Yeah I took a look to see how they would spin this, was pleasantly surprised to see most of them condemning it and outright saying they are sick of this guy. Then I saw the Mamdani thread and all hope went out the window. Apparently they think he's in support of "4th trimester abortions" and "chopping off childrens' genitals" all while secretly being happy that 9/11 happened. The propaganda machine is printing faster than the Federal Reserve at this point.

I don't know what's more obvious here: how unimaginably stupid Trump is, or how utterly naive he thinks his supporters must be, which is clearly the case because the most outspoken members of his base are eating this up…
It's not surprising... I mean, what do you expect from someone whose only recourse is to bribe, bully and extort their way out of difficult situations?
Meanwhile, those same supporters are still waiting on their tariff-funded rebate checks, their DOGE dividends, their health care plan “in two weeks”, their 10% middle class tax cut, their $2 gas prices, their border wall paid for by Mexico, etc, alongside a host of other promises that were never delivered upon.
And even if I were to humor this latest charade from Trump, the cost of such a senseless proposal would be so massive that it would further destabilize the economy and only exacerbate the financial struggles that Americans are facing as a result of Trump's policies.
NOT TO MENTION the fact that tariff revenues wouldn't even account for a fraction of the cost of this absurd cash-for-votes scheme. And this is NOT what tariffs are used for!!!
Injecting this much money into the economy would accelerate inflation and raise interest and mortgage rates substantially to the point of offsetting the benefits of the checks and THEN SOME.
It would spike the national debt and interest payments that would last long after the checks are spent…
It would only push fuel prices higher due to extra consumer demand during an oil shock and global energy crisis caused by Trump himself.
Then there's the issue of how to enforce it, which Trump clearly didn't think about.
Much of what Americans buy with the added cash will not be restricted to domestic spending. Meaning that foreign importers would see the benefits.
And need I remind everyone that it wasn't too long ago when Trump supporters were railing against excessive government spending, and that this is an insanely expensive way to make life even less affordable for struggling households?
What does all of this explanation matter? Trump is full of shit anyways, and clearly has no understanding of economics. Either that or he just doesn't care about the repercussions. That's his M.O. after all, short term gimmicks over long term solutions. It's the publicity that matters, not whether he’ll actually follow through.

I listed out several major campaign promises he made and demonstrated how they weren't close to being reality yet. My question was removed for being "loaded".

And aren’t the tariffs also going to increase prices as companies that used to save cost by getting raw materials at a very good rate or or were able to produce products where it was more logical to produce them are now going to require satellite manufacturing in three different countries instead of one and the discount on raw materials will evaporate?
