3 months later its 5.99$ on Steam

25

u/ForestRivers 8h ago

Its not coming to PC though (still isnt worth the $70).

43

u/hates_stupid_people 7h ago

Oh right, Sony is back in its "They'll by a console to play these games!!" phase again. I wonder how long it lasts this time.

11

u/goldengamer2345 4h ago

They want to monopolise as much as they can and it's blowing up in their face

4

u/Spider-Zayd 3h ago

Happy cake day !

Bro I like wolverine, but I legit hope this flop? will make studios wanna focus on Cyclops for a change! Or at least some other X-men. Give wolverine a break, he's been at it for decades

85

u/Ryachaz 11h ago

Yeah man, a failure with the most popular Xmen IP will surely get studios jumping at the chance to make a game with other Xmen characters.

46

u/Puzzleheaded_Ebb9874 10h ago

You do realise this flopping would mean less incentive for studio heads to greenlight more X-Men games

If this was a success, there was an X-Men game planned next in the same universe

9

u/Ordenvulpez 10h ago

This is Reddit they don’t know devs don’t green light game. they just thank they make them for hell of it don’t realize politics behind any business like gaming.

You want the same team to make cyclop game?

→ More replies (6)

7

u/Hamilton-Beckett 10h ago

Cyclops?! He’s a one trick pony.

6

u/Diligent-Neck6594 10h ago

It's not gonna FLOP but this is also a Playstation exclusive that Sony has been pushing as a reason to buy a Playstation

It being so horrible is going to hurt their PR that's already in the gutter rn

3

u/Grand_Bother5062 9h ago

They focused on cyclops in the 70’s and went bankrupt. X-men didn’t become popular until they stopped focusing on him. Also faceless character never translate well to movie because actors need to show their eyes for the full range of emotion, which is why Spiderman is always taking his mask off. But cyclops has to wear sunglasses or a visor at all times meaning he will never be as popular in film either.

u/Lily_Queen 11h ago

I do believe at this point he's been at it for centuries 😁

If you want this to flop, then you don't like Wolverine.

Look, preordering made some sense 20 years ago when you had to worry about stores literally running out of copies of the game. Plus, places like GameStop let you reserve a preorder with like 5 bucks and you could slowly pay the full price over months.

Neither of those apply to modern games bought through online stores. There is no reason to preorder games nowadays.

861

u/TheDominator09 13h ago

Literally the only thing they give you is a skin pack or two and that's it.

334

u/Depressed_Cat6 13h ago

Usually not worth it when you have a gajillion more skins in the game

196

u/Satyr121 13h ago

And plus half the time the pre order bonuses get released in another edition of the game later

154

u/ThirtyThree111 13h ago

yeah, better to wait a year or two for some "game of the year edition" or some shit, then wait another couple years for that to go on sale on steam

patient gamers rise

49

u/ReddBroccoli 12h ago

That's what I do.

Really looking forward to checking out a new game this weekend called Skyram or Shyrim, something like that. I saw it had a couple positive reviews.

24

u/AtmosphereSuitable31 11h ago

Yeah for real just this year I got to buy some awesome new games. Red head temptation or something like that and a decipher funk or punk or something anyway great games this year.

9

u/BonkerBleedy 11h ago

I legitimately haven't bought Skyrim yet. Is it stable enough?

29

u/ReddBroccoli 11h ago

It's a Bethesda game my friend. There are just some things you'll never wait long enough for

And sometimes they're just plain dumb! I was just thinking about how Fable 2 had a Halo crossover where you could wear a medieval version of Spartan armor. It was just so out of place and broke immersion.

Edit: wow, I honestly didn't think this was controversial lol. TIL

6

u/cortez_brosefski 12h ago

I'm surprised at the down votes as well lol. I agree with you, that was stupid and broke immersion. A lot of these pre order bonuses are either immersion breaking or overpowered and ruin the balance in the early game

3

u/Cosmic_Quasar 12h ago

Yeah, these days I just save the OP stuff until my second run after doing just a base game run, as the design intended. But I don't replay many games these days lol.

3

u/cortez_brosefski 12h ago

That's a good philosophy, but sometimes it doesn't even make it clear what the OP stuff is. I don't always want to study all the items in the game, I just wanna play it. But also yeah, a lot of games aren't really made to be replayed now either. It's either some live service thing or they put little to no effort into NG+ or second playthroughs

→ More replies (1)

11

u/cortez_brosefski 13h ago

It's ridiculous, and it's just shit they should include in the base game anyway.

11

u/Jaz1140 7h ago

Don't forget 5 days early access to the broken version of the game

You were cooked if you didn't pre order back then. I remember when Halo 2 came out I had to wait about a month for my pre order to come in. One set of cousins got it first and we were at their house almost daily till the whole family had copies.

4

u/cortez_brosefski 12h ago

Yeah, it was pretty necessary at that time. I remember having to wait like 3 months to finally find a copy of MW2. But times are a lot different now

Yeah, I used to have really bad Internet so I can see that point. But it's still just such a risk. There's no such thing as a sure thing good game nowadays. With games costing upwards of $100, it's too big of a risk to take without seeing real, raw, unedited and uncurated gameplay

3

u/handbanana42 8h ago

Preloading a game shouldn't require preordering anyways.

It is digital.

They lose nothing if you predownload but can't play because you don't have a license, besides a few cents of bandwidth.

If anything, that predownload might incentivize you to buy it on release.

11

u/kneadthedough 12h ago

Australian here. Theres a somewhat (global context) niche sport called Aussie rules footy (afl).

An Indy studio developed a game called pro jank footy which is like a mix of afl and Mario cart.

I preordered it because I thought it sounded like a fun concept and wanted to help the studio out with cashflow/developing the game.

I think that is a circumstance when preordering a digital product makes sense. But it’s more like a “kickstarter” project than what preordering was 20 years ago or whatever.

2

u/cortez_brosefski 12h ago

Good point mate, I didn't really consider that. In that case it does absolutely make sense, but I'm sure you're aware of the risks and are willing to accept them.

That honestly sounds like a fun game. What's it called, did it come out? As an American football fan, I love Aussie punters

2

u/Glowingtomato 12h ago

Yeah I've preordered some more niche games like Farming Simulator and Snowrunner to show support and so they keep making more games.

I don't bother for more major games

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Lowkey_Arki 10h ago

and modern games normally come out with bugs, and the prices gets lowered or gets a sale, its seriously better to just wait

2

u/cortez_brosefski 10h ago

Always. People just can't comprehend delayed gratification anymore

6

u/LionHeartedLXVI This flair doesn't exist 12h ago

Personally, I like my bills paid off early (I’m years ahead on my mortgages), so it can make sense for me, although I’ve only preordered one game in the last 8 years.

4

u/cortez_brosefski 12h ago

That's awesome dude. If you're that fiscally literate and careful, then do whatever you want. But there's a lot of people that are choosing between these $70 games and shit like oil changes. It sucks for them to make that sacrifice and then the game turns out to be bad

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Vox_SFX 12h ago

It's the tradition and name of it at this point. That's why they always have to add in a bunch of shit that doesn't matter or that you'd have to grind a shit ton for in order to get normally.

The fact is people have gotten illiterate across the board, and that includes media literacy like understanding what a pre-order actually is nowadays.

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Negative_Bar_9734 3h ago

People love calling things scams until they encounter an actual scam, then its all "woohoo, pre-orders were just announced! Got my copy!"

2

u/adult_on_paper 12h ago

Correct. Pre ordering is why we get broken, unfinished games, and/or games that are just a skeleton with the meat ripped out and sold separately as DLC

1

u/Working-Contest-3730 12h ago

17

u/Rexusus 11h ago

If you pre-ordered, you can return it anytime before release, or within 14 days of purchase if that window is after release, so far as long as you didn’t download the game.

I know because I got a Pro for this and GTA VI, ended up refunding the preorder and gonna get Control Resonant on the 24th

3

u/handbanana42 7h ago

Hope everyone sees this. Not just for a specific game, but in general. At least it is a tiny capitulation to all this dumb pre-order nonsense. If the game is bad, refund it.

The amount of games that have reviewed poorly, I've ended up enjoying immensely, is a lot. I never trust reviews anymore, I watch spoiler free gameplay and decide for myself there.

Yeah this should be higher. Plus alot has nothing to do with the actual game I heard but more with Sony

6

u/Wrotas 4h ago

People really bring it on themselves. If the customers doesn’t respect themselves and their money, the companies never will.

16

u/Excellent-Gold1905 8h ago

It babies you. You let out the single most important and relevant point.

It has QTE that cannot be failed, that auto complete if you don't press any buttons. It has many segments of the game that are literally just "hold the stick forward". As if a giant glowing line telling you were to go (in a linear action game) wasn't enough, they also have waypoints showing up to highlight the giant glowing line. Thats even ignoring the more "subtle" stuff like yellow paint and the like.

So you have a "mature" rated game with blood, gore, and "mature themes" story wise. Yet its designed to be played by a handicapped toddler who has never played a video game. Not every game needs to be a Fromsoft "difficult" game, yet at the same time games need to provide SOME friction or just becomes "interactive media" and not a game and Wolverine has clearly drifted too far away from being a "game".

5

u/clitmasher69 7h ago

I hate when i can't tell if i'm still in the tutorial phase or if the game is gonna railroad me all the way to the end. It's a huge pet peeve of mine in VR games too

2

u/GoatyButt 8h ago

Thank you. I was listening to a podcast (snark tank) where one of the hosts has another playstation oriented podcast, and he gets early press copies of some games, and he listed a few shitty issues with the game. In qtes if you even press the wrong button, it makes no difference. About halfway through the game it just becomes so boring and pointless that he just kinda dissociated and just finished the game out of obligation. Hitting enemies doesn't feel satisfying. It apparently felt like a game that "had a lot of problems" in development, and given the development time, didn't end up feeling like it had even been developed for that long. In the end he was like "oh my god. Is this game..... Bad.....?" He and his fellow podcast hosts had been so excited for this game for so long, hoping it would be like "x-men origins: wolverine" from a while ago. Turns out it's kind of a maybe play it once, underwhelming, don't bother ever replaying it kind of game. Typical. Figures. Sucks. But I mean that's games these days I guess. Dude said it "wasn't as bad as like a 5/10 or anything", but I think he was just trying to be nice. Sounds like a half shit game not worth the time.

Never preorder a game you don’t have enough information to make an opinion on

With that said, don’t be so quick to take every reviewer’s word on the quality of the game. Some ppl benefit from overly hating on games, some from dickriding them, and some are just incompetent. You gotta kinda look at all of them and determine if it’s still for you or not

u/TheIJDGuy Selling Stonks for CASH MONEY 13h ago

I've never preordered a thing in my life! I'm waiting patiently for GTA 6 to come out to then decide if I watch for it to go on sale

2

u/That-Spell-2543 12h ago

I’m going to wait until it goes on sale because I literally do not care

WHY ARE YOU PRE ORDERING ONLINE GAMES

WHY ARE YOU PRE ORDERING ONLINE GAMES

u/Waaytoomanytakenames 5h ago

Stanczyc would not preorder.

The dude in the picture was one of the smartest people at the time. Search for his name on google because his history is super interesting.

*Stańczyk

u/One-Cup-2002 12h ago

I don't care.

Wolverine is one of my favorite superheroes of all time. When I get the money, I'm going to buy the game, and I'll enjoy myself immensely.

2

u/Halonos 13h ago

ON a nut shell eh?

2

u/Nagesh_yelma 12h ago

I don't support preorders but why are you worried about people's opinion on the internet if you think you like the game?

2

u/joker_prince 12h ago

I fkin hate early reviews/ratings

2

u/SHAQBIR 12h ago

That is why, look at the trailer, buy it if you liked it. Play it and don't give a fuck what people say. Chances are even if its a bad game you would enjoy it more if you play it without knowing what people say. A 5/10 becomes a 6 or 7/10

u/jtroopa 12h ago

A long time ago, I preordered Duke Nukem Forever 😔

You probably had a yearning for the Insomniac Wolverine game.

2

u/HououinKakyouma 11h ago

Haha me when I took the day off work to play Fallout 76…what a piece of shit that was

2

u/RooMan7223 11h ago

It did look like a safe preorder though. Insomniac and Wolverine, what could go wrong? Turns out a lot

2

u/raddoubleoh 11h ago

I mean, you gotta admit a $300M budget $70 cost glorified arcade brawler is insane.

2

u/AlanTheSalad 9h ago

Such an accurate usage of Stanczyk 😂

2

u/Rekkleis_Hury 9h ago

Suddenly... Stańczyk

2

u/Legitimate_q 1h ago

Imagine having access to the internet, USING REDDIT, and still pre ordering. You really can lead a horse to water...

If you want to throw away your money ill drop my zelle in ur dms, i could use some lunch today.

u/BattleToaster68 42m ago

I learned my lesson with cyberpunk. I went from the person who preorders the biggest edition with all dlc to the person who'd rather wait 5 years for it to be on sale for 20 bucks

2

u/Yer_Dunn 39m ago

Good.

Bring back shame.

Stop being scammed into pre-ordering games.

2

u/kamel_k 15m ago

Stop preordering games

2

u/DhruvM 13m ago

Preordering games in 2026? YIKES. Must suck to not have a frontal cortex

4

u/Lunarath 11h ago

Stop letting other people influence your enjoyment of things you like. There are plenty of people who loved Wolverine, and it's completely okay to enjoy things even if most people don't like it.

I'd say all these people thrashing the game before it's even out and they've tried it themselves are real fucking weirdos. Reminds me of the GTA 6 drama, which is also fueled by some real freaks.

I'm not gonna play it regardless because it's a PS5 exclusive, but I've loved many games with bad public reception.

A lot of people in the comment section live in a cave it seems. Yes, pre ordering is still a thing, it didn’t end just because you stop.

Holy crap I didn’t know people hate pre ordering digital so much. I pre ordered digitally & I don’t feel like a clown. 😂😂I’m excited to play Wolverine!

2

u/Marcysdad 11h ago

I've enjoyed more 7s and 8s than you might believe

3

u/Comfortable_Horse277 9h ago

Dude....some of my favorite games are 7/10.

Like what you like.

4

u/dasha74 6h ago

Never pre order.

2

u/RainbowNugget24 Plays MineCraft and not FortNite 13h ago

The only reason i preordered wolverine, is because I didn't wanna pay $129aud for a standard copy, so i paid $99

4

u/thrownawaz092 10h ago

Imagine pre-ordering a digital game

2

u/mnttu 10h ago

Why would you preorder a digital game?
Its not like they are going to run out of

2

u/Maximum-Oven-7526 5h ago
  1. Stop preordering anything
  2. Stop paying $70 for games

2

u/BabyFaceKnees 4h ago

99% of games get cooked on socials because everyone hates everything nowadays

2

u/Ghost_Kamakazie 2h ago

Spiderman 2 was so bad it made me lose interest in anything insomniac makes

3

u/Yurei_UB 1h ago

Bro such a big flop. I had only gotten to where Harry showed Peter what happened to him. I was so done after a side mission had me go to a university and help some dude ask his boyfriend out to a dance. I was already having griefs with the game and tried to push through but that last straw broke the camel's back.

Id rather play Miles Morales again and save Spiderman the cat.

2

u/Ur_Girl_Suki 13h ago

welp, atleast you learned a valuable life lesson. Never pre-order a game.

1

u/SchmeckleHoarder 10h ago

Fuck you for pre-ordering. Tf you thinking? They were going to run out?
