Forced conscription in Ukraine (further examples: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cr7k5ngde3vo)
•
u/Prudent_Order_3361 39m ago
It sucks for both sides normal people. I can't imagine this happening to me. All because of one man, putin
•
u/DTMN13 20m ago
I work with a few Ukranian people, some since seeking refuge and some from before the war. One of the women that has been here, in Ireland, for over a decade was sent a video during her shift of her son, who lived in Ukraine at the time, being hauled off for forced conscription. Poor woman was in bits and hasn't recovered. She's gone heavy on the drink as a way of coping.
•
u/Formal_Lecture_248 4m ago
Ukraine Government also does this. Can anyone make out that license plate?
•
u/Prudent_Order_3361 4m ago
But why is the Ukrainian government is doing this? Any reason you can think of?
•
u/Njaulv 10m ago
Putin is not forcing conscription in the Ukraine.
•
u/Kitesolar 7m ago
No he’s just steamrolling over the sovereignty of a country to try and take control of it and the country is fighting back and winning. Wipe your chin btw you have Putin’s jizz on it still.
•
u/Prudent_Order_3361 7m ago
Holy shit, yeah he is. Without Putin eat there's no reason for it. He's the reason

Russia invading Ukraina is Natos fault? Show me the mental gymnastics here please

u/TexFarmer 24m ago
Putin is not kidnapping people off the street & forcing them into fighting at the point of a gun.
•
•
u/Kryptosis 17m ago
Yes he is lol. He’s doing it to Ukrainians in Ukraine. Literally kidnapped 35,000 Ukrainian children and are currently forcing them to train in military service.
And emptying your jails onto the front line is not much different.
•
u/Novke1337 26m ago
You know about the NATO military base being built in Ukraine which made the war begin? Im not saying war is good its just NATO made the problem here and dipped
•
u/SteveMarck 24m ago
Russia made the war start. They invaded. The Ukraine is not in NATO, but should have been, it would have prevented this war.

Even if it's true, it's no reason to invade, kill, abduct and rape people.
Besides... https://www.gisreportsonline.com/r/russias-africa-footprint/
•
u/Suitable-Werewolf492 22m ago
Building a base….does not equate to starting a war. ONE side crossed their border with military action. That side is responsible for starting a war. The other side is responsible for building a base to defend against a nation that would start a war with no reason other than hostile takeover.
You are a stooge.
•
u/RepulsiveLoquat418 23m ago
which made the war begin
nah, bro. putin's dream of a return to the soviet union's former "glory" made the war begin.
•
u/utrecht1976 21m ago
What's the problem of NATO building a base in Ukraine? Ukraine gave up their nuclear heads in exchange for RU not invading them.
Besides, what's Russia doing... https://www.gisreportsonline.com/r/russias-africa-footprint/
•
u/somebob 19m ago edited 13m ago
Ukraine is a sovereign nation and allowing anything they want to be built within their borders should be their right as a country. Putin may have been aggravated but he should have kept his aggravated ass within his own borders. It is his fault the war began and continues.
And besides that, Putin had been planning publicly to attack Ukraine for two decades. He told President Bush in 2008, “you see Goerge, Ukraine isn’t even a state” while discussing Russian expansion goals. However, he was publicly claiming Ukraine was a part of Russia as early as 2001.
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/show/ukraines-history-and-its-centuries-long-road-to-independence
So we can’t even pretend that any outsiders’ actions was the true casus belli.

I don't know if Ukraine had petitioned for membership in NATO before the war. If so, NATO probably said no, fearing war with Russia and/or fearing a potential mole nation. I think it's clear now that Ukraine is not a tool of Russia.
•
u/Natural-Sandwich-852 12m ago
I don't know if Ukraine had petitioned for membership in NATO before the war
Yes, in 2008, and we were rejected. But anyways back then, the majority of us were still against NATO. Opinions shifted after the annexation of Crimea and the situation in the Donbas, which was meant to destabilize our country
•
u/Away_Investigator351 17m ago
What's the name of the site for Russian ones? This only shows videos from one side, which is weird.
•
u/LiterallyRain 14m ago
I'd imagine this is because if you post something like this from Russia you go to prison at best.
•
u/hoagiejabroni 2m ago
You're weird for thinking it's weird. It's a website specifically about Ukraine forced conscription. You are the one assigning the need for it to include all conscription ever? It does not claim to say Ukraine is the only one doing it, it is obviously made by and for the Ukraine.
•
u/veleso91 15m ago
There isn't one for Russian ones afaik. Pls share if you find one. Russia is famous for dashcam vids so if there is forced conscription there too, there must be an equivalent site to the Ukrainian one.
•
u/Away_Investigator351 12m ago
Well I've seen videos myself but the website you shared is specifically made to show an activity from one side only, thus is rather obviously a bias, agenda driven project.
It seems merely that nobody has gone to the effort of amassing this stuff onto one site.
•
u/Calm-Beach-4228 28m ago
Do some critical thinking from time to time, I know you’re used to being spoon fed information.
•
u/Maleficent_Sea3561 51m ago
If you look at the plates of the white car, they appear to be ukrainian. My guess is that this is military police doing forced conscription.
•
u/GarlicThread 36m ago
What you are calling "forced conscription" is the unfortunate reality that the MP has to arrest the people dodging the draft.
Ukraine didn't start this war, russia did, and the reality is that draft dodgers are free-riding off the backs of thousands of Ukrainian men willingly fighting to protect their nation from the invader.
It's easy to say "but I don't wanna risk my life on the frontlines" while you comfortably benefit from others risking theirs every single day. Nobody wants to die, but there is a point where you are either doing your part or you are not. Also, not every soldier is fighting on the frontlines. 90% of an army is behind the frontlines, and the last thing any army wants is scared kids weeping instead of fighting. putting their fellow soldiers in danger. There are plenty of positions where people who are scared can make themselves useful without ending up in these situations.
•
u/MapleYamCakes 27m ago
Not everyone on earth feels a loyalty and devotion strong enough to kill other humans to defend whatever government exists to represent the arbitrary land boundaries they happen to reside within.
•
u/BigMax 21m ago
It's a really interesting moral/ethical question.
Obviously, Russia conscripting people is 100% immoral, no question about that. This war is illegal, unnecessary and immoral. Forcing someone to participate is simply wrong, full stop.
But in the Ukraine? It's not as easy. They don't want this war ,they didn't choose this war, and they aren't dragging this war out. It's been forced on them.
So if you live there, the military absolutely IS protecting you the best they can from evil forces. And when that military is stretched thin... what's morally right? To just give in, to lose to evil? Or to force some of those people living under that protection to participate in that protection?
•
u/TheVermonster 20m ago
Russia and Putin don't really give a fuck. They are killing civilians across the country. They are destroying buildings, roads, and other infrastructure. They will happily inherit a blood soaked barren land of that's what it takes.
I'm incredibly privileged to have not lived in a time or place where a draft was necessary, but it's pretty easy to see that Ukraine has few options at this point.
•
u/WinningTheSpaceRace 23m ago
But they feel happy to be killed by the invader, right?
•
u/banryu95 5m ago
At a basic moral level, yes. It's all subjective, but I would rather be killed than be forced to kill. This is the definition of passivism. It is far easier to let emotions and fight/flight control your actions than holding to your beliefs and preserving your integrity. Physical survival and preserving your self identity sometimes are not compatible.
What does it fix? Maybe nothing. But that's not the point. Hopefully, in the long run, humans will be less stupid and figure out a social system that allows us to live without trying to kill each other. But for the time being, I'll let other people make their own choices.
•
u/Hypornicated_1 17m ago
Not to defend the government. To defend the men who would be slaughtered or enslaved, the women who would be raped, and the children who would be forcibly "relocated" to new families in Russia.
Which has happened in occupied areas.
Fuck any one who doesn't fight for their country, in that situation.
•
u/Csaszarcsaba 11m ago
I'm hungarian, so probably no wars any time soon, but if I were to get a letter saying I have to become a soldier to fight in a war, then I'm getting my family, and dipping to switzerland. My, and my families life is more precious than some building I happened to call a home, a patch of land I happened to call my home country, etc. Whatever I lose, I can rebuild, repurchase, but I can never revive anyone close to me or myself. I am infinitely more valuable then any material belonging, and I refuse to risk my life.
•
u/Cador0223 7m ago
That's acceptable. Its those that choose to stay and benefit from others bloodshed without giving their own that are a problem. Leaving means you are no longer another civilian to protect, another mouth to feed.
•
u/ravenHR 0m ago
Why aren't the officials defending the men, women and children? They are fine jerking eachother off and visiting foreign countries to "get support". I'll be fine with serving on the frontlines when they and their families serve and die on the frontlines.
When the fighting subsides you understand that while you were fighting they sold the country and you are left standing there having sacrificed everything and gained nothing.
•
u/GarlicThread 8m ago
I'm sure many of them would rather live under Ukrainian democracy, however flawed it may be, rather than russian totalitarianism. It's easy to claim you don't feel loyalty and devotion while enjoying all the benefits of the regime you live under.
The share of UK citizens who claimed they would willingly fight for their country was abysmal before WW2, and once the conflict started you would have been hard-pressed to find anyone not vehemently in support of the crown.
•
u/CricketNo7666 3m ago
Welcome to reality.
Then get out. You don’t get to be a part of it but not be a part of it.
•
u/dabenu 14m ago
This is not about land borders. It's about tyranny vs freedom.
If they're content living in tyranny, they can move to Russia all by themselves.
•
u/MapleYamCakes 6m ago
Why do you assume the people are content living in tyranny and why is moving to Russia the only option in this scenario you’ve presented?
•
•
u/Atiscomin 22m ago
It is ok not wanting to die on the war front.
If you can criticize those who flee, go to Ukraine and fight.
•
u/GarlicThread 7m ago
Funny you would say that, because I actually went to Ukraine and donated significant amounts to people who needed equipment and services, so you can kindly keep your comments to yourself :)
•
•
u/Mr_F1xEr 19m ago
law says they should go to prison for dodging draft, in reality they forced into frontlines
•
u/ChaseTheMystic 12m ago
Bro you not hypnotized it's okay.
You may face consequences from a corrupt system but it's not morally wrong to not want to be drafted into war. You were indoctrinated into thinking you have some tie to the soil underneath you and now you think people should die for the system built on top of it.
•
•
u/Accurate-Buddy6383 5m ago
Children of Ukrainian elites are all abroad, living their best lives. It's not worth to die for a country. Ukrainian oligarchy who benefits most and has lead luxurious life there should die for the country or hire mercenaries
•
u/GarlicThread 0m ago
I don't remember saying anything in favour of these people. Arrest them yesterday for all I care.
Ukraine's struggle shouldn't be diminished just because their rich people are fucking them over. If we are going to do that, then every country on Earth deserves the same criticism.
•
u/MazDanny 27m ago
Women are comfortably benefitting from Men risking their lives so fuck off with your misandry
•
•
u/GarlicThread 5m ago
Droves of Ukrainian women willingly signed up to fight, so I fail to see your point.
•
•
u/ArguingisFun 21m ago
How many women start wars again?
•
u/technoferal 5m ago
History tells us that, when they do manage to gain the leadership of their nation, they actually start wars at a slightly higher rate than their male counterparts. Though that does seem to be different in the modern world (studies that only go back as far as the 60s), it's a rather small sample to overturn the rest of history.
•
u/ArguingisFun 3m ago
How many women leaders do we have to go from historically? (appreciate the genuine response!).
•
u/Worth_External_8762 14m ago
I'm a combat veteran and fuck drafts/forced conscription. Nobody should be forced to do shit in a country. It obviously sucks if they don't get enough troops to stop Putin, but if that's what the people want and they would rather let Putin win, then so be it.
I'll tell you right now, if the US military starts a draft if WW3 happens, I'm just dipping out. If they politely ask me to join the fight, sure. But they start forcing people to fight? Nah I'm out, let it all burn down. I stand for freedom.
•
u/NurYanov 45m ago
Brave woman if so.
•
u/Medium_Silver_2071 31m ago
Brave? Ukraine has been invaded and enemy Russian forces have taken over significant portions of the country. I would think Ukrainians need every able body manning a post or watch. Skirting that duty or helping people avoid that doesn’t sound brave to me.
•
u/halbGefressen 24m ago
Do we respect free will of individuals or do we not?
•
u/WinningTheSpaceRace 22m ago
Not absolutely, no. That would be fucking stupid.
•
u/EmilioFreshtevez 19m ago
It feels like you’re thinking of some weird hypothetical situation that nobody is arguing for.
•
•
u/NurYanov 10m ago
To die or not to die for your country is a choice, not duty. People should not be taken to war like that
•
u/KN_Knoxxius 22m ago
How so? He is a draft dodger. I get not wanting to die or being scared, but your homelands entire foundation is threatened. Others are dying to defend what he has, while he hides? She isn't doing anyone any favours.
All she did was get a charge for assault and he was likely conscripted anyway.
•
u/NurYanov 13m ago edited 10m ago
Your last sentence is a thing that makes people government system's slaves.
Your opinion does matter. Express yourself if you disagree and never think "anyway it gonna change nothing". Russians have similar mindset.
And woman is brave because she knows all that and acts, unlike others. To die or not to die for your country is your choice, not duty tho

No genocide. Simple war of conquest.
