Blackface is a specific racist exaggerated parody, but an actor acting a different race isn't racist.

Theoretically reffering to one person as being from a "race" is what racism is about, racism itself is the ideology that argues for "human races", most of the time when people talk about race they mean ethnicity like "hispanic" or "italian" etc. But they jumble it to the point of some calling "black" a race when it is a skin color, and something so superficial that can change during a person's life. By nature racism is a pseudoscience so the category of race shouldn't be used at all, but some fields like sociology try using it because they study the effects that social constructs cause on society and that includes the construct of race that permeate racist societies. If you go from country to country you will notice that the concept of race is regional and every country and place has a slightly different idea of what a race is with a vague pseudoscientific system to argue for it, in the end its always just to justify some old caste system that the elite has implemented and abused to be in power.

Dang! No idea this kid was acting. Good for him. I watched video of him years ago playin ball. I felt bad for him as it looked like he was in pain. Cool to see.

That little smile he gives omg noooo

Same here. The Offspring genuinely had me horrified, and this is coming from a lifelong Alien fan who thinks the third movie and Resurrection were great as well.

The videos of him playing basketball were super awkward. He looks almost like he's in pain with how his body is shaped and how he moves.

u/casual_creator 12h ago
Thereās zero way that dude is NOT in pain. Normal gigantism is hard enough on peopleās bodies.

I thought the same. I'm glad he has something like this that he can do that I imagine pays well.

I love when movies use practical effects instead of CGI. Itās super impressive and stands up over time, unlike the CGI slop of the 2010s and 2020s.

H.R. Geiger would have been horrified to find out someone put genitals in something derivative of his work. He would never

It's just so amazing they hire him for horror movies now, it's just so much better having him moving in weird motions (even if it gets improved by cgi later) than having a full cgi creature without any reference in the scene. He also starred in Backrooms.

He's not in makeup. This is what romanian-hungarians look like canonically.
(I can make this joke, I am one)

I liked Romulus for the fact that it a new cool Alien movie, however.. I feel that it could of been titled "Alien - Greatest Hits"
It took something from all the Alien movies and re-created it.
Just my opinion and I've loved the Alien franchise since I was a kid.

Two thoughts:
1: Damn, that girl is tiny. (Even compared to the dude who isn't a giant.)
2) We will never get a sequel to this because Old Man Scott is in charge for some reason.

Is his name pronounced Bob Bobrosski?
3
u/TheDavinci1998 7h ago
Almost. This is hungarian version of a polish surname, I'm almost certain that the last part is pronounced like "tski", not "ski". "Ts" sound is how we (Polish) pronounce c and Hungarians pronounce "cz"

u/too_oh_ate 13h ago
Very cool that this a practical effect, but seeing them run back thing after thing in this movie, and in this case Alien 4, was such a drag. The most forgettable movie.

u/Best-Practice-8038 11h ago
I thought Romulus was a mediocre movie.
They had so much cool stuff in the opening and in the set up of the movie and they fucking blew it 45 minutes in!

I just realized him playing a black man in Backrooms is the first time society has accepted a white man playing a black man in a long time...well other than Robert Downey Jr.
