Discussion "Ignore reviews, try it yourself"

4.7k Upvotes

How exactly does the "try" part work? There is no demo, there is no refund after trying. Am i really only allowed to have an opinion AFTER spending $70?

So apparently i can't have opinion after trailers, or gameplay reveal, or even after reviews, hell you are not allowed to have opinion after watching game streams. How very convenient for the companies that the narrative here is that you either spend $70 or shut up.

If the companies don't want customers to fall for unjust "hate brigades", why not give us option to try? Oh right, because customer who made a bad purchase is more likely to cope with it and seek validation than admit the mistake.

Photo attached for proof.

This game sucks.

The combat is so shallow, there is no room for creativity. You parry, you stun, you barrage, you special attack. Over and over again. Any variety in combat comes solely from the combat finishers. Granted there’s a good amount of those, but you have zero say in what finisher animation you’ll even get. It’s totally random.

The level design is incredibly linear. There’s absolutely zero exploration, which is fine in character action/hack and slash games, but again, the combat is not complex enough to warrant such linear levels. Devil May Cry this is not.

The only side content are “nightmare doors”. These provide 2 kinds of challenges. Traversal and, you guessed it, more fucking shallow combat. There’s not even any traversal tools. No double jump, no wall running, no air dodging, nothing. The traversal “challenges” amount to holding the sprint button and just hitting jump as Wolverine magnetizes to the nearest zipline or ledge

The skill tree is also so incredibly basic, I don’t even know why it exists. Skills gradually unlock throughout the story, and so there were many times I had skill points to use but literally couldn’t even spend them because I had already unlocked all available skills, and needed to wait to advance the story to unlock more skills.

Then there’s adaptations. A tree where you can unlock and equip a set amount of passive abilities . I honestly don’t have much to speak on that, because they’re so fucking pointless I forget their existence about halfway through the game.

All collectibles, and “hidden” chests, stare you right in the face, you can’t miss them even if you tried.

I will say though, the story was pretty good, and I thought the actors knocked their performances out of the park, but nowhere close to being good enough to redeem this game.

Bottom line, this is the first Insomniac game I have been disappointed by, and I’m old enough to remember playing Spyro on the PS1. I mean, massive disappointment.

This game sucks.

Discussion I don’t want to be negative but why add an indicator showing you where to go in a linear game? It doesn’t make any sense.

Discussion I’m tired of people saying (don’t care about reviews or critics. Just play the game and judge it for yourself). I think that’s a stupid argument because when I buy a game for $70 and play it for two hours only to realize I don’t like it I can’t just get a refund. This is PlayStation not Steam.

Discussion If you're not in the mood to watch a bunch of reviews, here's a quick breakdown of every critique about the new Wolverine game:

Post image
853 Upvotes

These are consistent complaints that I've seen in multiple review videos/articles about the game:

>Collectibles are way too easy to be found, for example, there's a chest that glows and does a really loud noise, similar to how it works in the Spider-Man games, the difference is that these chest are put in small rooms that are impossible to miss.

>QTE's are automatic, doesn't matter if you miss them, the word "automatic" is used for a lot of things regarding the gameplay in this game.

>The Sentinel boss fight is awful, but the rest aren't so bad.

>Ending is really predictable.

>Logan's personality is weird, because he's way too sociable, kind, and nice to be around which kinda goes against how he's presented in most medias.

>Gameplay loop is pretty repetitive.

>Didn't see any major complaints about enemy variety, but didn't see anyone praising it either

>Game has a very annoying waypoint mechanic that shows a trail to not only the main mission, but also to collectibles, side quests.

They're really intrusive because they can happen during intensive moments and are very ugly and too exposed.

>Game has some platform mini-games that are too easy.

>Game doesn't have a lot of replayability potential, and platinum is ridiculously easy.

Here's some good things that people said about the game:

Satisfying combat, good graphics and good performance in both base/pro ps5, overall is a fun game, most reviews don't really hate the game, they just say it could be way better and the game design is kinda trash.

Respectfully, what are you smoking if you think im gonna pay $70 for below mid.

Games like this need to stop being bought because why is the bar so low at this point but the price for games are going up every few years.

Also come on it takes insomniac like 5 years to make this thing.

Boring levels

Boring characters not to mention some aren't even like there comic counterparts cough Sabretooth

Boring story which is what gonna lead to a game not coming out till 2030 or later

Less then 20 hours to complete, so why the $70 price tag

Insomniac really made the first Spider-Man game and thought yeah we're basically the new Rocksteady they'll buy anything.

For my first play through it will probably be classic blue and yellow %90 of the time. Although I do wish we got x-men 97’ suit not cel shaded but the weapon x and one on the left of it(sorry don’t know the name) look sooooooo good. I’m so exited after all these years we are officially ONE WEEK AWAY

Discussion Do you agree that Insomniac makes uncanny faces?

I was watching a video on youtube about why Insomniac faces look uncanny to many people, however I couldn't help but notice that I don't feel the same way at all about majority of the faces in this game. In Spider-Man 2 I can understand that the faces at times look really off and uncanny, probably do to harsh lighting and a bit of not so great animation. I don't feel the same way about what we've seen from wolverine though, I find all the faces to look believable.

I'm not talking about character designs btw, just the fidelity of the faces.

Discussion Jake Baldino from Gameranx. "I don't mind a simple action game.... It's the story that disappointed me the most. Really hurt my experience more than anything else." He has hinted that many of the choices Insomniac has made in their reinterpretation, especially with Jean Grey, are insultingly bad.

I don't get why Insomniac stopped working with comic book creators to plan our their narratives. It worked wonders with Spider-Man 1 (Christos Gage and Dan Slott) and Miles (Evan Narcisse).

The narrative in Spider-Man 2 and now this seem to be among their most common points of criticism and it comes down to the Insomniac writers room just dropping the ball and not fully understanding the characters and lore they are working with and overall having a lot of storytelling and pacing issues.

Discussion I can see why yall are cancelling pre orders…

Just want to preface this by saying I’m not trying to hate on the game and if it still looks enjoyable to you then I sincerely hope it is an enjoyable experience.

I’ve seen so many people cancelling their pre orders and was thinking to myself “how were you that excited for the game that you pre-ordered it just to cancel it off of fresh reviews…” so I decided to do something I rarely do and go look at gameplay reviews myself and I can see why. I went from extremely excited for this game once it was teased to mildly interested once the reveal came out but I was still planning on getting the game on release day but after seeing the actual gameplay…idk.

And to people who just say crap like “so you can’t make your own opinion and need reviews”, this is exactly what reviews are for…to form your own opinion on what you’re seeing before wasting $70. I saw some gameplay and came to the decision that this is probably better off being a discount purchase. I had really high expectations and hopes for this game but what we’re getting just isn’t even close to that.

For the 100th time lol, I see the problems with the game through its GAMEPLAY, what other people are saying about it is irrelevant to me. I suspected this game was going to have some flaws as soon as I saw the gameplay reveal (hence why my interest started to fade) and being able to see the natural gameplay for myself just confirmed that.

Discussion Suit regeneration

I thought this was the coolest thing ive seen from this game until the suit just magically reappeared.. I cant be the only one that finds this immersion breaking. Why couldnt they have just made it a gradual repair instead 😭

Edit: Oh my god you guys are some sensitive mfs. I wasnt hating on the game, I think its gonna be great.
Its genuinely sad that NO ONE in this sub can handle criticism for this game.. if you do, you get flamed. And for valid reasons like complaining about eyebrows but im pointing out something gameplay related that a significant amount of others also dont like. You lowk need to grow up if you cant handle criticism that implies a little complaint..

I wasnt saying that there shouldnt be regeneration from the suit as some of you jokingly said he’d be naked. I never state that. I just didnt like the fact the suit reappeared instantly. A battle damaged type suit would be awesome imo, and until the shooting stops is when the suit starts to repairs itself. I just would love to run around as shirtless logan and see the adamantium constantly get shown as he gets shot, thats all.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Wolverine/s/G9Uwrgkg9P this post is exactly what I mean and it had 2k upvotes..

Thank you to the people that actually made a discussion instead of just insulting or bitching about the post and whining more than I actually did.

Discussion Honestly, what were they thinking with these traversal challenges?

The traversal looks so basic and yet Insomniac decided to put in these challenges while Spider-Man 2, an open world game with an improved traversal system, doesn't have any swinging or traversal challenges at all. Make it make sense, Insomniac!
