I’m have an idea that eventually the rest of Pestilence brothers/sisters will be introduced and when we get to Death it will be over heels for Fani because she was “flirting with Death” for a LONG time.
Real talk though, I get it. People can be amazing, and lovely, and intoxicating. It gets easy to lose track in the midst of all that warmth. I can't help falling in love with people.
Hope I don't sound like too much of an armchair therapist but is her problem shes linked abusiveness with love? The worse it is for her the faster she "falls in love"?
We see there was apparently one guy who treated her well but clearly that relationship didn't last for whatever reason.
I'd say it's still hard to pinpoint how Fani turned out the way she did (I've only followed the comic here on reddit so maybe others know more). Her mom's been missing since a young age, so you could say that had an impact, her dad was neglectful, but she had the snake demon lady (sorry, forgot the name atm) looking after her who was genuinely loving and motherly. Then you had the aunt bitch, but it seems like her influence on Fani was quickly restricted for a long time.
The most obvious sign is her relationship with the abusive girl, but that seems to have happened years after she started seeing a therapist for her issues, so I think that girl made Fani worse but wasn't the root cause. I'm curious to see how deep her "mess" status gets dug into as things go on though!
Her dad was less than ideal as much as he tried (his coping strategies sucked ass and made hik somewhat neglectful), one of her first relationships seems to have been very abusive and controlling.
So she lacked a good model of a good and involved relationship (e.g. her familial relationships were spmewhat empty (father) or somewhat antagonistic (aunt)), so she filled that with stuff from one of her first and learned all the wrong lessons.
Once that gets ingrained it is a lot harder to notice red flags since a lot of abusive and controlling behaviors have been normalized to you, doesn't help that most red flags can also have valid reasons.
This is how a lot of abuse victims sadly get into new abusive relationships, and why people who escape cults/mlms/radical movements are some of the most likely to be sucked into another.
Fani no, don't fall for the woman who wants to kill you! I love yuri and I'm an unapologetic lesbian but that's a toxic relationship in the making and will not turn out well for anyone!

Honestly, this might be the healthiest relationship she'll have. Layla will do everything in her power to hate Fani and Fani will do everything in her power to get her to like her. As a result they'll begin to chip away at the problems each of them have. In a twisted way, it'll be a great way to get them to open up about their problems so long as Fani can stay alive long enough for that to happen.
I don't think she has experienced proper romantic love that is actually healthy once. This sounds more like a maladjusted survival response at lacking figures in her life.
Imagine an arc where Layla agrees to date Fani just to screw with her psychologically and also to get closer to Deth, but then realises “shit, I love this loser” or smth
