Reflecting Pool Contractor Blames Its Own Repairs, Not Vandals, for Damage (Gift Article)

Yeah, no shit.

The Reflecting Pool had been having plumbing issues for years now, but somehow getting the funds to do a proper repair job was never a priority.

Then DJT's pool guys came in and did a quick patch up job, not going anywhere near the plumbing and, what do you know, people who didn't have the skills to address the real issues and therefore didn't improve the real issues, only made it worse.

u/audiophil80 21h ago

And that’s how they keep the money flowing

211

u/Elberik 21h ago

Literally paid his next door neighbor to do a quick patch job. Then paid him again to fix the first patch job. And the paid him again...

122

u/dj92wa 21h ago

With money that isn’t his

73

u/Guardianpigeon 19h ago

The next dem administration needs to create a special task force just to figure out how much of our money this dipshit spent on stuff like this. Then take it all back, with interest, from him and all the rich people who supported him.

90

u/Master_Dogs 19h ago

We all wish. It'll end up like Biden, where they spent years debating whether Trump did anything wrong. Even though he literally took home boxes and boxes of classified documents. If any average joe did this, straight to jail. Like I worked for a DoD contractor as an engineer. We got SO worked up over ANY accidental leakage of classified stuff. Literally had to have my work laptop wiped because 1 document got sent around that had too much information that made it "classified". Then I hear that Trump took boxes of shit home and got zero punishment. Such bullshit.

And that's ignoring the failed coup he launched, the fraud he commited, and the people he abused. Any of which would have tanked any other candidate. What was that guys name that ended his campaign over an awkward laugh...? He must be pissed at that.

Which sucks, it'll just enable a Thiel backed guy like JD Vance to come in 4-8 years later and pick right up where Trump left off.

43

u/peejay5440 18h ago

The shit that DOGE got away with would probably give you a stroke.

17

u/Master_Dogs 18h ago

Yeah I only really mentioned v1 stuff, Trump v2 is an even longer list of bullshit.

Howard Dean was the guy who cheered too loud & was tanked. Another was Michael Dukakis who had a photo taken of him in a tank & got tanked because he looked silly in the helmet they stuck on him

u/geetar_man 12h ago edited 12h ago

There was also a Republican Senator in Virginia. George Allen. He was trying to say some guys foreign sounding name and said the word “macaca.” Not really a slur in English, but it is practically the n-word in other languages.

Sunk him. Undecided voters would not bat an eye to that now.

Based on just how stupid everything is at this point, I'd put money the next guy is just Joe Rogan.

That's one of the many problems with Trump and his cronies: why would you really want to fix a problem when you can keep it going and continue to generate money for very little effort. MAGAs clearly don't understand this fact. The government money/taxpayer money is the money tap and Republicans only want it to keep flowing in their direction. Waste, fraud and abuse is only a problem if Republicans aren't profiting off of it.

6

u/thorofasgard 19h ago

That can't be! They're the party of "fiscal responsibility!".

9

u/CelestialFury 19h ago

Republicans say "fiscal responsibility" but it's code for "the Democratic party will fix our mess later and when everything is getting back into good shape, we get voted in so we can wreck the economy all over again!"

7

u/BananasPineapple05 19h ago

In my lifetime, all GOP presidents (from Reagan onwards) have left a greater deficit than they inherited and all Democratic presidents managed to make the situation better.

7

u/thorofasgard 19h ago

Because they tend to behave like adults. Republicans at this point are just Robber Barons.

I feel like there are so many comments about other shit, that it's gotta be part of the pysop.

Like they drove on it and broke it. There's no doubt about it. They drove on the fresh seals in-between the slabs on concrete, and they're passing it onto the contractor to deflect blame.

4

u/Outlulz 9h ago

If you actually read the article, it talks about how they tried to reapply it last month and the same thing happened. Then they changed how they were applying the sealing chemicals and it still happened a third time.

→ More replies (1)

77

u/agentchuck 19h ago

I mean that's all fine. But denying the reality of what happened to the point of deploying guards, arresting and attempting to prosecute people rather than admit that a fix was incompetent is incredibly alarming.

It's actually such a small deal, but they're so allergic to being even a little bit wrong that they'd rather destroy some dudes life for something they know he didn't do.

29

u/rckid13 18h ago

It's actually such a small deal, but they're so allergic to being even a little bit wrong that they'd rather destroy some dudes life for something they know he didn't do.

It barely even would have been a news story if they had just said "oops something went wrong. We need to drain and seal the pool again to fix it." End of story.

23

u/BananasPineapple05 19h ago

I thought it was more about diverting attention from... I mean, you take your pick. The Epstein files. The crappy economic situation for most people. The way he's isolating the United States from all other democratic countries. The way they're upending civil liberties up and down the country, etc. etc.

He wanted to be a real-estate president because that's what he knows but, so far, all he's managed to do is destroy the White House and the Reflecting Pool.

12

u/StanDaMan1 18h ago

Its fascinating that among other things that US just can't seem to be able to figure out - aside of helathcare, education or democracy - seems to be... pools.

Apparently creating a shallow pool with water is beyond technological or financial capabilities of USA.

Someone quick, do the math on how much wine mass there has to be to create a black hole

5

u/PassiveMenis88M 19h ago

A single drop of wine is enough, you just need to crush it to its Schwarzschild radius.

3

u/keeper_of_the_donkey 19h ago

No way a single drop attains the Pirro saturation point

3

u/PassiveMenis88M 19h ago

There is no known minimum amount of mass required to form a black hole, only that the mass is sufficiently crushed. Now, if you want one that lasts, then somewhere around 2 to 3 solar masses.

6

u/beatenmeat 18h ago

Also hasn't stopped MAGA from continuously claiming that there surely were vandals otherwise Trump would never have made that claim. In many cases they even kept throwing shade at him despite the case being dismissed. Literally every time the reflecting pool and dropped charges were brought up they still continued to search for a scape goat and now that the contractor finally admits it was their own fault I guarantee they will never acknowledge it. Anything but admit dear leader took them for fools...

53

u/breakfasteveryday 21h ago edited 21h ago

I mean, lots. There are literally websites dedicated to it.

https://politifact.com/factchecks/list/?speaker=donald-trump&ruling=false

There's huge lists of lies compiled by major news outlets that was written 8 or 9 years ago and is way behind the lie train

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/06/23/opinion/trumps-lies.html?smid=nytcore-android-share

Wikipedia has a massive article on it

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_or_misleading_statements_by_Donald_Trump

Trump lies so much that most of the people who aren't under his thrall choose to focus on other more dire and/or actionable things rather than get pissed off that he gaslit people about the root cause of his latest public real estate failure.

Personally, I'm most concerned about the lies he is telling about the unreleased Epstein files and his culpability in them.

9

u/Pablo_is_on_Reddit 20h ago

The people who need to hear him called out will never actually listen to or absorb this new information. As soon as Trump blamed vandals, that was the end of the story no matter what else happens down the road. Unfortunately, that's true for most issues. I think most people develop their opinions based on first impressions and never change them, regardless of what new information comes out.

5

u/Unusual-Layer-8965 19h ago

But we can start a war with another country at the drop of a hat (metaphorically speaking).

10

u/gooblefrump 17h ago

But the bigger problem, the company said, was that the repair plan laid out in the contract called for the layers of liner to include two chemicals that turned out to be incompatible.

The chemical on top reached a temperature hotter than what the compound underneath could withstand, and the heat caused the bottom layer to blister and come loose, the documents show. The contractor said it had not expected that outcome because it was very uncommon to mix the two products in that way.

So... Why do it in the first place?

8

u/aldehyde 17h ago

you're going to put people in jail for 10-20 years just to look tough cause your fucking buddies are incompetent. wow so tough donald, so scary. fucking disgusting.

2

u/Marcadorian 20h ago

5

Ha ha no I wanted to give out a free gift article from my subscription so that others can read without a paywall

6

u/Pacoboyd 19h ago

While I appreciate it, It's kinda worthless because they still make you sign up for an account to read it. Not sure if you were aware of that or not.

6

u/kaiiizen 20h ago

Anyone with some semblance of a functioning brain should already know to believe the opposite of anything said, stated, or declared by this adminstration.

5

u/corbie 19h ago

Have to sign up to read. Not much of a gift. :(

4

u/tiny_chaotic_evil 18h ago

will Trump appologize for calling people domestic terrorists and putting their lives at risk and causing them financial harm?

of course not, he's shit.

4

u/jcpopm 21h ago

So the contractor was the vandal?!

(National) Guards, seize him!

3

u/Sour_baboo 20h ago

The suit for malicious prosecution should already be filed.

4

u/Medford_Lanes 20h ago

Ah, the no-bid contractor confirms the federal government lied straight to the public’s face. Add it to the list.

4

u/juanjing 20h ago

So Trump did it with his motorcade, and he's gotten these guys to play patsy for him. Another day in DC.

4

u/ImOnlyHereForTheCoC 18h ago

>Mr. Wischer, a former executive at a metal processing company, originally joined the Trump administration last year to work on critical minerals policy. But he has since shifted his focus to the Reflecting Pool renovation and the president’s other pet projects in Washington.

God, how fucking embarrassing. Dude probably has some kind of specialized degree yet he’s still on pool guy duty. Not that I feel sorry for any stooge serving this administration, mind

5

u/Adventurous_Light_85 17h ago

See Trump, lies dont stand the test of time. You. Are. Worthless. Liar.

5

u/Seagoon_Memoirs 16h ago

they are taking the blame

so that people won't blame trump for the motorcade on the wet paint

4

u/blackmobius 15h ago

We all already knew. Weird how trumps doj started putting up wanted posters and 10 ft fences and constant guards. To catch some imaginary vandal.

5

u/clashrendar 15h ago

I bet they didn't get paid.

3

u/Old_Goat_Cyclist 12h ago

Sounds like a company without a lot of immunity from civil liability just limited its exposure

6

u/FractionofaFraction 21h ago

Sure, but how does that fit into the narrative that Trump wants to spin?

Tch. It's almost as if they don't understand lying to further your own agenda at all.

3

u/FidelCastroll 21h ago

I would every SOB from the executive to judicial branch if I was charged with anything in the mess

3

u/Lavinia-Whateley 21h ago

I'm having a whole lot of problems believing this story. Someone in trumps circle is admitting blame? For anything? Yeah, I just do not believe it.

3

u/Fit-Let8175 20h ago

That would explain it, but doesn't this go completely against this administration's policy to blame someone else?

3

u/raistan77 20h ago

counting the minutes till trump argue that they are wrong and dont know what they are talking about

3

u/Big-Routine222 20h ago

The fact that the contractor even said anything is practically a miracle. Part of me hopes it’s to do the right thing, but partly I assume it’s to try and get ahead of some lawsuits.

3

u/lew_rong 19h ago

Honesty from the contractor? donnie's gonna be more upset about that than the NYFD blacklisting him from their calendars.

3

u/notjawn 18h ago

Well, yeah. They hired a complete jack leg operation to do it and didn't pay them.

3

u/FormerNeighborhood80 18h ago

I think we all knew that. It’s his pattern to blame others when anything goes wrong.

3

u/rbobby 17h ago

Did they use the wet kind of water? I hear that's bad.

3

u/leftcoastg 16h ago

This company has no idea what it’s doing.

Also, love the photos of the employees spraying harsh chemicals without any PPE.

3

u/Adventurous-Tea-876 15h ago

That contractor is a radical left woke!

3

u/longstrangetrip444 14h ago

Just FlexSeal that mfer and call it a day

5

u/Hell-Yea-Brother 20h ago

It doesn't matter as the whole thing did it's job. It was another distraction to get people to rush to social media and make news panels about it.

We all know he lies, cheats, scams, deflects, grifts, and anything else you can find.

The more time spent focusing on things like this the less time people spend talking about the Epstein files, or the govt selling off national park land, or reducing EPA rules, or bulldozing through protected lands, or gray wolf protections being rolled back, or any of the dozen other much more important things that should be headlines.

2

u/Y0___0Y 21h ago

Why would they do that? Their client is saying they are not at fault and it was vandals. Why would they not just roll with that?

2

u/Bzr21 21h ago

Diaper Donny won't like hearing this ..

2

u/nopulsehere 19h ago

I would like to blame myself for the mistake. I will also be triple charging the taxpayers for my mistake! Thank you for your service.

2

u/djankylosaur 19h ago

How long until Trump comes out with a statement about how it was the terrorists on 9/11 and he saw it personally happen and was trying to stop it?

2

u/RefrigeratorNo1160 18h ago

Oh so it was a load of bullshit the whole time just like everyone knew it was. Well good thing nobody got their lives ruined over it

2

u/DarkBomberX 14h ago

What?! Youre telling me they fucked up?! Woah! Crazy.

2

u/johnyordinary 14h ago

Lets take time to reflect on the dissapearing Epstein files ..

2

u/C64128 13h ago

You mean trump was lying the whole time? Who knew? (Most everyone)

2

u/Kiwi_Fried_Chicken 11h ago

I knew it. The pool contractor was ANTIFA all along /s

2

u/Massive-Challenge273 11h ago

When they have to spin and lie and grift over a fucking reflecting pool you know you're in good hands with the rest of the important issues!

2

u/gamerdudeNYC 9h ago

Ok so how long will the Olympic kayak guy go to jail for this?

2

u/AGrandNewAdventure 9h ago

I may not understand how repairs work, but aren't they supposed to do the opposite of damage?

2

u/AlanFromRochester 8h ago

even this person working for him won't back up his lies

2

u/Caffinated_butthole 8h ago

That means the contractor will refund all the money, right? right?? Right?!!

2

u/__SockPuppet__ 5h ago

Where's Doug POS Burgum? He was the most vociferous at blaming vandals throughout this saga. At least Pirro, eventually, acknowledged that there was no criminal damage perpetrated on the pool.

2

u/Bronzyroller 3h ago

We already knew this, everyone knew this from the get go
