I love how this is a game you would make up with your friend when you’re 9 year old but Americans do it and it’s a fully sponsored event with thousands of spectators.

That’s what America is about, making your dreams a reality

You feared people would start saying nice things about America and you were determined to stop it.

Kind of like that tournament in Alaska where they launch cars off a 400 ft cliff lmao

Wait till you see a figure-8 demolition derby race. It's exactly what it sounds like.

Holy crap! This race looks fun AF but also unsafe AF!

This is what mfs in Ohio/other fly over states do for fun bro.
It's this or drugs. You gotta pick one.

Someone else mentioned "flyover states" but, even if you don't know about California and Florida, you know Texas isn't a "flyover" state, right? These things are in state fairs ALL FUCKING OVER you just don't know about them because you don't give a shit.
I'd bet you all the money in your mom's purse that, if you ever went to one of these shenanigan fests, you'd have a goddamn blast.

Apparently it was supposed to be a James Bond themed game but they didn't have the rights.

I don't care how redneck this event is. I'd drop a few bucks for a fun day on this

Right?? I'm not into car races at all but I'd watch the fuck out of this and cheer my brains out. This looks insane and I love chaos.

This is great! I wonder if the cars are reinforced
29
u/Blutroyale-_- 1d ago
The way the van rolled it and the roof didn't crush, more than likely.
3
u/Xxxrasierklinge7 1d ago
Maybe a roll cage but I've seen cars flip like that and not get crushed so 🤷♀️
12
u/TheSessionMan 1d ago
100%. Like all above-the-books Motorsports events every car would need to pass a safety check and wouldn't be allowed to compete if they failed. Insurance and liability reasons. Looks like every car here has a roll cage, so that suggests that rollover protection is part of the minimum requirements.
1
u/mavric91 10h ago
They usually are. Races like this they typically take junk yard cars and prep them: anything that could break and cover the track is removed, like side window glass and headlights. These likely have roll cages and potential racing seats and harnesses bolted in. They often usually have racing certified fuel cells too that are explosion/fire resistant. They bolt them into the trunk and remove the oem gas tank. After the race the seats, fuel cells and even roll cage are removed to stick into the next car and the car is sent off to the junkyard to be scrapped.

I love local speedways. My favorite was the train races where 2 cars are chained together and race in figure 8s. I think the front car has engine but no brakes and the back has brakes but no engine

u/Active-Treat7555 1d ago
Would a FWD or RWD be more advantageous for this
10
u/Dr0110111001101111 1d ago
I'd guess FWD because you can lay off the throttle as soon as the front wheels are on. Then you can ease the rest of the car on slowly, relative to the flatbed.
With RWD, you need to give it a lot of gas right up until the whole car is on, at which point you need to kind of abruptly stop or you'll crash into the back of the truck and possibly bounce right off the bed.
→ More replies (1)8
u/R2D-Beuh 1d ago
Fwd is generally more stable so I guess that, but idk
6
u/Phoenixloop2868 1d ago
Plus with rwd you can have power on the road while the trailer is turning and driving at a slightly different speed, probably at a different angle that the front wheels are at. I feel like that's probably not going to work out too well, but I really don't know.
1
u/13THEFUCKINGCOPS12 1d ago
Going to depend on the driver, but most people will ultimately feel more comfortable driving FWD where most cars on the road are FWD

u/Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy 1d ago
I think it'd be up to driver's preference tbh. I can see advantages for either.

Holy fuck. Hudson, NH? Like, literally ten minutes from me? This looks fun as hell, I want to bring the kids!
Edit: I did a search and answered my own question. Yes, it us in Hudson, NH.

u/CASUALxCHICKEN 1d ago
Crazy, I would've guessed it was in the south
3
u/Ken_Thomas 18h ago
When we do this in the south there are more explosions, and we drive a herd of pigs across the track at critical moments.

i love shit like this. i grew up by the now torn down rockford speedway in illinois, and they were always doing stuff like this. figure 8 trailer races (you won by being the last person with a trailer), figure 8 school bus races, train races (3 cars chained together, person in the front car steers, person in the back car controls the throttle and brake).
i miss it. wholesome family redneck shit.

Up here in Minnesota, about 25 years ago, I saw a "trailer race" where every vehicle was towing a trailer. Last running vehicle with a trailer was the winner, demolition derby style. It was great. This looks great too.

u/ExecTankard 22h ago
Tons of clips on YouTube because those races are still run and they are fabulous.

Rednecks do be a pretty creative bunch, ya gotta give'em that. Now that I think about it, has there ever been a redneck MacGuyver SNL skit or something?

u/kamaradski 1d ago
this is amazing, maybe even more fun than racing in reverse, or with a caravan :D

This feels like a sport that’s only legal because we didn’t think we needed laws against
1
u/Professional-Form-90 1d ago
I think this would be fun to do if the truck with the trailer were going way slower. I’m intellectually interested in what my strategy would be.
1
1
u/tykaboom 1d ago
I feel like the goal is completed once the car has stopped moving on the trailer.
I guess they shake you off on purpose?
2
u/PiDigitsOfPi 15h ago
I'm not sure that it's on purpose as much as the sharp turns tend to naturally slosh the car off if it isn't centered on there good

There’s a story in the news a few years back about a car accident where somebody’s boat came off their trailer, and it crushed the cab of their own truck and the car in front of them and basically killed everybody. I really hope that truck has a roll cage. I’m sure they’re being safe but gosh that gives me the heebie-jeebies.

u/Shawn_NYC 21h ago
The guy driving the truck is insane. The cab of a truck is not designed to protect the driver from a full force car collision driving over the truck bed!
