Discussion I have beaten the game. Here are my thoughts.

Post image

Photo attached for proof.

This game sucks.

The combat is so shallow, there is no room for creativity. You parry, you stun, you barrage, you special attack. Over and over again. Any variety in combat comes solely from the combat finishers. Granted there’s a good amount of those, but you have zero say in what finisher animation you’ll even get. It’s totally random.

The level design is incredibly linear. There’s absolutely zero exploration, which is fine in character action/hack and slash games, but again, the combat is not complex enough to warrant such linear levels. Devil May Cry this is not.

The only side content are “nightmare doors”. These provide 2 kinds of challenges. Traversal and, you guessed it, more fucking shallow combat. There’s not even any traversal tools. No double jump, no wall running, no air dodging, nothing. The traversal “challenges” amount to holding the sprint button and just hitting jump as Wolverine magnetizes to the nearest zipline or ledge

The skill tree is also so incredibly basic, I don’t even know why it exists. Skills gradually unlock throughout the story, and so there were many times I had skill points to use but literally couldn’t even spend them because I had already unlocked all available skills, and needed to wait to advance the story to unlock more skills.

Then there’s adaptations. A tree where you can unlock and equip a set amount of passive abilities . I honestly don’t have much to speak on that, because they’re so fucking pointless I forget their existence about halfway through the game.

All collectibles, and “hidden” chests, stare you right in the face, you can’t miss them even if you tried.

I will say though, the story was pretty good, and I thought the actors knocked their performances out of the park, but nowhere close to being good enough to redeem this game.

Bottom line, this is the first Insomniac game I have been disappointed by, and I’m old enough to remember playing Spyro on the PS1. I mean, massive disappointment.

This game sucks.

It's bloody strange because the leaked/ stolen builds that people had got playable were a completely different game. You used the triggers for left and right hands, and you could swap between claws and fists. And somehow we ended up with push square to do everything and a story like hancock?

Edit: unironically a mix between the game they were originally making, with a parry system like onimusha would have gone so hard.

95

u/sordidaffair 9h ago

I heard from a source they scrapped everything 18 months ago and started over. The outcome that we have on display here shows exactly that, a brutal and short dev cycle.

22

u/Hour-Drama-8181 9h ago

Any chance they said why they scrapped it?

45

u/Berrggyy 9h ago

I read a comment that was saying a bunch of the development convos got leaked but apparently it was accessibility issues.  The claws were based off the amount the triggers were pressed down, but accessibility controllers only have on or off triggers.  Then they tried to make a button version of the combat that would work with th we controllers and it just didn’t feel good so they scrapped the whole thing.

Here is a post about it all

https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1vplboa/marvels_wolverine_almost_had_a_crossbow_adaptive/

u/paycadicc 7h ago

Damn the trigger system and the fully destructible environment sounded cool as fuck. I’m not even the target audience for this game but might’ve bought it if it had that and was good lol

12

u/Berrggyy 6h ago

I’m surprised they didn’t keep the environments at the very least.  That almost seems like a no brainer I don’t know who wouldn’t enjoy that.

2

u/SirjackofCamelot 2h ago

It probably messed with the optimization of the game.

At least that is my first thought but....im not good at coding, i only got a C in that class 😭

5

u/JetpacksWasYes-2 2h ago

No excuses for the amount of money they poured into this game. They could've EASILY optimized it. They had time. But they decided to backpedal to please investors.

That’s an insane way to make games, I worked in both games/media and healthcare with multidisciplinary teams of developers and occupational therapists. I know a thing or two about UX and accessibility and have never heard about development like this.

24

u/Rude-Mind-8730 8h ago

Lol if true, kinda shits all over everyone who say accessibility options dont hurt video games.

32

u/jakonfire 7h ago

If someone can beat Elden ring with breath controls insomniac can make accessibility an option.

3

u/Ok_Dependent6889 1h ago

Yeah, didn’t need to be like this though. They’re absolutely right.

The trigger system sounds great. Okay, so you make an accessibility mode that changes it.

Instead, like many other developers, they just catered specifically to that edge case and ruined gameplay options for those who don’t need extra devices.

38

u/Hot_Weekend9969 7h ago

That’s a dumb take. There’s this magical thing called a toggle that developers discovered decades ago. Insomniac’s refusal to use it is their mistake.

5

u/Berrggyy 6h ago

Missing the point, they couldn’t find a way to make the accessibility version of the combat good, so they scrapped the whole idea instead of making two separate combat systems.  That is the story from leaks apparently.

13

u/Hot_Weekend9969 6h ago

You’re equating choosing to not do something with not being able to. The solution was having two systems and letting you toggle. Not having time to do that because it was a last minute issue isn’t accessibility’s fault. It’s the developers fault.

4

u/cpowe1 5h ago

It kind of is though. They didn’t have the time to properly make an accessible version of what was apparently a more engaging combat system and so their response was to completely scrap the more in depth combat for “Press 🟪 to attack”.

Assuming the reports on the old combats are true than having to make an accessible version completely fucked this game. If your game doesn’t have exploration or depth, you need to have combat that is engaging and this killed the game.

7

u/hates_stupid_people 5h ago

They had the time, they didn't have the skill and they'd apparently wasted the budget and couldn't hire someone with the skill.

I doubt it's true because you could simply have the original combat and then change it with an accessibility toggle. Sounds like people just wanting to shit on progressive stuff.

→ More replies (11)

2

u/Berrggyy 7h ago

I could see it being true, I could also see it part of it being that the original combat system idea wasn’t working perfectly.  Probably just more of a kill two birds with one stone, but maybe to late in the development cycle to design a new system that’s actually engaging.

2

u/SomeCrows 1h ago

They don't. Accessibility can fit into anything, they chose to water down the combat system because they didn't want to / couldn't do the work to make it function, and that's a damn shame.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Virtual_Bug_723 3h ago

This document does not say "accessibility issues," it says "accessibility, responsiveness, and scope"

Accessibility combined with those two other things sounds like accessibility is being used as a scapegoat. "Responsiveness" means the feature wasn't as responsive as they wanted it to be, and "scope" means money and time invested.

Any bullet point that includes "scope" means "we're cutting this to save money and reduce development time," and you should assume that is the most important reason.

7

u/LordVivecIsMyWaifu 7h ago

The current game has accesibility for one handed kindergarten children with learning issues

That would explain some of it, definitely seemed like alot of development problems internally

Seriously though, the idea that leaks could "ruin" a game and end up getting it canceled just because it messes up plans or people complain that unfinished gameplay looks bad just shows how clueless these companies are

Something radical had to have happened either from insomniac or Sony. This feels like Gotham knights in the sense that it feels like the game was in “development” for a long time, but the game we got was rushed and put together in less than 2 years. No way THIS game took 5 years.

3

u/AtCarnage 5h ago

They clearly struggle post expansion. Quality has dipped massively after the Sony acquisition and the staff expansion. Not sure if it's a management or skill issue. Probably both. And this game seems to prove that there isn't an A-Team and a B-Team.

I’m not gonna buy this game , but I’m at the last boss of Onimusha. While Way of the sword starts off really good it gets an extremely tedious towards the end. The combat is also repetitive, not the same depth as DmC or Bayonetta . Map is boring , repetitive enemies and bosses , it’s like they tried to drag out a 6-10 hour game experience to 20h.

2

u/bramblebitch 6h ago

The constant chatter, puzzle and battle hints you can’t turn off, the fluff open world parts and the weird skill tree with a good bunch of useless unlocks don’t do it any favors either. Hate to be “that” kind of person but Onimusha feels very modern western open game, what’s going on at Capcom?

3

u/Casshern_VIII 3h ago

Useless unlocks? What are you on about, most unlocks in the skill tree are useful, you unlock the ishin skill that lets you chain take down multiple gemmas, with each upgrade letting you chain more and more. You get intimidation that lets you one shot terrified enemies, what crack pipe are you smoking?

Maybe that online shitstorm that happened due to the leaks forced management to enforce big changes in the last year or smth, idk, I haven’t played it so I don’t have opinion yet, but based on what I’ve seen and heard it doesn’t look like 300m AAA game from insomniac

Idk negative reception absolutely makes a difference and Wolverine isn’t Spiderman he’s not big enough to do big numbers off IP alone. I’ll be shocked if it sells well

5

u/Nervous_Sign2925 2h ago

Eh I don’t know about that. It’s got the Marvel name and the Insomniac name still that all the hyper casuals from spider man will recognize. And superheroes are still mega popular

SpiderMan was saved by the open world, especially the 2nd part, with no open world spider man would have had a very same issues that this game has, insomiancs needed a reality check and this will be the one

58

u/CapitalBudget3818 9h ago

Do you think insomniac will learn from this? I mean everybody criticized mj missions for example and the director said “i don’t care, we cut content to have mj missions”, genuily scared for spider-man 3 at this point

30

u/Palmdiggity888 9h ago

It's insane to think " you know know what would make this web swinging superhero game better? Playing as his normal human girlfriend to take the audience out of the story and not in any way be annoying or frustrating"

22

u/CapitalBudget3818 9h ago

Yeah and the insane thing to think about is that they basically cut a venom missions it seems, just to put more mj missions in it, genuine non sense

what if they just cancel spiderman 3 and make a MJ spinoff game where its just more MJ missions

10

u/CapitalBudget3818 9h ago

Mj missions where every mission is stealth with outdated mechanics that bores me after 2 seconds? I am all in for it, make it $80 too buying it full price! Cant Miss me a game of my favorite super hero.

3

u/ONE_BIG_LOAD 9h ago

$80?? I say we beat GTA 6's record too

3

u/BeansWereHere 9h ago

Even there normal stealth systems are completely outdated, the MJ missions have marginally less depth tbh.

2

u/Thundershaft69 7h ago

Yeah, I'll wait for the christmas sale though, when its $75.

4

u/MashedPotatoesPla 8h ago

And every few hours we’ll get a 20 minute spider man mission

4

u/Lambisexual 7h ago

It's a Spider-Man man game numbnuts. So clearly it should feature Peter Parker. That is, Peter Parker in his job at the Daily Bugle, doing paper work, and some part-time job as pizza delivery driver.

2

u/Ok_Seat_1016 1h ago

id enjoy delivering pizza as him and taking shots for the bugle way more than playing as MJ which is why i still play spiderman 2 and 3

SM2 was too short and lacking in content for two protagonists and the final act was rushed which makes the MJ missions even more dumb because the work could've gone to more side activities for Peter or more story missions for Miles.

If they want me buy with confidence they'd need to announce Peter and Miles are getting their separate games which honestly would make sense with how the game ended (next game should be SM:MM2 with Miles by himself during Peter's temporary retirement and followed SM3 with Peter and Green Goblin to cap it off).

9

u/Diligent-Neck6594 8h ago

The main dev of Spider-Man 2 came out and directly said they had to cut content to fit in the mj missions

he was also proud of this

6

u/Projectpatdc 8h ago

And they had to cut content to meet stupid deadlines. Just make the game you want until it’s fucking ready. Stop pushing out empty, shallow games with cut content

2

u/jerem1734 8h ago

That's because insomniac went over budget and over time. Sony told them they're not giving them more budget/time so insomniac had to release what they could

2

u/Projectpatdc 8h ago

And Sony gets to enjoy another flop. If Laufey somehow fails, that’s three major 1st party games in a year.

3

u/jerem1734 8h ago

Spider-man 2 didn't flop, it's sold like 18M copies

3

u/Projectpatdc 8h ago

Referring to Wolverine; my bad. Sony already lost a lot of money this year with Marathon

2

u/jerem1734 8h ago

No worries, idk if Wolverine will flop due to the ip attached although they've probably isolated marvel fans with the story

My only concern with laufey is if they bring her back to life

To be honest, the final act of Spider-man 1 also felt a tad rushed, so I guess it's a tradition.

Wish we got standalone bosses with each of the Sinister Six, rather than the quick team-ups of Scorpio + Rhino and Shocker + Vulture.

5

u/ScarletJack 9h ago

Currently playing through spider-man 2 for the first time. Currently at the part where Peter takes a nap and venom crashes out. Genuinely, this game shouldn't have two spider-men. I'm sitting here wanting to do more with either character, and can't. Miles barely has main missions for himself. Peter barely has side content. I want to do cool missions with the symbiote. The negative zappy shit for miles is cool, but it's not a symbiote.

At most, I feel like if peter was the main guy and miles was there as like... A replacement for MJ missions? That would be cool. But two main characters just splits up the content too much in a game that desperately needs more content.

2

u/No_Definition4241 6h ago

Remember when there was a whole section of Peter cycling through the park? Like what the fuck! Peter's sections in SM1 were limited to FEAST and Otto for the most part. Each of those built up Peter's character and the supporting cast in subtle ways if the player wanted to engage in it.

Hell even MJ's infiltration of Norman's penthosue was interesting because of the character building and the fact the location was really cool.

2

u/EatABag-o-Dicks 6h ago

Yeah, everyone was sucking off insomniac when it came out, and I just ended up platinuming it in like 25 hours. It was an insane disappointment, and I hate having trophy hunt cause I think they're stupid, but I did for this cause I felt like a jackass spending $60 for a 15 hour game.

6

u/Thaddeus_Valentine 8h ago

The funniest thing is they made her the best character for dealing with enemies, that antivenom gun could deal with them in one shot and yet as Spiderman you had to punch them about 20 times 😂 why didn't he just use the gun.

4

u/KratosSimp 8h ago

I genuinely don’t understand how someone that thinks like that was able to direct the game

3

u/GoGoGadgetGabe 8h ago

Well whether he cares or not doesn’t matter now. He’s getting his wake up call because with people cancelling pre-ordering or down right not buying it anymore and the poor reception from reviewers something will undoubtedly change at Insomniac and we’ll just have to wait to see if it’ll be good or bad.

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Lab2447 7h ago

Spidermab 3 is officially screwed dawg. Marvel better cancel it's contact with insomniac and hire a more competent and passionate company.

2

u/SquanchyJiuJitsu 4h ago

It depends how well the game does, in terms of game sales. They will be forced to learn the hard way if it flops. Or they will continue with their heads in the sand if the numbers hold up.

7

u/wetmeatlol 9h ago

I really am surprised they didn’t try to get a bit more creative with their combat. I know it’s all subjective, and people can find the spiderman combat fun but I’ve always thought it was rather dull…literally everything else about those games (especially the web mechanics) is what makes them so good.

To take literally all of that away and just leave their basic style of combat in the game is…a choice. I guess they thought simply playing as Wolverine would do a lot of heavy lifting.

6

u/Cautious-Affect7907 9h ago edited 9h ago

I think the gadgets and cool downs did all the heavy lifting for the spider man games. Cause when you actually look at the games base combat without them, it's really barebones.
There's not much you could do past your base combo and it's mostly just square square square

Like, Peter has this mechanical arms in his suit in the second game, yet they're only relegated to cooldown vs being part of his base combos.

5

u/wetmeatlol 9h ago

Yeah the gadgets are a big part of that “and everything else” in my comment, just second to the web mechanics. I think their combat style in general just works with spiderman, the spider sense dodging, the punching bag feeling when hitting enemies, etc just works for that character.

For a wolverine game I just don’t know. I’m hoping it’s at least way more satisfying/impactful to actually hit enemies in this game than spiderman, because you’re fucking Wolverine lol, but that is something that you need to actually play the game for yourself to see.

9

u/Soobloiter 9h ago

Spiderman 2 was a slog for me, especially the 2nd half. I 100%ed spiderman 1 but I couldn't with 2

Some of the fights genuinely made me want to quit because they felt so tedious

7

u/IIWhiteHawkII 9h ago

100%ed the first game and MM.

Dropped SM2 as soon as the game turned into gummy bear city simulator (3rd act) and never came back. This was already the first call that something’s very wrong with Insomniac.

IDK what I was hoping for with Wolverine… Cancelling pre-order right now.

Fuck thi pathetic studio that mocks my childhood heroes and thinks us, the players, are absolute degenerates.

I have to disagree. Spider-Man has a very solid and engaging combat loop. Plus traversal itself is incredible. Just swinging around is fun enough. You had tools, suit powers etc

3

u/Projectpatdc 8h ago

Swinging around isn’t fun for long if there’s barely anything to do in the open world.

2

u/Seanspeed 5h ago

Yep. Mechanics on their own are meaningless. It's the application of mechanics and how they intertwine with everything else that make them interesting or fun.

4

u/ExcellentPudding3559 6h ago

Spider-Man was never the masterpiece everyone has always phoned in. Everyone was gaslighted by the swinging, but it was eventually 'only' a solid game.

take away these bells and whistles and here you have Wolverine.

I saw how linear and basic the gameplay was in the reveal months ago. You can see the handholding and almost scripted encounters, from minor stealth into an ambush then a chase sequence with inconsequential QTEs.

2

u/jaymole 2h ago

u/Argon20021 8h ago

This is so weird to me especially considering how much I loved the combat in all the spiderman games

Like yeah it could get repetitive, but they had so many different combat moves, things to throw, ways to fight in air and on the ground etc, with really cool stories that I personally think used all the characters really well

Honestly from what I've seen it feels like they just didnt know what to do with the character, like surely they could have messed up just a fun hack and slash game so badly with the same budget

8

u/PCBuilderCat 2h ago

Honestly Wolverine has really exposed Insomniac

The worst part is, Rocksteady got this shit right nearly 20 years ago with the Arkham games. You can absolutely have a character who’s main offence is punching and still have it be engaging

13

u/xXWolfyIsAwesomeXx 8h ago

What I think is that they transitioned a lot of things that worked in the open world to this linear game. Collectibles pinging, little reminders, etc. Those work in a large world where it's easy to get sidetracked. But when there's only one way through a section, why does it feel the need to show us where EVERYTHING is?

It’s pretty interesting how combat mechanics and the loop can be perceived. There can be a game with a simple mechanic but the loop is so additive that you can play it over and over again for months.

007 First Light has a very addictive gaming loop where you’re in an environment and you have the agency to go stealth and fighting. And the combat has combos and variety.

Hades is a simple game, but there’s so much mechanics to it that the loop is so addictive. Same with Spider-Man it’s the same combat but it never gets stale because the game gives you options and variety.

And then you have Wolverine. I followed the leaks and the alpha combat was so much better. Claws binded to trigger, combos, adamantium covered weapons so the player would have to retract the claws and attack with bare hands.

This complete disaster is because of Insomniac, Sony and Marvel. I hope they take this learnings to Spider-Man 3.

3

u/_doyouthinkesaurus 55m ago

This is the first Insomniac Game created entirely post Sony acquisition and from what I’ve heard Sony was much more opinionated on this game and also started clamping down on budgets across the board after Last of Us II didn’t break even.

More on the exploration side of things, I'm worried from what I've heard that Madripoor is not even a hub you can come back to actually explore as I understand. Could you clear things up for me? I want to know about free roam during or after the story and what maps we can traverse. I know it's a very very linear game, but are we really stuck with whatever zone you are in depending where you are in progression of the story?

16

u/Upbeat_Shock_6807 8h ago

There is no free roam. Madripoor is just a level. You complete a level, and move on to the next. You can revisit levels, but you’re just replaying the level, story and all, from the beginning.

Thank you man. I cancelled my pre-order now. I will wait for a sale…

6

u/LiftsnFlics 9h ago

This gonna be a nice MKIceAndFire or RadBrad watch for a lunch break.

6

u/ToeCurlPOV 8h ago

Your 100% with only 20 hours on armored core genuinely makes me question how you experience the games you play 😂

Don’t even need DMC level of depth just a good slasher with combos and dismemberment like Ninja Gaiden 3RE (the weakest in the series btw) but no, we got a slow ass clunky button masher with 3-4 moves and 4-5 boring finishers.
This entire game looks like one of those ai videos where you watch the character do shit without pressing a button.
How was Onimusha for you?

14

u/Upbeat_Shock_6807 9h ago

Loved Onimusha. Top 5 game of the year for me so far. I’m on to Control Resonant now. (My brother is a game critic and he hooks me up)

3

u/TK7GRaY 9h ago

Well guess I’m getting Onimusha instead of Wolverine

3

u/hditzhak 9h ago

How is Control? I am waiting as well after the disappointment from Wolverine.

5

u/Fit-Student-2 8h ago

It's a great game even better if you pair it with the alan wake series

3

u/Upbeat_Shock_6807 9h ago

I just started it tonight, only played a couple hours so not much of an opinion yet. But it’s a trip and so far combat and movement is superb. Build variety also seems to be pretty in depth. Thinking Remedy cooked up something pretty special with this one, but we’ll see

Holy hell, just canceled my pre-order. Thanks OP for helping me dodge a bullet.

9

u/Nervous-Power-9800 7h ago

Cancelled my copy. Game sounds like ass.

2

u/Ps4_and_Ipad_Lover 3h ago

Ya guess I'm lucky they did not bother with a collector... I almost wonder if they knew it would be rated like this and that's why they decided on that

5

u/tds5126 2h ago

But according to the shills of this sub. Have you considered that the game actually sucking and treating the player as braindead is actually a good thing?

10

u/SeasOfBlood 9h ago

What did you think of Sabretooth's character? Did they write him quite well? He's my favorite villain, so if nothing else, I've been excited to see him in a video game!

6

u/ZamnBoii 8h ago

I have an early disc copy and holy shit Sabretooth is so fucking annoying in this game. Constantly screaming and constantly being an asshole to everyone, it gets so annoying that I was so happy he didn't show up in the entire middle chunk of the game.

9

u/Nero-Stark 8h ago

You know all you are saying might be true but Sabertooth is supposed to be annoying, an asshole to everyone right? Isn't that a good thing?

2

u/ZamnBoii 7h ago

I understand his character but this is a poor rendition of it but that’s just my opinion.

I’m sure once people play it they will see what I mean. Annoying and asshole-y done in a tasteful way can be interesting like he is in the comics, in this game he is not that

10

u/ilya202020 9h ago

Im more disappointed in the fact that its only 18 hours ngl

29

u/Upbeat_Shock_6807 9h ago

It’s less. It’s closer to 12 hours. The extra playtime is my fiance playing her own save file.

12

u/ilya202020 9h ago

That's even worse. 12 hours?!?!?!?!? For a 70$ game?

Oh my god.

How easy is the platinum? I’m still getting this game because I love Wolverine. The game may be disappointing but it can’t be trash. At least it offers a nice story and I can play as Wolverine

8

u/Roleplayer2489 9h ago

From all the plats I’ve seen, it’ll be by far the easiest Insomniac plat and max take you 16 hours if you’re really taking your time, no real challenges and the trials are ridiculously easy as the only movement mechanics in the game are sprint and single jump

3

u/LordNerdStark 9h ago

IIRC, the IGN reviewer said it took him 20 hours for the Plat.

3

u/Ashamed_Form8372 5h ago

Yeah but it’s a ign reviewer

3

u/20mgAddy 9h ago

Ok but what did you think of Armored Core?

5

u/Bloo_Skai 9h ago

Still waiting and praying for DLC mayne 😭😭🙏

10/10 and arguably one of Fromsoft best games ever. It truly is what fans have been waiting for and I absolutely adore it!

Fr, this man needs to finish the game, looks like he barely did one playthrough

If this game was 30$ it would've been a huge W but honestly it's such a disgrace to the fact that they call this a AAA game.

7

u/Environmental-Ice605 9h ago

What happens when toxic positivity takes hold of a corporation

3

u/Gabo_Rj 8h ago

I’m still gonna play it and make my own opinion. But thanks for making this whole ass post tbh

3

u/dragondickofbalsdeep 6h ago

Maaaaan. I upgraded to PS5 back near the end of June. Went ham, with the pro, vertical stand, charging dock, headphones, 8TB M.2SSD for a total of 10TB. And Sony has seemingly done everything to intentionally shit the bed until they die. Wolverine looked like ass from the get-go though.

3

u/DanLim79 4h ago

Spiderman 2 was the beginning of Insomniac's going downhill.

The game director said "we're going to include things that people are not going to like but it doesn't matter, we're doing it anyway"(paraphrasing)

4

u/Emotional_Site_7952 9h ago

Good I’ll bet it myself then follow up with this statement. I’ve purchased this game

2

u/haggard5 9h ago

I tend to skew positive with games. I knew this would be short and new it would be linear off the rip, obviously I had higher expectations for this one based on liking just about everything Insomniac has done. I’ll prob burn through Wolverine, and then get Onimusha. How was Onimusha btw? Heard good things.

2

u/Crimson_Catharsis 8h ago

So it’s best to wait till it goes on sale?

2

Yup. Wouldnt even consider touching it above 35$

2

u/Bolt_995 8h ago

Looking forward to trying this game out on 15th.

Interesting that you liked the story, certain review outlets are criticizing the narrative and characters, whilst others like the narrative.

Is it really that divisive?

2

u/VictorVonDoomer 8h ago

The alpha had open hubs to explore, why tf did they remove them

2

u/Icy_Chef_8167 7h ago

Jesus christ. Never would I have thought that Snoy and inslopniac would come up with some derivetive garbage. My god. Lack of a collectors editions shows even further that they didn't give af about fans and this was rushed.

2

u/FragileExpressPorter 7h ago

Should I buy Onimusha instead ??

2

u/TheMadTitanGuantlet 6h ago

Yep definitely saving my money for onimusha and phantom blade zero.

How the FUCK do you fumble Wolverine. Genuinely

2

u/ConstantPriority177 5h ago

Honestly, really unfortunate. I was looking forward to this game coming out, but I am beyond glad I did not pre-order this mess.

2

u/rustyrussell2015 5h ago

I am convinced at this point that when the insomniac founder retired a couple of years ago the creative direction and talent went with him.

2

u/benderew 5h ago

Yet another example to why people should never pre order games. Im sad that this game sucks as I really wanted it to be good ever since it was announced.

2

u/MuglokDecrepitusFx 5h ago

99% on Onimusha???

Sorry bro, according to Reddit you can't give your opinion yet

2

u/Plastic_Hovercraft_5 5h ago

Currently playing onimusha and good lord the sword game play alone should get some kind of award. Imagine if even half of that made it to wolverine's combat.

2

u/canadian190 3h ago

How odd you like Onimusha, should I buy it this week instead?

2

u/Dazzling_Rub_133 3h ago

Yh that’s the final straw

2

u/Hyaroglek 3h ago

May I say that all those things were clearly visible from the gameplay reveal of some months ago?

Indeed I was asking why all those people were so excited about this game.

I haven’t bought it, I haven’t played and do not intend to do that. But thank you for the confirmation

2

u/snakesrighteye 2h ago

I could tell from the first video this game wasnt for me. The movement and combat looked like that terrible Avengers game. Kinda floaty, no weight or impact, looked too linear, I was never sold. I didnt like the Spiderman games either.

2

u/Crafty_Life_1764 2h ago

Same here, saw the face, the ridiculousnes of this game not thx I rather buy Meat for that price of a game.

2

u/finintymonkle 2h ago

Hopefully this teaches fools who pre-order a lesson about spending £70 on a digital game.

Never pre-order! It just justifies and tells Sony that it’s ok to charge extortionate prices for sub par games.

2

u/No-Big-76 2h ago

I found the spider man insomniac games boring. Wasn’t really looking forward to this game but I am a huge Wolverine fan.

If September wasn’t so packed already I would have given this game a chance but the reviews are really discouraging. I might pick it up if it ever goes on sale.

Basically reverse Spiderman 2?

3

u/jesuslifeyes 9h ago

Looks like I’ll be cancelling my physical copy then :/ man everybody is extremely let down and disappointed in this game.

2

u/RoughSmall 9h ago

The game should’ve been semi open world, I want to spend hours on this game since wolv is my favourite hero but apparently there’s nothing to do besides replay the game, I feel the areas could’ve been more open and the devs could utilize more wall climbing like assassins creed but with stabbing your claws in the wall, more zip lines, semi super jump to jump from roofs and have him use his bike like how god of war had the sled to go from one open linear area to another

8

u/erasethenoise 9h ago

I was expecting something like The Last of Us Part II or Uncharted 4 with a mix between some linear and some open areas you could explore while also mixing some stealth with some balls to the walls combat and some epic like chase scenes or set pieces. Kinda felt like that was the obvious route for this to go so I’m not sure why we got what we seem to have gotten.

2

u/Soft_Cable_39 6h ago

Man i really wanted to explore a bit of Madripoor, shame

5

u/AccomplishedEye7752 9h ago

Part of me feels like the review bombings is because of Sony.

4

u/AccomplishedEye7752 9h ago

I'll get downvoted obviously but still.

4

u/Malacky_C 8h ago

It’s definitely a major reason

2

u/glizzygobbler247 3h ago

Review bombings? This game is getting many more 100s from critics than other games with similar scores, inflating the ratings

4

u/hellschatt 4h ago

I don't think so. It's just a bad game.

Tokon didn't get shit on as much.

And nobody shits on saros released earlier this year.

Prepare for layoffs

2

u/thewrynoise 8h ago

Thank you for the honesty. I’m sure like the rest of us, you had high hopes for and wanted this game to be fun. Sucks it turned out this way.

2

u/Timely-Win6225 7h ago

Im smelling studio interference all over this one, it feels like the had to cut so much stuff out of what they planned to do.

2

u/staresinshamona 2h ago

i’m still going to play to form my own opinion /s

burning your money would be more interesting than giving 70 DOLLARS to these people who think everyone is a 4yo marvel fan

1

u/MrNigerianPrince115 9h ago

Can you behead enemies?

1

u/suicieties 9h ago

You gotta get all those Armoured Core endings. Best “new game plus” cycle of any game in my opinion.

1

u/Scary-Photo9440 9h ago

What difficulty did you play the game on?

2

u/Upbeat_Shock_6807 9h ago

I believe it’s called the weapon. The one right above normal difficulty

1

u/_Simon_henriksson_ 8h ago

nice to hear someone say the story is good, hopefully in terms of gameplay they pull a cyberpunk 2077

I didnt read what sub this was in and read this thinking OP was talking about onimusha😭

1

u/Feenyx3712 8h ago

This would've been recieved much better if the price tag wasn't $70. The problems wouldn't disappear but at $40/50 wouldn't have too much of a problem. The scent line can be given as options via an update.

1

u/Rowlo93 8h ago

So glad I made the right call and got onimusha, one of the best character action games I've ever played.

1

u/iwannabethisguy 8h ago

I see onimusha and a mention of DMC - OP hacks and slashes. Between wolverine and onimusha, I suppose the latter is the recommended title for non diehard marvel/wolverine fans.

1

u/LordPlasm4 8h ago

You should really be doing the other runs in Armored Core, it unlocks different missions and endings + new pieces
