Thanks for all the support im good 💪🏽. First of all I disagree with the Dr stoppage I felt perfectly fine, I was asked to stand still and not move so I complied. This was my first fight with u/tuffnuff I gave the upmost respect to the cage Dr and ref like I was told to do so in the rules meeting. Arguing, emotions, and reacting were the last things on my mind as I was in the zone and wanted to start round 3 to get the finish. I was answering all her questions and in a timely manner. I controlled the whole fight on the ground and landed heavy shots in the second round I felt I had my opponent finished at the end of the second round he looked gassed as he was going to his corner and I was focused on trying to get round 3 started. This is why the stoppage was controversial in my opinion because I had already showed I was coherent and dominating the fight. We're not playing pickle ball here this is a contact sport. The ref called the cage dr in for the cut on my eyebrow that was visibly not bleeding so that's what I thought she was in there for. I wish the Dr. Would of spoken to me more instead of smiling for the camera, when I saw her smiling I thought I was good to go and then next thing I see is the ref calling it. I was in shock and surprised at that point. After in the back with the other Drs I was told I passed the ocular test. TuffNuff sent me to hospital to get scans as a precaution (always appreciate ppl looking out for you) scans came out normal and clear.
Lessons learned next time I'll show more emotions. Not my best performance but I feel they should of gone to score cards I was dominating the fight. He threw everything he had at me and I kept coming forward and that's why they call me

Very similar thing happened to Chelsea's former team doctor Eva Carneiro. Hazard went down on the pitch with a head injury. She rushed on to help as she is required to do. Hazard had to come off for a minute per the rules. Manager gets pissed and eventual results in her being fired.
She sued the shit out of them and won a huge payday.
Why would you mention the boxer that was undoubtedly the bext boxer ever to avoid getting hit. The guy got hit once or 2ce a fight with a big hit while a lot of people eat them all day
Boy, if I had a penny for every time I gave medical advice and said advice was ignored only to see the same person again in my ED 45 minutes later for the same problem I could pay off my remaining 60k in student loans that I’ve paid 60k on for my initial 60k loan while being accused of pushing big pharmaceutical companies untested vaccines that make the friggin frogs gay and turn you transgender, oh and I have to walk all the way to the cafeteria to get you that sandwich after 7pm because management won’t pay for the sandwiches to be delivered to the unit and to show how serious they are they disconnected the units refrigerator.
yup i was a paramedic for many years, and ive seen some beauties as im damn sure you have. My favorite was a guy who originally came in drunk with a broken radius and ulnar fracture, we never even got to xray to see how bad, his buddy dropped a 45 pound plate edge down from like 8 feet high and he was supposed to catch it with one hand ( stupid bet), well it hit him halfway up tot he elbow. just brilliant, looked to me like multiple breaks. anyway hes slightly beligerent, and demanding just a brace, and to be released, well we waited for him to sober up more to the point even the cops were like, yeah hes in his right mind, so the ER doc and myself im holding this guys arm and the doc winks at me and applies the brace as tight as fast as he can, the scream that guy let out, was , well it was loud. he signs out AMA, and is back in less than 15 minutes he didnt even make it home. turns out he had to go to surgery as he had like 4 pieces in there.
Should of. Twice. And this guy makes more in 15 minutes than I do in a year... But I guess it is entertaining watching people give each other brain damage.
I’d assume fighters would have an inherent distrust of doctors and their assessments. They devote a lot of time and attention to their bodies and their fitness in order to fight, which makes them feel pretty in-control of their own health.
Which means that, when a doctor tells them they have a medical condition that they can’t deal with in their own way, they instinctively dismiss it as the opinion of someone who doesn’t understand them and their body.
IIRC we had a lot of folks like that who were hesitant to take the Covid vaccine. Not because they didn’t believe in covid or in medicine, per se. But because they felt that they were healthy enough to deal with it if they got sick (now how that works, but I’m saying it was how a community of people felt).
You’d think a guy named El Zombie who gets punched in the head by professional fighters for a living and just got punched in the head by a professional fighter would be smarter than this.
I think he's saying that his dazed, empty look also contributed to her decision. Perhaps why she wanted to check for brain damage when she was there for a cut.
Either way, better to be safe and stop the fight. They can always fight again.
They say dont judge a book by its cover but he doesn’t look too bright😩 the constant brain damage from a young age probably didnt help. It was the insinuating that the doctor did it for anything but his health that pissed me off. Yea I get it your mad it got called off in your opponents favor but acting like she did it for limelight for herself or to help the enemy is insane. Typical all brawn no brain with this one.

If commotion protocols have been reinforced in several contact sports over years there are a whole truck of good reasons.
Yeah the whole scene around this sport is kinda full of toxic idiots.
Woman wearing scrubs = must be a nurse.
I feel fine = must mean no underlying issues.
There is a saying in medicine "it's the 2nd concussion that kills you" if you've suffered any form of brain injury if you suffer further trauma before it's had a chance to heal the damage is going to be significantly worse and almost always results in permanent damage.
Kinda disgusting how ungrateful he is to someone that not only was just doing their job, but saved his life, also saved him from life changing injuries by intervening early.
I started doing marital arts recreationally in 2009. By 2018 or so I was done with the scene because all the Karate Kid era self-discipline and improvement folks had been replaced by UFC tough guy shitheads. COVID caused huge turnover in all of these disciplines (like it did in a ton of hobbies) and I am sure it's even worse now.
As a ringside physician in an amateur league, I thank you for putting this into words. My experience is pretty much what you describe. At least most of the refs understand it and usually support your decisions without any issue. They sometimes suspect neurological deficit before I do because they have known some fighters for a long time, have a good understanding of the kinetik energy involved and watch the fight from very close. The coaches/friends are usually the worst.
My husband likes to volunteer as a ringside physician during some kids boxing and judo tournaments and it’s amazing how many times he has to stop a fight due to something like this and the parents/crowd get pissed off and want it to continue.
Its kind of nuts. Like if you take the child out now, you can potentially let that child fight more fights. If you don't, child may end up still losing to a knockout, and future harm or death due to a acute health issue.
People are dumb. Nothing more important in youth sports than winning! It's not like basically every kid will fail to develop into a pro and they're actually there to learn about teamwork and sportsmanship and get some physical activity.
Oh, they'll still fight just as many fights. Its just that it end with them becoming a family annihilator 30 years later, instead of like, an investment banker. CTE is insidious.
I don’t think they can conceptualize that far ahead. They want their kid to win now, faster and more often. There’s an unfortunately large number of parents who encourage fighting on the ice in hockey and giving headshots, or football players getting run over multiple times are told to shake it off. It’s obviously super unhealthy but there’s a lot of competition in kids’ sports.
The parents living vicariously through their kids and letting their insecurities impact their kids, the other kids and the tournament officials or game referees who are often volunteers and often just teenagers themselves is very sad. Teaching humbleness in victory and graciousness in defeat would be nice.

Fun fact those metal circle things were basically flashlights before flashlights. Their purpose was to reflect light so that the doctor could see, for example if a pupil was dilating correctly.
My friend Greg has been getting shit his whole life from his father in law over this.
He scored 97th percent overall in the MCATs, but chose nursing because he wanted to focus 100% on patient care rather than the administrative bureaucracy, commercialism and paperwork of being a physician.
It's not a question on whether nurses can recognize things - it's just not who is doing it in a professional fight like this. That states that sanction these MANDATE there be a doctor there to do this.
I was a nurse, I’m now a nurse practitioner. Specifically as a nurse I worked in neuro. This is not a nurse making this observation or the decision. In the hospital a nurse sees these symptoms and goes and gets a doctor
I see a lot of DR’s after some injuries caused me some pretty serious health problems the last few years. My absolute favorite Dr is a woman, not only is she one of the smartest DR’s I’ve seen/had…she’s also the most honest and genuinely really seems to care about my health and happiness and wellbeing. She’s a Neurologist at that, not even just a normal Doctor.
This is why I can’t watch straight up combat sports as I get older. It’s not enjoyable for me to watch people try to actively injure each other. It’s just a bummer to me lol. Like football and rugby are brutal but at least the hope is that nobody gets excessively injured.
I just don’t like watching someone who is a son/daughter/husband whatever get their shit rocked.
I always tried to divorce the “sport” from the carnal nature of combat arts, but as I get older I feel you. The layman wants to see red, enjoys watching the life being reduced by another man’s hands. Thats why many find boxing boring, especially the more defensive chess match kinds of matches. I wont lie—I don’t love watching a Mayweather jab parry parry pull out for 12 rounds, but that’s “sport” to me. Knowing how mentally broken many of these athletes become after their careers, I find it more sad than entertaining when someone is knocked out cold
The damage they endure is pretty insane but I respect how much more honest it is. Conversations around US football for example kind of just gloss over the brain damage part. In combat sports pretty much everyone knows what's happening to these people.
I used to participate in mma, never competed but loved training. I always referred to it as truly brutal. A game where the only objective is to make another person’s brain shut off, or cause so much pain they quit.
I’ve lost the stomach for watching it. It was my favorite thing for many years, but eventually it just wasn’t worth it. Too many fighters are awful people, too many promoters are scum. It’s really just a rotten situation that relies on desperate people to risk their lives for entertainment and a chance at financial security.
I like MMA too and i know some cool guys who do as well, but still, whenever i see that someone is a UFC fighter, promoter or fan, i just assume they're an asshole. I'm right more often than i am not.

I went to a UFC event near my town some years ago. They were indeed some of the trashiest people I’ve ever had the displeasure of being around.
One of the fighters (Anthony Pettis) ended up tapping out because he had suffered a cracked rib. The fans were complete animals about it… yelling shit like “fucking pussy!” and other nonsense like that.
Part of what turned me completely from the UFC. Well- that and Dana’s complete support of a total fascist.
Career ender to call a fight too fast, we've all seen people screw up like that in sports. He's asking for confirmation, he's totally willing to call it he just wants to be sure himself, which means making sure he's hearing her right
Like confirming shes not talking to herself, speaking rhetorically or whatever. Its not a problem to double check provided its not a pressure to reconsider

Everyone, including the crowd, was reacting with the best information they had at the time.
The physician had more information than the crowd- and the stoppage was necessary and appropriate.
The physician was initially called for a cut, so that is what the crowd was expecting a ruling on. Ends up, he didn't get past a check for head injury- so there is no continuing.
The crowd saw a fighter, who was winning the match, lose due to being unable to continue, who appeared from a 20' distance clearly ready and able to continue.
Crowd boo'd because they didn't understand the details, not because they want a fighter to die in front of them.
I am registered nurse and I’m a MMA fan too. That nurse was in the complete right. The light check exam is called PERRLA. (Pupils, Equal, Round, Reactive, to Light, with Accommodation). Nonreactive PERRLA is very dangerous. It is a sign of increased cranial pressure. It’s probably form the direct trauma of fighting obviously, but untreated this guy could have a stroke and have chronic issues, it could be brain bleed, we can’t rule that out without imaging, he could have pressure on his optic cranial nerve, which means he could go blind. This is an emergency. Good nurse, stupid crowd.
Edit: wow this chain blew up. Since everyone I mentioning it, yes I see now she is a doctor DO. The title said nurse so I thought she was that’s my mistake.
He didn't have intracranial hypertension though. If your pupils are no longer reacting you're probably about to die, and your GCS would be a 5 or 6 at best. She was checking for pupil reaction under bright lights when they were likely already very constricted.
I've only had 2 instances where someone failed PERRL. 1 was a hockey concussion - where the left pupil was almost twice the size of the right. The other was a motorcycle accident where the pupils were pinpoints and not reactive to light.
Pupils equal, round, reactive to light and accommodation is the new abbreviation (pupils accommodate when looking at a close object vs a far object). I think it has been part of the abbreviation for the last decade because we learned it with the A added in PA school
Why the fuck is she a nurse? It takes one braincell worth of common sense to realize women can and are doctors as well and that fighting orgs are not gonna have a nurse doing this shit but a full fledged Doctor.
I've realized there's two types of people in combat/martial art sports. Ones who enjoy it as skilled competition and ones who enjoy brutality. Only one type seems to care for the well being of the athletes/fighters.
