It's almost like people are just people, and regardless of their colour or religion the vast majority just want to get on with their lives. The majority of these people are no more terrorists than the majority of Americans are Jeffrey Dahmer.

Politicians gain from dividing us. If 'we all' realised this the world would be a much safer, better place.

u/VCTRYDTX 14h ago

It sucks because by the time everyone realizes this it's usually too late. Majority of people running the world today and controlling everything are simply not good people. If everyone came together and started focusing on the same issues they'll all be fucked. This is why they spend billions on controlling narratives or instigating things that result in escalations, distractions, misinformation and hate.

Dividing the people is the oldest page out of the capitalist playbook

u/sapntaps 10h ago

Dividing the people is the oldest play of any monarchy or government……….. what???

When the king and queen look over the castle walls and the people are pointing fingers at each other, they sleep in peace at night.

53

u/Im_Just_A_Tourist 13h ago

It has nothing to do with capitalism and everything to do with control of the masses.

49

u/GameOfTroglodytes 12h ago

It's not born from capitalism, but it is intrinsic to capitalism. Capitalists sow this kind of division to undercut unionization and worker solidarity which allows the capitalist to further exploit the worker and maximize their own returns. We've seen this in action for over a century in just America. Capitalism, considering wealth is a facet of power, uses the same divide and conquer approach that power-seeking organizations and individuals use because it's all ultimately down to accumulating power. You're right, this predates capitalism because it is just power seeking, and you're wrong since capitalism is an economic system that is inherently power seeking. Literally grow or die.

If you need to be reminded of what capitalism is, it's defining difference from socialism is the private ownership of enterprises wherein individuals can own them whereas socialism requires that the workers are the owners of the enterprise. A market-based economy filled with employee directed enterprises wouldn't look too different from ours today except that it won't be creating and propping up a global cabal of child rapists, speed running the enshitification of all your possessions, or embedding glass in your food to make a couple extra bucks. Before you consider a retort about innovation or choice, just know that the backbone of modern technology is socialist; these projects and products either collectively funded through institutions or by freely associating developers giving their free labor have produced some of the most important enabling technologies for our modern life and economy, all freely shared. Free open source software, a trove of innovation and choices, is a socialist project. We've been fed lies all our lives that dividing our resources and intellect is to the benefit of an elite class is some how a more effective form of organizing our economy than just freely collaborating and sharing.

u/gogeri2632 2h ago

In Cambodia they literally went around killing people just for wearing glasses because those people were "educated and therefore an enemy of the people"

Seriously bud, read a history book or something.

11

u/Elegant_Hold_3020 12h ago

I'm not sure it's only a capitalism issue, I can argue propaganda and spread of hatred is present in communist countries as well 🤔

u/AstronomerJealous467 7h ago

That’s also… literally what they said in their comment…

u/GameOfTroglodytes 11h ago edited 11h ago

Hey man, if you could read you would understand I explicitly said it wasn't just a capitalism problem. You might also know that "communist" countries do in fact produce propaganda like all governing institutions as propaganda literally means ideological materials, and lastly you might also know that there are no communist countries now or ever since communism is defined as a stateless society. You can't have a stateless nation, but you can have ideological parties in states that purport to be seeking a communist society but that doesn't make a country communist.

Edit: I'm not a fan of Communists in the Marxist-Leninist camp or any of its derivatives, but words and ideas have meanings for a reason. It's also not a binary choice between capitalism and communism as I laid out a specific model for a market socialist economy, but again you would have had to read my post to get that so...... 🤷‍♂️

I would say both as Capitilism can and does create division and hate

16

u/Im_Just_A_Tourist 13h ago

Yes but it predates capitalism as a system by thousands of years. That desire to control for one's own greed is really the main driver regardless of the system it looks to take advantage of.

Not really, the Soviets also used propaganda to try and divide the world. Let alone how the world worked before capitalism……

Capitalism, all though the current version has some flaws, has nothing to do with this.

u/gogeri2632 2h ago

It literally has nothing to do with capitalism.

Plus it was always communism that divided people into "the working class" and "the ownership class" in order to justify killing millions of people.

I am starting to realise that people value wrong things when it comes to leaders. We value charismatic leader who can speak (even thought they might be spouting complete bullshit) than a leader who is more knowledgeable and has good policies that actually will make the changes we want. We see that everywhere, not just in politics. The loudest most “charismatic” people like Trump win over less charismatic but vastly more knowledgeable people. It’s sad but true.

2

u/Extra_Law6315 12h ago

Can’t wait for our AI overlords to get intelligent enough to realize this and go “…wait”

u/KuroOni 7h ago

You have to be smart and cunning to be a successful politician, smart people don't do politics, so we are left with idiots and criminals, usually with a silver tongue at the top.

As an American, I love people. And alot of us are just like me.

63

u/deadgvrlinthepool 14h ago

If I have one message to give to the secular American people, it’s that the world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same.

The division already exists, politicians just weaponize it.

17

u/SavingsPreference362 15h ago

If only people could look beyond themselves ❤️

13

u/Smokey_02 15h ago

Political positions are by their very nature magnets for people who want power. People who want power are very rarely people who should be trusted with it. Wanting power means wanting to use that power, and who do you think they're going to use that power for? Themselves. Government is a system with a perverse incentive at its core.

This is my long way of saying that people can look beyond themselves, but prestigious government positions are almost never filled by those who can. Sometimes you get a radical thinker who actually does care about people and that's why they got into politics, but from what I've seen most aren't that.

I love this comment because it's so true. We are so divided on religion, politics, etc. America was supposed to be the where each of us are accepted for who we are despite what we are

u/PurpleMTL 7h ago

People are people. The ones that aren't people want to keep us separated and hating each other. That's how they keep their power. Divide and conquer.

The truth is that without the people there would be no power to conquer. Imagine if everyone decided that they no longer want to take part in society tomorrow. The rich powerful people would become nothing at all. Just another bare bum in the shower. As they should be. Because they are.

5

u/KardelSharpeyes 13h ago

I didn't see many Americans crying or supporting Iranians when that school was bombed earlier this year. Iranians have a lot more to lose than Americans when it comes to protesting or public displays.

3

u/Logical_Worry3993 12h ago

What is this supposed to mean though? Who is 'dividing' and trying to call Iranian people terrorists? The regime is terrorist for sure, the Iranians will tell you that

u/FriedEldenRings 43m ago

Republicans have always profited off of turning us hateful toward others. War is the goal, 9/11 was a great excuse. I don't even know what the excuse was this time, I guess trump didn't like the nuclear deal that was already made with Iran?

u/4everadumdum 8h ago

And the then president of US called Iran an Axis of Evil even though Iran helped them with their war against Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan while showering Saudis with weapons, despite Al-Qaeda being the result of Saudi funded Wahabi schools throughoit the world. Not just 9-11 but all the other major terrorist ic attacks In Europe.

I always wonder how things would have been different if pigs that we call politicians did the right thing and not the thing that makes them most amount of money.

They just kept pushing and pushing the Mullah pigs in Iran into a corner and here we are 25 years later. We are all suffering. Everyone between USA and Iran.

Fuck them all. Fuck Putin, Fuck Trump, Fuck Xi and Fuck Khamenei (Sr and Jr).

Watching this depresses me because we had an opportunity to make things so much better and we squandered it. And that’s putting it lightly. It will take decades to get back to baseline after what Trump has done.

44

u/myflesh 12h ago

And baseline was far from good to begin  with.

u/totalkpolitics 11h ago

With Iran we actually had a pretty good baseline because of Obama's JCPOA. That deal was working and could have lead to further peace if not for Trump.

u/myflesh 9h ago

Do  not forget he had to do it in secret because  rest of the democratic leadership would of tanked it, and that Biden or any other Democratic Leadership in power did not try and fix it, and Harris randomly said while running for president that Iran is the biggest threat to the world during her DNC speech (in the middle of literally Russia invading an allied nation and active genocide.)

Yes, Trump made it worse, but we can not argue for certain we would be in something similar now or eventually.

My point was not that it is not worse. My point is the ubderline larger issues would still be present. And that we should not dream of going back to Biden or Obama world. If we must do so much work we should work to a true solution. And a truly good world.

Edit: I want to make sure it is clear I agree Obama's peace deal with Iran was amazing, and even me an anti-obama person at the time was shocked and supported. Sadly it is a system at play and not individuals. And the systems are the baseline and it is gross.

u/squngy 5h ago

and that Biden or any other Democratic Leadership in power did not try and fix it

I mean, how could they fix it?
US broke the deal, Iran wasn't going to trust a new deal would not be broken just as easily. And in hind sight, we know that it would have been.

You need Iran to trust the deal will be kept, or they have no reason to keep it on their end.

A lot of the damage Trump is doing is not fixable.

Nobody knows what lunatic Americans might elect next, and nobody in power seems like they want to fix the problems with the electoral college or gerrymandering.

Hell yeah. Iran also attempted to help us hunt Al Qaeda down, regularly detaining suspects for the US in an effort to normalize things with the west. Of course after a while we kind of gave them the finger. Very depraved government here in the US

u/Lftwff 7h ago

Early on the US coordinated military operations with the Iranians in the border region with Afghanistan, there were serious attempts to normalize realtions and then bush needed a third country for his axis of evil speech and they threw Iran in with Iraq and north Korea

u/VulcanHullo 4h ago

It's a forgotten fact that the Muslim world as a rule stood with America post-9/11. There was even significant support for the invasion of Afghanistan because even conservative voices could respect "they harmed you and you went to get them and those that hid them".

The real issue emerged in 2003 with the Iraq War. That was readily pitched as a sign that the US was waging a war against Islam itself, radicalising support for the hardliners. It also screwed Afghanistan because troop numbers dropped and suddenly neighbouring states were more willing to allow people through. The Taliban went from a badly depleted force to one able to renew itself and dig in.

There's arguments that Bush did more to further Bin Laden's plans than 9/11 itself, and cases like the Iraq War and how it turned the Muslim world do make that argument harder to refute.

guess their views have shifted... never forget the 120 children killed by the us in the first week..

u/stackens 16h ago

No they were doing the “death to America” chants back then too, but they famously suspended them for a time following 9/11. Kind of shows their hearts weren’t really in it

I absolutely hate how the cultural context is lost when it is literally translated. In Hindi we use “murdabad” which would literally mean “death to”. And we use it during every protest, “Government murdabad” would literally translate to “death to the government “. But the sentiment is to condemn, not call for actual death. When you say “Fuck Trump” it would be literally translated to “ you want to have sex with trump”, but the actual sentiment was to condemn him. Context gets lost in translation.

I mean if some country kept fucking bombing you and replacing your democratically elected leaders with dictators you'd hate them too

Or maybe the acts of a few zealots don’t really reflect the actual will of the people? Like how most of the citizens of the US have no desire to be bombing people anywhere but our govt keeps finding reasons to. Weird.

u/212312383 15h ago

even more than that, after 9/11 iranian leadership was thinking of allying with the US to fight sunni terrorists. In fact, Soleimani, the general that trum killed, actually invaded afganistan to secure airstrips for Us planes to be able to land on. The Taliban hated Iran too so Iran saw a chance to take out a common enemy.

The alliance informally ended with Bush's axis of evil speech where he identified Iran as a member.

That's just... false? People in Iran don't care about "death to America" they chant deat h to the Islamic Republic. The regime supporters however, yeh they do, I wouldn't bet that any of them were in that crowd

The president of Iran offered condolences even  https://edition.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/meast/11/12/khatami.interview.cnna/

And a few months later at the next state of the union Bush labeled then as part of the "new axis of evil" https://www.armscontrol.org/act/2002-03/press-releases/bush-labels-north-korea-iran-iraq-axis-evil

Well seeing how the second intifada was raging around the same time with Israel launching military operations as well as settler attacks with US weaponry/support It would not have been a surprise.

At the same time Palestinian reactions varied considerably. Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat publicly condemned the attacks, offered condolences to Americans, and Palestinian groups also held a candlelight vigil outside the U.S. Consulate in East Jerusalem. CNN’s reporting that day explicitly described the celebrations as “sporadic incidents” while noting the Palestinian leadership’s condemnation.

The New Yorker, for example, reported celebrations while simultaneously noting that most people it encountered expressed horror and sympathy.

How many other places on Earth had "sporadic incidents" of celebration on September 11th, though? It's commendable that a good number of Palestinians showed solidarity with Americans that day, but any amount of people celebrating acts of religiously-motivated terrorism is cause for concern.

As for Arafat, his condolences come off as hollow after he walked away from the negotiation table at Camp David in 2000, where he could have legitimately started the new millennium with the creation of a sovreign Palestinian state and instead launched the Second Intifada while still pretending to be a partner for peace.

Iran really is special, the peoples of surrounding Arab nations were generally more jubilant

u/Ahmari90 12h ago

One of the few places left in the Middle East/Western Asia not Arabized after the Islamic conquest of 600CE.

Persian identity and culture predates Islam by a millennium.

Like most places. The people are good. It's the government that is the problem.

6

u/Procedure_Gullible 12h ago

as much as the governement sucks, its important to note that the Iranian governement and people had nothing to do with 9/11.

u/cognitive_dissent 10h ago

should also be stated that the west, US included, always snipped all iranian attempts to have legitimate elected governments over the years because $$$

Iran and US could have been natural allies - Al Qaeda hated Shia Iran too. But the whole “taking dozens of US hostages and backing terror groups that killed Americans” thing really soured relations.

2

u/Logical_Worry3993 12h ago

You won't believe this... they used to be allies

u/LateralEntry 11h ago

Under the Shah. Totally different than the Islamic Republic. It’s like saying US and Japan used to be enemies

u/BulbusDumbledork 8h ago

the u.s. and iran were allies after 9/11 too. iranian government condemned the attacks. qassem soleimani, the same one, worked directly with the u.s. to fight al qaeda.

I remember watching so many people around the world mourning with us. It was amazing to see such an outpouring of love from so many. It really impressed me what the USA meant to so many people. A lot of that has been burned down now

u/PsychologicalCash203 12h ago

Saw a similar video and it showed also Palestine's reaction

u/StrangePenalty6676 8h ago

Let's be honest: Yasser fucking Arafat donated blood.

u/PasicT 8h ago

Impossible, we were always told that muslims celebrated the attacks worldwide and insulted if we ever claimed otherwise.

You know Bin Laden was Saudi, right? That's not the same as Iranian. WTF people...

19

u/magotartufo 15h ago

Nowhere did OP say that.

I think this post is a response to the comments of Pete Hegseth, who said that Iranians "cheered on 9/11". People know he was saudi (at least I hope so).

u/SprungusDinkle 15h ago

Why do you think that's relevant, or a thing that people are not aware of?

3

u/AgreedSmalls 14h ago

Yeah and? Back in the 2000’s, a lot of people didn’t care. Hell, you have some people today that still don’t care and group them all together. OP did not do that.
