I think they must mean male, because Venus, Serena, Sloane, Coco have all been there. Plus Taylor in doubles.

Reddit really cares about diversity boxes being checked, even if it takes the whitest "black" guy out there

So, does this have to happen every time a black American wins?

why can't he just be an American who reached the finals?

It's meant to piss off those wimpy white supremacists.

u/BeautifulWay2881 54m ago
Im pretty pro White and he's basically White, most of his genetics are White.
1
u/Round_Ad_6369 2h ago
I think it just pisses everyone off because doesn't look like he's ever been in the same room as a black person
1
u/Not_a_cultmember 1h ago
So, you're judging him by the color of his skin?
1
u/Round_Ad_6369 1h ago
I'm comparing the color of his skin to the statement that he's black
1
u/Not_a_cultmember 1h ago
So, he's not black enough to justify hating him?
1
u/Round_Ad_6369 27m ago
He's too white passing to even be considered black unless told. Are you done trying to pull some gotcha? Tell me you would call him a black man if you had to describe him.
1
u/Not_a_cultmember 19m ago
I'm not calling him anything. I'm just curious why only white folks are upset by this.

As a blackman I hate to gate keep but like come on....

I love black gatekeepers.
Its so funny that these people grow up with the stigma of a black parent and are most likely rejected as a white person. Then also get demolished by the black community if anyone mentions they are black. Brutal.
Luckily if this kid made it this far in tennis his parents are probably top 5 percent income so hes likely set either way

I really wanna see the pedigree on this man. It's like when the whitest guy you've ever seen goes "I'm 1/128th sioux on my mother's side"
1
u/Ok_Living_96 1h ago
Yeah, I agree. We should be doing genetic testing on these people. Right?
0
u/Round_Ad_6369 1h ago
Totally. We could also start measuring cranial ratios and euthenizing anyone outside of parameters

I think that if you are talking about the historical significance of something like this, it is proper to use the historical standard. 200 years ago, he would have absolutely been considered less than a full man and likely a slave. If he were raised alongside my father, he would have been legally barred from all of the places my father was growing up in the south.

Let’s talk about all the black Americans that didn’t make the US Open final due to a lack of funding and other race-based issues. I mean, if you’re starting the discussion based on race, then keep it there so we can avoid patting our nation on its back because one slipped through the obstacles.

Yes, Tennis, Golf and Baseball are all money centric sports. There are also tons of white kids that cannot afford the privilege of learning and playing these sports from a young age. For Golf, you basically have to be a country club kid, which is an insanely small percentage of people. Boiling everything down to racism is so silly.

u/Low-Set8263 44m ago
Exactly. I would love to talk about redlining, shiat public spending etc but in this country it’s slice and dice the nation into easier to manipulate groups.

He's black?
I'm black?
I'll give you a couple of minutes to decide.

He's as much white as black. Has he said what race if any he identified as?

He looks mixed.
Media puts a lot of emphasis on being the first black this or that…
Even Obama isn’t black. He has a white mama.
Interracial is more unifying than making everything about one race or another.

u/fieldsports202 2h ago
I mean…. It was white people who created the one stop rule in America back in the day. They determined if you had a single black ancestor than you were considered black.

u/PositiveVibrationzzz 45m ago
Ok so why is it pro-black people seem to be the ones using it in modern America? We can all agree that the one drop rule was insane and racist and now people are using it to say this guy is black when he's just as white as he is black.

As long as race is mentioned and used for comparison on everything , there will always be racism

His dad is black. Why is everyone saying he isn't?
"he doesn't look black"
That's never how it's worked in America.
