They do make those specifically for this purpose. Not sure about fish food but they dissolve pretty quick. I would assume he used them yeah

Could be made of polyvinyl alcohol, usually used in such products. And guess what, it's a microplastic!

I saw a mini golf course once where the final hole led to the sea and there were schools of fish hanging about to eat the golf balls, it's definitely a thing.
22
u/Inevitable-Ad6647 Jul 17 '26
I don't know about fish food but cruise ships do this with balls made of chalk, pva glue and gliceryn. All pretty harmless things that either biodegrade or are just a natural mineral.
You'd have a tough time upsetting at ecosystem with them without a literal truck load.

They do make biodegradable golf balls meant to end up in the ocean. Some are even made of compressed fish food or crushed shells. Whether these are truly that type, who knows.

Not for nothing, I just saw a clip of Jason Alexander being interviewed. They handed him that speech cold. He memorized it and what we're looking at on the show is a rehearsal.
Just in case you thought Jason Alexander wasn't insanely talented.
29
u/patricksaurus Jul 16 '26
Jerry has said in interviews that the awed face he makes in that scene is because of how floored he was by Jason’s perfect delivery.
It makes one of the most iconic scenes from an iconic show that much better.

I’ll be sad when there’s a generation that don’t get that reference. I hope that time never comes. Seinfeld is hands down the best television show ever made and it’s not even close. I love the sopranos and breaking bad but Seinfeld is #1 in my book.

u/TheBigC87 Jul 16 '26
Yeah, but he's Norwegian. Their culture frowns on people who litter and are not enviromentally conscious. We should have more of that in America.

Isn’t this likely a commercial use thing he’s doing? Wouldn’t shock me if a boat rental that has clubs and a driving mat also has bio balls for use
5
u/atherton-loyola Jul 16 '26
Video was on bleacher report IG, caption mentioned Haaland say these were biodegradable golf balls.
If they are the Ecobioballs (biodegradable outer layer with fish food at the core), not too expensive. Roughly $200 for a 100 balls.

→ More replies (5)5
u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 Jul 16 '26
I believe this is just a specific golf ball made with this specific purpose.
Performance golf balls absolutely do not have fish food in the middle and they are not biodegradable. These are the most common golf balls you’ll find.

I've worked with a lot of African dudes who will absolutely tell you how much nicer people are here than most other places in the world. We suck for a lot of reasons, but it always cracks me up that people act like we're any more racist than any of the rest of the world. I work with a lot of Canadians who don't get the same rep and are 100% just as racist.

If you in the position of smacking the golf balls off your yacht, id say you can afford it
4
u/PeakWattage Jul 16 '26
They're 149 euros for 100 balls. Not cheap by any means, but it's cheaper than shooting guns or going to Top Golf, which plenty of middle class Americans do. As far as a yacht trip goes, just tell the owner, "You got a boat, I got a throat."
2
u/bbqnj Jul 16 '26
That’s noticeably cheaper then REAL golf balls and people are acting like that would be worse for some reason
