lmao he literally moves when it cuts. Hes not trying to hide that he didn't do it, just showing the vision cause he probably was like "F it Im not doing that again today"

u/slagatronic 1d ago
Well. Like, what if all the energy used for the backflip made the clouds move?

Weird zoom before the last trick too. Not a great nollie heal but he’s got skills

u/FalcomanToTheRescue 1d ago
He tried to do the extra backflip all in one take. But it was too hard so he gave up

How the f do skaters not break their ankle every day

u/DrWindupBird 1d ago
I skated for a few years in hs way back in the 90s and saw so many people get hurt. Still never occurred to me to wear a helmet though. Youth is wasted on the young.

Us humans can be genuinely stupid. I skated for a few years in the late 90s and didn't know anyone who used a helmet. Getting injured was like some weird badge of honor.
It reminds me of how much everyone despised using seat belts in cars too. Such simple things that could save us from an easily preventable death and people were just like "nah, I'm good."

u/trimbandit 1d ago
I remember riding with 2 other friends in the open back of another friend's truck for 250 miles down highway 5 lol
6
u/LeaveThatCatAlone 1d ago
Shit my dad had me doing that as a toddler. It was blast, but he wouldn't remember it today and would call me liar.

u/g0greyhound 1d ago
My grandmother, until the day she died, swore that it was more dangerous to be wearing a seatbelt during a wreck because her friend got bruised across the chest from one during an accident.

But those things aren’t cool bro. It’s only cool if I can get real hurt, ya know.

Are ligaments and shit more flexible as kids? I feel like I took some falls as a 14 year old that would kill me today, even though I just brushed it off back then lol
14
u/Raythatstabbedsteve 1d ago
Yes, all the elasticity leaves your connective tissue as you slowly morph from lamb into mutton.
3
u/12InchCunt 1d ago
Idk why that made me feel so uncomfortable haha
3
u/Raythatstabbedsteve 1d ago
Let me just put this mint sauce down, then tell me why you feel uncomfortable?

You have more collagenized stiff connective tissue, less regenerative reservoir, and a more annoying base of inflammation as a boomer (25+). Older people are generally heavier with wack muscle mass to fat ratios compared to their scrappy youth. Hawk only recently gave up around 55 though so you can work around it. Older people also generally have more brain power and don't need to hit a sick vert to get friends, they're happy drinking alone at home watching netflix.

The fact that many are young, and young people are made of rubber and magic. By the time they’re old, they’ve learned how to bail.
When I returned to skating after 9 years I obliterated my clavicle trying to ollie up a curb. Strangely my ankles have remained injury free from skateboarding, but my torso and arms have been roughed up quite a bit

u/luvgun00 1d ago
I passed out after my fingers were set into hanging finger traps and the doctor added weights to my bicep to pull my gooseneck of a forearm back into position.

u/PurpleSailor 1d ago
You're actually on to something with that youth rubber and magic. When you're very young your bones are very much like cartilage in that they bend and twist very easily, usually without breaking. As you age your bones become more and more less flexible and brittle. Baby's bounce and oldsters shatter when it comes to bones. Even the simple act of falling while ice skating is so much different between the ages of 14 and 44. When it happens at that latter age it feels like getting hit by a truck.

u/JrAdelberg 1d ago
I never seriously hurt my ankle skating when I was younger. Now that I'm almost 40, my ankle hurts so much it keeps me up most nights. Shit catches up with you sometimes.

u/dontgetitwisted_fr 1d ago
My ankles are destroyed from skateboarding as a kid.
Cant play basketball without both ankles in a tensioner to this day

I've been skating for ugh 37 years now, it's not the ankles that are bad its the wrists that cant hold up.

Damn straight, I use to have the bone bruises under my skin, where they’d be perfectly normal hands until I to my first slam of the day (even light ones) and my hands would immediately bloom into purple sausages lol. One of many recurring injuries. I skated for 12 years, I stopped about 8 years ago. I’m 31 now and thinking about getting back into it but I’m sticking to flat and just gonna get good with my tricks again for some fun cardio. I’m not interested pushing for risky clips anymore, gotta feed the fam.

No helmet with a concrete curb at perfect head splitting distance is certainly a choice

u/TheRealGumb4ll98 1d ago
Not to mention trying to land on a skateboard which isn't secured to the floor in any way besides it's free floating wheels.
It is certainly one of the ways to die.

Am I wrong here, or was there a period of about 5 years where helmets finally came into "fashion", but then suddenly just disappeared again a few years ago?
I know several emergency doctors and nurses who say their new biggest intakes are kids not wearing helmets, surpassing motorcyclists on rainy days.
It's fucking nuts.

Yeah, if this is the first opportunity to learn to "never give up", he is ridiculously talented.
I bet he's been not giving up for a long time now.

Right! My first thought was- cool video and crap title. Skaters learn this lesson very early on or they never have any skills. This guy isn’t learning a lesson..he’s putting into practice his skill and established work ethic.

Stupid title. He already knew that lesson, and had that drive; that’s why he didn’t give up. Cool trick though.

That’s a conveniently located concrete curb right next to his landing zone. I think the valuable less is going to be wear a f’ing helmet.

u/Icy-Entrepreneur9002 1d ago
Pretty sure this is Ryan Bean and the real lesson is probably closer to know when to give up. Turns out constantly spinning and diving at 100 plus feet might not be good for your body.

And that’s how he became a millionaire! Sorry, I don’t get what valuable lesson there was here. He did something a bunch of times until he happened to land exactly in the right spot. He’d probably have to do it 15 more times before he hit it again. What did he learn that he didn’t already know?

I want to fight whoever thought putting a random raised boarder of concrete was a good idea. Really good way for someone to go from a gravel rash face to a broken eye socket face.

Takes forever to nail real complicated trick, proceeds to just casually launch a backflip in celebration
