Europeans aren’t nearly as obsessed with 11/09 as folks in the USA.
Interesting as fuck? More like not fucking interesting, at least to the folks this is marketed to.
•
u/sleeper_shark 3h ago
Idk about you, but while we're not "obsessed" about it here in France, it's still an important part of our memory
•
u/frokoopa 2h ago
Idk how old you are, but if it weren't for Reddit americans' posts coming up yesterday I would have gone the entire day without noticing it was 9/11. Sure the airline flyer is a bit weird design-wise, but I'm not sure I would have linked it to 9/11 by myself. Made a joke to a friend like "it looks like it's gonna crash on the Eiffel Tower lol", but that's all. So yeah, it certainly had some impact here but I wouldn't say it's an "important memory" for french people either
•
u/sleeper_shark 2h ago
I wouldn't have noticed it either yesterday, but I certainly wouldn't say it's "not fucking interesting." It was a watershed moment in modern world history, especially western history.
It marked the end of the optimism of the 90s.
•
u/SteamTrout 1h ago
Maybe for select people in select countries, sure. Most of the world just saw it as another world news event.
•
u/harpers25 1h ago
Can you name anything, ever, that was important to every single person in every country?
•
•
u/signmeupdude 1h ago
I feel like you are trying way too hard to prove that the US isnt the center of the world, which it isnt, but its to the point where you just seem sort of ignorant to the global effect 9/11 had.
•
u/Deez_Nuts_Ha_Goteeem 30m ago
I can see that it is an important event, and also how Americans always have to be the centre of attention.
•
u/Holderlin70 1h ago
You must be young. Im not american but it was absolutely not just another world news event. Im not a fan of america but we dont need to start lying
•
u/This_Robot 56m ago
World news event? 9/11 is what got us into the mess that is GWOT. So pretty sure it wasn't just another "World News Event".
•
u/sleeper_shark 15m ago
Idk where you're from, maybe Sentinel Island if it didn't affect you.
9/11 was the catalyst for the global war on terror, was the only time article 5 of NATO was invoked which pulled the entire west into a long war that destabilised the Middle East - and impacted the way Islam was seen on a global scale.
It started the US on a downward spiral to where they are today, which effectively opened the door to China's ability to rival US hegemony.
It's an event of significance similar to the fall of the Berlin Wall but obviously where the wall falling brought optimism, the WTC falling was the harbinger of a darker age.

...if it weren't for Reddit americans' posts coming up yesterday I would have gone the entire day without noticing it was 9/11.
I'm an American, and me too. Like, I remember being a live witness of 9/11, watching it on TV as it happened, but it's also not something I build my life around.
But as long as I know in general that someone ran a plane into a skyscraper once to kill people for political points, then when I see a picture of a plane flying low and pointed at a tower, I can connect those things together without having to feel, like, personally connected to this specific skyscraper.
It's not really about identity, it's just about seeing what you're looking at.

unfortunately Reddit has a heavy US userbase, so it perpetuates the whole 'the world revolves around us'.

u/clueless_mommy 3h ago
You know, we're not "obsessed" with 9/11, but we still know what happened and that ad really made take a sharp breath.
It's inconsiderate and... Just nope
•
u/srednax 3h ago
I’m guessing you’re not flying from Pakistan to Paris any time soon then?
•
u/clueless_mommy 3h ago
I think I'd have a hard time getting to Pakistan in the first place. But might take the train to Paris, it's lovely
•
•
u/srednax 3h ago
The rest of France is even nicer!
•
u/Wanderhoden 2h ago
I agree, as I hang out in Chamonix/Sallanches area drinking in the beauty of Mont Blanc. French ppl here are so nice!
•
•
u/pinniped90 3h ago
I don't think this has anything to do with "obsession", but you'd think anyone in the advertising industry with an airline client would be perhaps a little bit aware of it.

I was a bit pissed off back then because the BBC shortened the regional news so there was more main news but I wanted regional

the said islamist groups are historically created and supported by US. and this groups has killed way more Muslims than anyone else.

Quite a few Europeans died in 9/11, including 4 people from France. It was horrific to vitness and had horrifying conseqences.

Feels like plane flying and landmark are 101 for airline posters though
It's not like this poster is out of left field weird, it's not not creative
•
u/Mr_Coco1234 3h ago
Ad in 2024 posted today. Not really interesting.
•
u/Cronos993 2h ago
It's for astroturfing. Reddit has mostly just become a propaganda platform these days

& the fact that Osama Bin Laden, the man behind it was found in Pakistan makes it even more... dark humour hilarious

A plane didn't hit the Effiel Tower so what's the issue?
•
u/SaintUlvemann 3h ago
Are you asking why threatening images can be an issue even if they are an accident and don't actually happen?
•
u/kriszti_a_cica 1h ago
Are you threatened by this picture?
•
u/SaintUlvemann 1h ago
No, and why would I be? The image is not about me, the image is instead about several entities that exist in an international context.
As an internationally-known landmark that symbolizes the French state, the Eiffel Tower is routinely threatened by terrorists, and there was also a famous plane-bomber who lived in Pakistan for many decades.
And even the image details seem to fit; this plane is clearly depicted flying weirdly close to the ground, planes don't usually fly that low, and if a plane really was flying that low, it might hit the Eiffel Tower.
So can you see how the odd visuals in the image have a natural tendency to combine with the politicized nature of the Eiffel Tower, to bring the idea of a terrorist threat to mind, regardless of whether the viewers are subtle enough to understand the imagery as accidental?

What I find interesting as duck here is that you can go from South Asia to Western Europe in a direct fight now when it used to take months 250 years ago.

Brothers I am a Pakistani. When this image surfaced on the web we Pakistanis shared lots of laughters, we are not terrorists we laughed alot at this. On a serious note, Pakistan is a victim of terrorism and Pakistanis are peace loving people come to Pakistan and see for yourself.
I read a quote today, dont remember that in full but it said something like "the cure for racism is travelling and the cure for fascism is reading"
Long live peace, come to Lahore have some food then tell for yourself. Peace🕊

•
u/bhanu00070 1h ago
No, let me guess…you Pakistani? Cause I don’t have to be Indian to call Pakistan a terrorist nation, everyone knows it
•
•
u/Boromir_Has_TheRing 3h ago
Considering it is Pakistan, maybe this was exactly what they meant.
•
u/DataDrifter-_ 1h ago
Genuine question, was Pakistan or any Pakistani citizen involved in 9/11?
"Considering it is Pakistan..."
So how does that make sense here, given there's no historical involvement
•
u/Warlord53104 1h ago
Oh my apologies, but will you please remind me where Bin Laden was found in the end?

Considering he was found in a neighbouring country is a not an odd scenario , idk why people have their tits in the bag with him being found in PK.The point still stands no one of Pakistani heritage was involved in the actual attack.
And who gives a shit , the US retaliation caused much more destruction and death than 9/11 ever did and nobody bats an eye on their war crimes
•
u/thenoteskeeper_16 2h ago
Pakistan — let the world live peacefully for a while. Show some mercy.
•
u/DataDrifter-_ 1h ago
I'd rather we burn it to the ground with you as well, lol. Jk, I'm just raging.

Rule 1 - All content must show something that is objectively interesting as fuck. Just because you find something IAF doesn't mean anyone else will. It's impossible to define everything that could be considered IAF, but for a general idea browse the top posts of all time from this subreddit.
Posts:
must be interesting as fuck
can't be interesting just because of text
must go beyond something just being old
can't be art that you made
