This picture I took from the Brooklyn Promenade on 9/11 still haunts me.

Please consider crossposting to r/911archive if this is your first time posting this photo

You should get all the people in the pic and ask what they remember

u/Melquiades-the-Gypsy 7h ago

I'm gonna guess they remember some buildings collapsing.

u/swb1003 6h ago

I’m gonna guess there’s a whole lot more to the day. I spent most of the day in my middle school principal’s office, I remember the blue floral dress the secretary, Ms. Beabo, was wearing.

u/Melquiades-the-Gypsy 5h ago

Yeah but you were at school; these people are watching the twin towers on fire.

u/notsuperimportant 3h ago

I think thats the point... theyre saying those people remember a lot more details than just the buildings themselves collapsing

u/WETiLAMBY 9h ago

Not a dig at all but I’ve seen loads of photos of people posing their kids in front of the towers to get a photo of them with it, I have no idea if it was different that day but if it were me I wouldn’t be using a major serious event as a photo op. I know the true gravity of the situation wasn’t fully known at the time but what was the mindset behind the whole family photo with a burning building thing that was so common

u/freericky 8h ago

Nobody knew what would happen, everyone was just frozen, totally shocked. We knew something big was happening, but nobody understood how big of an impact it was going to have. Easy in hindsight

u/gOingmiaM8 8h ago

Media knew tho, immediately music videos and movies where made. People have been tragedy farmers since the beginning of time.

u/liamhull 8h ago

🤣NOBODY had a clue what was going on. I remember watching this live on the news and even the Russians was mentioned that they might have done it.

u/gOingmiaM8 7h ago

Yet within HOURS they had music videos made .. way back then.

u/swb1003 6h ago

lol wut. No.

u/gOingmiaM8 5h ago

Toby Keith, Garth brooks? Both released songs the very next day.

u/the_other_50_percent 3h ago edited 2h ago

Well that’s 100% false. Besides me remembering how everything was at a standstill other than grieving as a nation and even globally together, there are records of song releases to prove you laughably wrong.

Garth’s first single released in 2001 was in October (“Wrapped Up In You”), long planned from his album that year.

Toby Keith’s last 2001 single was released in August (“I Wanna Talk About Me”). His dumb “Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue” that was actually inspired by the 9/11 attacks was written at the end of 2001 and released in May 2002.

u/swb1003 2h ago

There are 2 notable songs from the 9/11 era. Enrique Inglesias’ Hero, released the week prior to 9/11; and Alan Jackson’s Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning, written at the end of October 2001 and not released until the following year.

Nobody was monopolizing 9/11 with music videos the next day, that’s an insane lie.

u/swb1003 3h ago

Psssst. Garth announced his retirement in 2000. Notably, pre-9/11. And Scarecrow was already written by 9/11. But sure, he released a song between 9/11 and Scarecrow.

(I’m with you. Just laughing at the person you’re responding to).

u/gOingmiaM8 8m ago

You both are wrong and a simple Google search proves it.

u/swb1003 5h ago

Which songs?

u/Stinky_Fartface 2h ago

You are talking out your ass.

u/Stinky_Fartface 2h ago

Dude no one was “posing” anything. This was a candid shot I took, along with many others, of the catastrophe. I honestly think its weird that you jumped to this assumption.

u/FrancisBitter 5h ago

This attitude of “posing for the shot” you’re describing didn’t exist yet in 2001. There was no social media to post it on and the photo was likely analogue too, you only had 36 pictures per roll.

u/timecomes 3h ago

Posing for the shot definitely existed in 2001..

This photo doesn’t even look like anyone is posing though so what are we even talking about here?

u/PimpTrickGangstaClik 3h ago

I’ve literally never heard of or seen any pics of people posing in front of the burning buildings

u/bunkbedss 1h ago

once in a lifetime opportunity (hopefully)

It's OK. Back then, you had to focus on Iraq or Afghanistan. Look at your progress, you're able to threaten so many more countries now. Imagine what you'll be in another 25yrs. I can't. It horrifies me. But I'm sure you can....

u/xenzor 11h ago

I'm as anti-America as the next person. But pick your moment dudette.

u/No-Student-6817 11h ago

60%+ sat at home voting day or worse. There is no bad time to wake a sleepwalking giant falling to the world like a bomb. Not one bad fucking second on any fucking clock...

u/RealDMC 10h ago

Get a hobby

u/No-Student-6817 10h ago

Hello 60+.

u/RealDMC 10h ago

Not quite. Hope you’re well.

u/Aidanation5 9h ago

Hello horrible person

u/Aidanation5 9h ago

I didnt, did you? Were you here voting? I voted against the evil that runs this country now. I donate my hard earned money to good and honest candidates that want to restore honor and democracy to the country. I try to teach the people in my life who are trump supporters the error of their ways.

Did you?

What have you fucking done? If you dont do anything, and especially if you arent one of the people living here and dealing with it, then maybe grow up? You cant find a better time to be a little bitch?

u/LeatherfacesChainsaw 9h ago

I want to fuck a clock

u/No-Student-6817 9h ago

Well, it can't be wrong twice a day, yeah ?

Yes, many large words in a sentence do seem to red-flag bot-creation lately. Also sad.

u/triplediscount 9h ago

Don’t you people get tired of using your free time to moan on Reddit?

u/No-Student-6817 9h ago

No, I remind myself of American ineptitude.

u/DonHarold 7h ago

Get over yourself

u/No-Student-6817 7h ago edited 6h ago

Oh, my country sucks. Our output is like bottom of the list. I'm not high on myself at all. However, my grandfather did tell me to learn from history and what he fought for in France. He asked me to call out dictatorship at any available time. You are sitting on your ass with a dictator at the helm.

u/TherapyPsychonaut 7h ago

You talk about voting rates and aren't even from the US. Stfu.

u/No-Student-6817 7h ago

U.S. power controls the world. Everyone in the world must respect and worry about that.

u/DonHarold 7h ago

Okay I’ll just get up and storm the capital alone. That should help.

Get real. You have no idea what you’re talking about. I and many many others have been busy since he was reelected organizing and getting progressive candidates elected. There is constant progress happening and it’s all thanks to local organizers.

Anyone that would say that nothing at all is being done is just lazy. It’s not hard to research and find all of the grassroots efforts that are going to wipe republicans out in November.

If you don’t care enough to search, keep your mouth shut.

u/No-Student-6817 7h ago

No, I'm not saying nothing's being done. I know exactly what I'm doing.

Angry people vote. What am I doing Don ? Until you, you, you and you, - yeah, you, the guy grabbing snacks - drop that ballot, I will keep pissing you all off.

Why ? Because after four years of him before - WITH KKK MARCHING OPENLY IN THE GODDAMN STREET DON - 35% of you stayed home voting day.

u/liamhull 8h ago

I'd say the Americans invaded Iraq and Afghanistan pretty effectively wouldn't call it inept at all, maybe the exit. However a regime attacking the innocence of the worlds most powerful military and putting the innocence of your own country at risk, I would consider a massive dose of ineptitude.

u/No-Student-6817 7h ago edited 6h ago

People have died in the streets from ICE without reasonable investigation. Your ineptitude to hold your administration accountable -both sides- is being studied across Europe and Asia in a manner not seen since the late 1940's examination of the Nazi's grasp over the will of it's people.

You have girls hiding up in attics - just like Anne Frank.

You are disgusting. You make us sick.

u/su6oxone 10h ago

You should blur kids faces man.

u/wd26 10h ago

Dog, this is a photo of a historic moment that took place 25 years ago. The kids are long grown.

u/ZweitenMal 10h ago

They’re 30 years old.

u/su6oxone 9h ago

No shit.

u/rdtdave 9h ago

Have you taken your suboxone today

u/su6oxone 7h ago

Hmm that must be why my clothes are soaked and I'm shivering.

u/AnotherPersonPerhaps 9h ago

Social media has really rotted our brains hasn't it

u/DAmest1 5h ago

I think the commenter did something apparently called a ”joke“.
