underrated comment here

u/TropicalLoneWolf 15m ago

I can't believe I had to scroll for the obligatory comment mentioning a shiny.

u/Im_Lead_Farmer 12h ago

This image is photoshoped, the origenal image is light orange color not neon vibrant color like this one

45

u/Syssareth 12h ago

The one in this post is Photoshopped, but the real thing is still pretty bright.

u/Im_Lead_Farmer 11h ago edited 11h ago

The one I saw is the first image of this article and it's the image in the circle of this post, but yes the other images do look more brighter orange

Why does the post title sound like a scammer

116

u/ReadditMan 12h ago edited 12h ago

The title makes it sound like this is a new species that was recently discovered. It's really just a nurse shark with xanthism, a genetic condition that increases the production of yellow and orange pigmentation.

Xanthism has been observed in fish before but this is the first documented case of a shark with the condition. Most likely it's not the first shark to ever have xanthism, it's just that the odds of surviving to adulthood are extremely low because sharks rely on camouflage to hunt.

u/JeffreyNasty24 5h ago

This, and too much Iron-Bru

u/BarrySwami 12h ago

Coz no links to the actual news, just a Pic with text on it. That is the seal of legitimacy on reddit apparently

u/Creepy-Ant373 11h ago

Cause it's a bot posting the same thing a bit did last week

4

u/BA_Bones_33 12h ago

Cuz it’s written like a Yoda AI model shit itself. The comma, the disjointed subject-action, 1st vs. first… the whole thing reeks

u/12_leon_12 9h ago

It reads like a tabloid

u/HaloFrontier 3h ago

7

u/flagsarecoolorsmth 12h ago

that is no way to address the president

7

u/reticulatedtampon 12h ago

Why is this making the rounds as though it just happened? The shark was discovered in August 2024

3

u/Wow-Think5760 12h ago

nemo reborn

4

u/AlwaysSqualid 12h ago

Pretty wild looking shark. I wonder if the orange color is a genetic thing or some kind of environmental effect. Either way, definitely not something you see every day

5

u/idkwtftokeepherelmao 12h ago

I really hope its not an oil spill.

2

u/AlwaysSqualid 12h ago

Yeah, hopefully not. It would be interesting to know if anyone has actually confirmed what’s causing the orange color

2

u/Clembert-Hamlamp 12h ago

All that water is making him rusty

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Syssareth 12h ago

Xanthism. It's like how melanism makes animals black or very dark, just with yellow pigments instead.

u/AlwaysSqualid 10h ago

Yeah, that actually makes a lot more sense. I didn’t even know there was a name for that

10

u/Luchador_En_Fuego 12h ago

🎶 Orange Shark do do do doo 🎶

u/BA_Bones_33 11h ago

The remix is gonna be lit

u/No_Stable_110 5h ago

It’s a shiny.

3

u/ResponsibilityFar827 12h ago

"Researchers said the shark most likely had two genetic disorders—albinism and xanthism. Albinism accounts for the white eyes. Xanthism accounts for the skin color—it boosts the level of yellow pigments."

u/RJEM96 11h ago

It is wild how often nature throws up something completely unexpected like that, it just makes you realize how much we still do not know about the deep ocean.
