Sometimes I wonder what the heck is up with Africa, but then even Scotland had the highest rate of witch burnings in Europe. And that was just a few hundred years ago.
We still have people in the UK burning down 5G masts and believing in chemtrails.
In short, it seems like the masses have to try very hard not to be morons.

u/Luscious_rat 1d ago
Religion is what's wrong with Africa. Islam, Chritianism and Shamanism, they often mix.
12
u/LuciferOnTheRocks 1d ago
Shamanism sounds kinda cool. But apparently it makes people think someone is out to steal their balls, so maybe not.
25
u/Luscious_rat 1d ago
Stealing balls is one of the tamest things, I fear. The most common crimes linked to shamanism are kidnappings and murders. As a west African, we often hear of people, mostly women and small children going missing. These criminals apparently do so on the advice of their shamans, they do some rituals, kill the person, retrieve some of their organs and give them to the shamans with money, a chicken, etc. All of this for what? Because they want to be rich. There's so much difficulty finding a stable job that a lot of people get fooled by some stories of quick money and they commit the worse. They were also raised heavily into religion so they believe that the world is first spiritual and if they can affect the spiritual world, no matter by being good or bad, they can have anything in the physical world. I hate religion for how it conditions people like this, it is the enemy of reason and practicality. People can be fooled by many things, for example a few decades ago western men were fooled to believe that they could be cured of their impotence by having goat testicles surgically implanted, and I think it's a similar mechanism as what religion does.
If people tend to believe that something that they can't understand fully is the absolute truth, even science, they become easy preys for people that want something from them by giving these fools the illusion that they can solve an issue so big and immutable as poverty or impotence: Do X and I'll grant you Y by the power of my great knowledge, which is arcane and absolute.

So you did read it? Seems like you didn’t. Because it’s not real that people are snatching balls. It’s a rumor and idiots are acting on the rumor.
9
u/Tiberius_Kilgore 1d ago
No shit, Sherlock. The “what the fuck” part is that people are being killed over it.

u/KaleAggravating3795 2d ago edited 1d ago
Yeah what you read is real. The rumors were spreading on social media, welcome to Africa. A lot of people here hold superstitious beliefs, unfortunately sometimes that leads to erratic violent actions.

u/joedenowhere 1d ago
I saw an article about this a few years ago. It said that many men who believed their genitals had been stolen would refuse to look down their pants to check.

Two hours later and still provided zero verifiable examples. You do know that "lynching " the article speaks of isn't metaphysical, right?
-39
u/Dx_Suss 1d ago
The UK has yearly race riots, Glasgow mobs burned a building they believed was full of people, Romania keeps trying to murder its Roma populations, there have been half a dozen "suspicious hangings" at Southern US colleges etc - im not going to find all the articles for you Bozo

the UK is in a racial battle fueled by Moscow and Israel. Its well documented by now.
american lynching: https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/black-people-being-found-hanging-180000701.html?guccounter=1
Romania; consistent racial abuse and fighting. https://romareact.org/the-ongoing-struggle-against-neo-nazism-and-racism-a-roma-perspective/
So that was just 2 of... maybe 15 verifiable links?

I mean it’s not based on social media specifically but lynching for superstitions and hate isn’t anything new to anywhere in the world

u/LiterallyABigfoot 1d ago
Yeah but do you have any examples of that happening in Europe and the US based on social media?

Cutting open heads of bald men with a machette, because it was believed, they have gold inside is still my number 1.

Then there is killing of albinos and using their body parts for witchcraft.

no news about rich Mozambique citizens, so I guess it was just some kind of misunderstanding.

good lord. How on earth can adults, in the 21st century believe this shit?!
And they're KILLING people because they believe in freaking fairy tales and wiener stealers??!!
Places never to visit even though I don't have a penis: Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Angola, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
Ps: what happens when the dudes realize their dicks are not actually gone? The alleged dick stealers have already been killed!

u/kumogate 2d ago
Some of these are places where people believe having sex with a virgin can cure AIDS. A poorly educated population with nothing to navigate life except folk legends and rumor is what this looks like.
Horrifying that this is what certain groups are trying to turn the USA into, too.
14
u/TorrenceMightingale 1d ago
In the lower Congo Valley, the flesh of children was often considered a delicacy. At least that stopped from what I understand.
2
u/CreamofTazz 1d ago
Yup and rather than educating on STI transmission and prevention, we instead just circumcise boys and men and then throw them back out into the world.
9
u/kumogate 1d ago
Yeah, I still find it strange that Americans are really into circumcision when the rest of the Western world (except Israel) just doesn't really do that. It seems like that's changing (albeit very slowly) in American culture, however.
3
u/CreamofTazz 1d ago
I've legit been told over and over again by multiple people that they just don't trust men to be able to keep it clean downstairs and so that's why men should be circumcised.
But if I were to say women can't be trusted to keep clean down there... Well let's just say I would have CPS at my door. It's really crazy how people just kinda ignore the ways in which we vilify men and their bodies. We far too often shrug and say "it's men doing it to men" but the reality is women also hold this opinion as well. Hell I've seen more female nurses advocate for it than I've seen any man do it.
2
u/kumogate 1d ago
Yeah, the excuses Americans trot out for it are insane. All of them fail simply because the majority of men in the world are never circumsized and don't have problems keeping their junk clean. American culture is notoriously insular, however, so this change that is happening is much slower than it should be.
Male genital mutilation should be done away with unless absolutely medically necessary.
1
u/CatnipGemini 1d ago
Thank you for saying that because it's so true & nobody ever wants to talk about it. Some women's attitude toward men is terrible, there's plenty of evidence for it as well as me growing up with it. It's not about attacking women just certain societal attitudes that need addressing.

There was a nasty case recently in India about something similar. (August 2026)

And you thought that your uncle saying "Got yer nose!" was scary as a kid...
"Got yer penis!"
"Gimme back mah penis!"
"Let me check my bag. Is yours the 2 incher? That's all I've got in this bag? This looks like it fits you!"
"Um. Nevermind. I was clearly mistaken..." (starts to walk away)
"Oh wait up! I think I found a 2.5 incher. Maybe that one in yours? Let's ask your wife. Oh, she says you had a 1 incher. I'll give you the free upgrade..." (walking quickly to keep up)
"Leave mah alone man!" (breaks into a sprint, the two men run past a pair of old guys sitting)
"Damn. That man can really run considering he got no balls..."

"Dozens"
An actual BBC(0_0) article, said that 85 people had been killed in their investigation.
Any societies that revolve around sticking to very old cultural ideas and traditions, run the risk of nonsense like this.
In the west, we seem to work to get as far away from our old ideas and culture as fast as possible... now
There is a lot of cool stuff and beauty in cultures and traditions, but ignorantly adhering to ones that don't suit society anymore is a terrible idea.
White people get made fun of for having "no culture" all the time. The thing is, they do. It just has no set identity, because it is always shifting and morphing with the times instead of clinging to 500 year old concepts of women, gay people, minorities, disabled...
Is it perfect? Obviously not. But its a culture that is at least moving in a progressive direction.

So, a question I'm walking away with is, how some of these people believe their genitals are entirely missing...because allegedly some of them were stolen completely. Can buddy not just....look down there. Or better yet, how did it go missing if it actually isn't there. There's no way the tooth fairy or Krampus or whoever got so confused and just took the wrong thing
3
u/Jaggz691 1d ago
So they think these people are witches and warlocks?
Just by tapping someone on the shoulder you too can have a smaller dick!

This is why we vote to fun public education folks. This is what awaits us if we take it away.
You’re not inherently better than these people, you had a complex system of administrators, scientists, writers, and money given to you as a child for decades. Those years had an impact.
2
u/OSRSRapture 1d ago
Truly amazing. It seems like humans are becoming dumber as time goes on. Who would have ever guessed that in 2026 there would be people believing that strangers are stealing their genitals by, checks notes.... tapping their shoulders..

Reminder that Africa is the second largest continent on the planet with over 80 different cultural structures. I’m tired of people just saying “Africa” as if it’s all accompanying to every country and culture, especially when bad reports come from there.
10
u/AltruisticPeanutHead 1d ago
Agreed, but also this is happening across 8 countries it said so it actually makes sense here lol
3
u/OrangeClyde 1d ago
Ignorant weirdos. It’s 2026, we’re too far along in time and civilization to still believe such foolishness
2
u/mrselffdestruct 1d ago
So are we talking a “got your nose” situation or a “tapping him on the shoulder to then physically rip his penis off of his body” situation
Edit: ah, we have the classic “religious beliefs mixed with superstitions being higher on the totem pole than science and education” situation.

u/itsgotelectr0lytes 1d ago
Africa as a continent really doesn't have much nice things going for it, and a whole lot of bad things.

"Horrifying videos show how the violent killings take place: men claim their penis and/or testicles have vanished or shrank after coming into contact with a stranger before an angry mob demands the genitals are returned. Many don't survive but some do."
I think it's a bit exaggerated. They put "video of the killing" with a hyperlink that just linked to a news report of a British man being burned alive by gangs but not at all related to the penis thing.
1
u/PrincessGump 14h ago
Did you tead the article? A witness stated ine man was beaten and burned alive for “stealing someone’s penis”.
