Such a random but great friendship that made some great movie moments

Do you post as MagnoliaFan on moviepoopshoot.com?
Did you say "Fuck Jay and Silent Bob. Fuck them up their stupid asses!"?

u/NicklAAAAs 1d ago
The way he yells “YOU are the ones,” has stuck with me since I first saw this movie when I was like 12.
I leave off the ball lickers part and say “YOU are the ones who [insert bad thing they did]!” to my kids all the time.

Watching View Askewniverse for the first time some years ago as a 20 something, seeing how while a lots changed since the 90s, somehow a lot of the stupidest stuff never does change.
The ridiculousness of ice in hot coffee in Clerks tho. Wow Im amazed how that changed

Arguably my favorite line in any comedy movie.
Edit to clarify: it's the incredulous delivery that really puts it over the top for me, not specifically the writing.

People always talk about how great Heat is during those firefights, how authentic everything is. No one ever mentions brave Federal Wildlife Marshal Willenholly’s by the book handling of firearms in the final firefight.
25
u/Wakkichewy 1d ago
Will Ferrel ended up playing Marshal in Land of the Lost too
18
u/Black_Velvet_Band 1d ago
Sounds like maybe you knew this, but Will Ferrell’s character was named Federal Wildlife Marshall Willenholly because the three main characters in Land of the Lost are named Marshall, Will, and Holly.

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson 1d ago
I didnt know, what a weird joke to hide in there
Like the Lorenzo’s Oil joke in Paul. That one was a bit more obvious because how weird of a name Zorenzo Zoil is though

I have to say, the bully was actually amazing in this scene. I think he and will ferrell stole the movie honestly, but I couldn't explain why, I think it's just the absolute earnestness from both of them in the bits while everyone else is great in a more of a "wink and a nudge" kind of way

I AM THE C.L.I.T. COMMANDER! Remember that, commander of all C.L.I.T.s! When it comes down to business, this is what I do. I pinch it like this. OOH you little fuck. Then I rub my nose with it.

This movie will always hold a special place in my heart. One of the first rated R movies I watched as a kid. Didn't understand half of the jokes, but thought it was hilarious Jay said fuck a lot in the opening scene. I choose to ignore any criticisms of this movie and this movie will always be hilarious and endlessly rewatchable. 10 out of 10

I'll always love Kevin Smith and the Jay and Silent Bob stuff. My friend's parents took us to Jersey for the Quik Stop, the closed down RST video, the diner from Chasing Amy, and the Secret Stash comic book store.
Honestly a lot of my love of film is because of how good the dialog in Mallrats is (or was to me in high school).

I was just thinking about this scene at work today! Jay is all kinds of stupid but the man knows class solidarity.

Mallrats was like nothing I'd ever seen before. It was my first exposure to Kevin Smith films and it absolutely captivated me. I haven't enjoyed his more recent stuff, but Clerks through Clerks 2 is all aces as far as I'm concerned.

“Hey kids, it’s Mark Hamill!” It was a more spoiler free age and we did not know he was even in the movie. So pleasantly surprised.
7
u/MikeGalactic 1d ago
I find his massive hand hilarious.
8
u/evel333 1d ago
And so theatrically over-the-top evil. At the time, I didn’t remember seeing much Mark Hamill outside of his voice work and maybe Wing Commander, so watching him on screen was delightful.
6
u/casual_creator 1d ago
He plays a detective with a wonderfully terrible mustache in The Guyver!

He also played a farm boy on a desert planet who becomes a knight or something across three films, kinda obscure

One of the best comedies of the 2000s. Perfectly paced. Will Farrell is excellent, Sean William Scott, Carrie Fisher, GC - some of KS's best writing across the board. Just a blast. Genuinely, an excellent film.

There's a Papa John's in my town that has had "Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms" on their big sign out front for over a year now. I have no idea why it's up there, or whether the management at that location has even noticed or cares.

The scene with James Van Der Beek and Jason Biggs before the monkey beats them up is one of my favorites.
Love when Jay yells out to him: Holy shit! YOU’RE THE DAWSON!!

u/DrLaughNStalk 1d ago
This was the first View Askewniverse film I had ever seen. I understood NONE of the references to the previous films, and still absolutely loved it.
I watched the reboot, and oh my god, even having seen all of Kevin Smiths other films, I can't imagine how lost & aloof a newbie would feel watching that.

This might have been the last time I bought a movie on VHS. I think I started buying DVDs with the special edition LotR box sets in 2002.
I remember finding the movie funny in 2001. I haven't watched it since probably like 2003/4. I'm still irked at how much emphasis on each syllable Judd Nelson put into "orangutan."

Too bad the funniest scene in the movie was cut.
Jay and Silent Bob get Nasty - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt2FKNBg3Vs
When I first saw the deleted scene on the DVD, I ended up laughing so hard I went into a laughing fit that can be hard to stop until one is close to passing out.
Side story - Back when this was released, there was some other movie playing at the multiplex I wanted to see. The multiplex was very new at the time, and the way it was set up, I accidentally went into the wrong theater, as the doors for each theater were very close together. I ended up staying for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, as I hate missing any part of a movie. Best mistake ever made when it came to watching movies.
This movie was so good and funny that I forgot what the other movie was that I was originally trying to see. (Most likely just a standard crime drama or action flick). While I had seen Dogma and Chasing Amy, this movie got me hooked on Kevin Smith movies.
THE SIGN ON THE BACK OF THE CAR SAID "CRITTERS OF HOLLYWOOD"! YOU DUMB FUCK!

Watched this at 14 right before high school and thought it was the coolest shit ever. Would make my name CLITCMDR at all lan parties, then made a group of friends watch it at 18 and it was entirely embarrassing. The difference in humor from 2004 to 2008 was intense, and I had to pretend I liked it ironically to hide my shame. Now I think it’s cute and fun and cringey but that’s fine :)

u/PunyParker826 1d ago
Did your friends watch/enjoy Kevin’s other stuff? I first saw it in my twenties and thought it was great, but easily half the appeal is all the callbacks/loose ends from the earlier movies. Otherwise it’s kinda just two stoners running around bumping into celebrities.

everyone is gonna quote this and it's much deserved, but I'll just chime in on the soundtrack. For whatever reason, so many of the songs on it stuck with me, did an excellent job of capturing the zaniness of the movie (and of course the little bits of scenes from the movie in between songs also helped)

The shot of baby Jay saying "fuck," dissolving to adult Jay just saying "fuck" repeatedly is probably my favourite part of the whole movie.
