Video Dad handled both sides of the situation. The kid threw the ball and Dad quietly stepped in to handle everything. Peak dad mode at the ballpark.

Thats a good dad, he knew his youngest didn't understand and that his oldest did. tough spot to be in but he did a great job.

u/cuddle_enthusiast 18h ago
He was really trying not to laugh too much. Sometimes can’t do anything but laugh.

The first time my daughter cussed was one of the hardest moments for me not to laugh
22
u/Shovelman2001 16h ago
My mom let me say "what the heck" but was never thrilled about it. I learned about "what the hell" somehow, and was under the impression that it was the nicer version of "what the heck". We were in the drop off line at school and I said "what the hell" for whatever reason, and she pulled out of that line like she was in a damn police chase. Bitched me out for like 5 minutes and I was sobbing like "I'm sorry, I didn't know it was bad😭". Ended up being late for school, which she was always fervently against, so I knew I fucked up LOL

u/MaxHeadroom1986 14h ago
I used to argue with my family that the meaning they assign to words is their problem to deal with and if I want to say shit damn I can because I made up different words. My sister does a skit when she makes fun of it. She goes, "Mother, you would strike me down for sins you created? You would harm the soul of your only male heir for committing treason against a false monarch?" and then she points at me and goes, "that was you"

My mom used to laugh her ass off because I said it like “what the hail”. Like a decade and a half later and she still asks me to say it like that again for laughs.

u/8amteetime 17h ago
I did laugh the first time my young son said shit. He looked at me with huge eyes and thought he was in big trouble.
I said that’ll be enough of that, kiddo.
He apologized and said he was sorry he said a bad word.→ More replies (1)5

My kid went through what we now refer to as his “Samuel L Jackson phase” when he was about 2 1/2. Took everything in my soul not to laugh.

My friend's oldest, like 11 now, when she was 4 or 5 her dad was complaining about his boss after work and his daughter chimed in with "I think he's a fucking dumbass". Mom was the one to be "Now honey those aren't words we use" etc etc cause he was red-faced trying not to laugh, knowing that it was his wife that taught their daughter those words 2 days ago when she was cut off in traffic.
While "fucking dumbass" is obviously something you wanna put the brakes on, it's interesting thinking back to school and teachers ran the gambit from "sucks" instead of "stinks" was unacceptable, to my 8th grade computer lab teacher who didn't think "pissed" was a curse and would only give you a warning for "damn" or "ass", to the high school metals teacher that would use "shit" frequently and "fuck" sparingly.
3
u/Will_Stick40 16h ago
When mine did. I asked "in what context did she use it?" My daughter will not cuss and sound stupid! When i heard she used it properly. I corrected her. And was proud!
3
u/Tassiegirl 14h ago
When my teenaged oldest accidentally swore in front of me, they were o-0 (I don’t know how else explain it). I laughed and said to be aware of whom they’re swearing in front of. Parents= OK. GPs, not so much.

This is a metaphor for being a parent with multiple kids.

No it’s not a metaphor, it’s literally a parent parenting multiple kids

Eh there’s no larger system unless you’re talking about parenting is a whole. I think you just wanted to use a big word.

Except for the fact that his youngest child is addicted to his phone.

u/theknight200200 15h ago
It's unfair to judge moments like this where we don't know the context, the younger brother probably has no interest in the game outside of the ballpark either. I probably wouldn't have taken my kid to an event they won't enjoy in the first place, but I mean if he's gonna bring him, why torture him by making him watch when he can be happy and entertain himself instead?

That young man is going to hold that over his brother's head for the rest of his breathing days. It will be replayed, retold, and rehashed at family holiday dinners, his wedding, and when he takes HIS kid to a ball game. He will never escape it. At least, that's how it would have played out in my family. Poor kid.

I have a 4 and an 8 year old and holy crap I pray I never let them get addicted to phones like so many parents have. We let them look at family pictures and videos on them, sometimes, and that’s it. There’s a whole damn world out there.
We’ve brought them to full football and soccer games. They get antsy sometimes but you handle it as the moment demands.

i'd wager this kid ruins his stuff all the time, and the parents just want him to suck it up because he is older.

My favorite Reddit genre is the people running around projecting their unresolved trauma onto everything
3
u/jackaroo1344 12h ago
I bet the younger brother chewed on his older brother's Princess of Peru Barbie so her hands and feet were all ruined with bite marks in them and that Boston dad said it was fine and the doll could still be played with but it wasn't fine because she had special shoes and bracelets to wear that no longer fit on her flattened mangled hands and feet and even when he tried to explain that to his parents they didn't take it seriously at all even though that doll had been a gift from his best friend who moved away so it was special and now every time he played with her little bits of chewed up plastic crumbled off her feet and he got all over again.
Anyway I bet that happened in that family for sure.

In case you didn't know the Red Socks team staff and broadcasters visited the brothers in their seats, rewarding Charlie with extra baseballs and giving Jack an autographed Kenley Jansen jersey.

I cannot stand the Screen Children epidemic. Parents just shoving a tablet or a phone in front of their young kids faces instead of parenting.
Guarantee that's part of what made the older brother so upset: little brother doesn't care about anything that isn't on that damn phone he's got glued to his hand.

u/Jajay5537 14h ago
This is why you should not let the kid that has 0 interest in the sport that you're attending. Continue to go with them. Don't make it required "man activities" let people have separate interest. Not all girls want to go to get makeup. Not all boys like the same sports as you. When there is one child that does want to go encourage the one who takes it seriously. Don't inadvertently punish the other who couldn't care less. Lol
