Its only modern technology that stops working after it gets old

u/kitycat22 2h ago

Right? My gameboy mini went through the washer like 7 times before it died

Had a gameboy SP that disappeared during fall. When the snow smelted in spring I found it again and it worked perfectly.

Not sure if this is the case for GBA games, but original Gameboy games are often in danger of having their cartridge batteries permanently die these days.

Is it a GBA SP 101?

u/Kongopop 4h ago

That definitely is

u/mutanthands 2h ago

Screen looks crisp 👌🏻

Thank you. GBA SP

That’s something else that you recognize variants.

Real question is - was it charged when you found it?

u/Tnel1027 4h ago

I didn’t charge it at all!!! Picked it up and turned it on. Absolutely bonkers

Dude no joke, I had the same experience. I found mine after like 10 years and it started right up. I had eventually moved. Years later, I went to check on if it still started but could find it. I came to the conclusion that, one of the people who helped me moved likely stole it, so I’ll never know if it would have kept the charge :(

u/pedrofg 3h ago

Impossible

u/Pure1nsanity 5h ago

Mine had charge when I found it a few months ago. Charge does not last long though.

Nintendo used to have a huge supply of a virtually indestructible material called Nintendium. Everything they made was military grade plastic that could survive a nuclear blast better than a cockroach. Now a days the supply is thin.

u/SSpectre86 11m ago

The Gulf War Gameboy is my favourite example of this. Literally survived a bomb blast.

Nice! My mum still plays Dr Mario to this day,30+ years later.

u/pinehapple 1h ago

Mine too! There's a group of moms out there holding on to dear life with dr mario

Older Nintendo hardware is Nokia ohone levels of sturdy. Can't count the amount of times I accidentally pulled my N64 off of it's perch and onto the floor and it was always perfectly fine.

u/simplycantdeal 3h ago

My favorite console of all time.

u/VapidRapidRabbit 3h ago

I still have my red one. And my Sony PSP as well.

u/Responsible_Earth393 2h ago

The psp was just a device from god that thing was amazing back then sadly mine died in 2013 never bought one again after that

u/Staff_Senyou 3h ago

Why wouldn't it? It's from the era when tech was built to last

u/Orzahn 3h ago

Og Nintendo could give Nokia a run for it's money.

u/Nyanzerfaust 2h ago

My classic 1990 Game Boy still works perfectly. 36 years have passed already? Jesuschrist...

u/rmorrin 2h ago

That's a Gameboy advance SP OK. I also recently got mine and it works

u/8eer8aron 1h ago

u/iLLy_RiLLy 6h ago

u/Tnel1027 4h ago

Never throwing this bad boy away!

u/tablawi96 4h ago

The demand for Gameboy begins

u/spaceraingame 3h ago

I won mine in a raffle at my elementary school fun fair back in ‘03. It was cobalt blue. Wish I still had it :(

u/Smooth-Quantity-7024 3h ago

My GBA SP and original DS has crazy battery life. I'd leave them in a drawer for months and months and they'd still have a decent charge when I switched them on. No idea what the Switch is like.

u/Puckwallow 3h ago

Fucking Pokémon Pinball

u/Errkin 2h ago

hearing that little b-ling! is like instant therapy

u/Arn777333 2h ago

That's a flex

u/Mechtroop 2h ago

I have the same color! I have a slick leather case/pouch on it too. It got me through my deployment back in 2004 (22 yrs!). Played The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past on it among others.

u/CustardCarpet 1h ago

Ny friend's dog ate mine

u/Bigworm666999 1h ago

My kid plays mine. It is easily 10 years older than she is.

u/PerhapsAnEmoINTJ 1h ago

I had one exactly like this! Metroid: Zero Mission, Bomberman Tournament... good times.

u/frostedflakesblue 1h ago

How does one lose such a relic for 18 years?

u/Deltajer 14m ago

Dibs

u/spyker54 6m ago

They definitely don't build them like they used to

u/idontwanttofthisup 5h ago

Check the battery before it explodes

u/WakaWaka_ 5h ago

I have one too, no spicy pillow. Same with my DS's, those batteries just refuse to die

u/confidential613 4h ago

My 3DS is still alive here, but I've noticed that the battery life has decreased a bit.

u/scr0tal 5h ago
