Also a lot of people from my side of Ireland, once they've met some hardcore unionists, get a bit wary of the idea of giving them seats in the Dail.
Irish Reunification doesn't really solve the underlying social problem, it just shifts it to the other side of the border.
Frankly the best solution we had was EU integration, so both communities could live as though they were part of the either country and there wasn't really much difference, but obviously we had to go and pointlessly tear that up.

Membership or not, it doesn’t change anything about the rights of NI. If you’re born in NI, you get both a British and Irish passport, you can live and work anywhere on the island you want (or EU for that matter).

A United Ireland sounds lovely
But if you’ve any experience of NI, you know it’s still a deeply divided place, and seemingly we enjoy it that way as we’ve done next to nothing since given the opportunity of a peace settlement to create true and lasting reconciliation.
How people look at NI in 2026 and see towering walls splitting communities, segregated schooling, attempted bombings, riots, glorification and justification of innocent civilian murderers and the occasional sectarian attacks.
It makes absolutely no sense to me once so ever, that we would be mature enough to handle unification, if we can’t even handle basic cooperation.

For the most part UK governments would much rather the North was the problem of the government of the Republic of Ireland not them and bitterly regret that Churchill’s 1940 proposal was turned down.
