Professor Layton under Level-5's new creative direction

Post image

Artist credit: Verdimand

Context: Yesterday Level-5 (a well-respected developer of such franchises as Yokai Watch, Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven and Ni No Kuni) held a livestream for their upcoming games that was stuffed to the brim with really bad, and really obvious, AI content.

I'm missing something here... Is the new game being made using Gen AI?

1.6k

u/s-riddler 23h ago

That would appear to be the implication

490

u/LightyShinane 23h ago

It said the puzzle are made by Quizknock. Is it really made by people or AI ? I'm kinda lost.

600

u/HowToGetName 22h ago

Puzzles are made by QuizKnock, it's just memes going around because a lot of yesterday's Level-5 Vision was genAI.

115

u/HEX_BootyBootyBooty 15h ago

Well, it ain't their "vision" if an AI has to hand it to them....

-156

u/LightyShinane 22h ago

Ok, but do we know if everything else in the game have some AI, or it's perhaps one their last game without AI ? (I'm hoping too much ?)

237

u/SymbioticSwitch 22h ago

The company publicly stated they are all in with AI. It's almost a guarantee all their new games/DLC coming out are made with AI in some regards.

51

u/99timewasting 18h ago

That is such a bummer, Layton was one of my favorite series on DS and 3DS

27

u/Trick-Routine-8577 17h ago

Seems to me that the architecture of the Layton games lends itself well to use the ai slop machine. I don't care if code or tooling is written by ai but art and narrative full of ai really fucking sucks, especially when they charge full price and all that money goes to the greedy execs and no actual workers. The only thing we can do is not buy this shit or it will never stop.

10

u/goldengamer2345 15h ago

yeah, I loved the layton games, was looking forward to this one.

Not anymore...

7

u/roseifyoudidntknow 11h ago

This is how I found out about a new one. Also how i found out I wont play it.

5

u/TheCoalitionOfChaos 6h ago

Oh it gets worse

You know that remake of curious village they're working on? The backgrounds have more than a few errors or weird looking bits that a human probably wouldn't draw.

They fuckin James cameron'd curious village

1

u/Kirome 4h ago

More like LAIton

3

u/PegaZwei 13h ago

feels bad, 'cause fantasy life i was honestly a banger and i'm almost hoping it doesn't get any more content now.

1

u/KuraiBaka 3h ago

It probably already has genAI in it, just like the "new" Inazuma eleven.

Of course if they already have it is ultimately unknown but it's very likely.

-97

u/LightyShinane 22h ago

Yeah but since it was announced a lot time ago. I'm hopping it the one without AI. I'm already dissapointed by Decapolice.

-50

u/CuddleWings 20h ago

Considering the puzzles are made by a third party, I think it’s safe to say they’re not gonna be AI. That’s all I really care about

36

u/HowToGetName 22h ago

We'll have to wait and see but considering Decapolice (which started planning before the new Layton game iirc) has some genAI stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if the same applies to the new Layton game.

19

u/LightyShinane 22h ago

We'll see, thanks for everything.

(And f*cking hell... hoping we get some law where they tell if they use ai or not...)

26

u/HowToGetName 22h ago edited 19h ago

iirc Steam guidelines say that games with genAI usage have to disclaim this and where genAI was used, but unfortunately Steam doesn't enforce this.

Edit: as someone pointed out, it's voluntary.

10

u/Ya_Boi_Conjim 19h ago

its voluntary, Steam/Valve do not enforce it

3

u/HowToGetName 19h ago

Ah, didn't know about that.

1

u/KuraiBaka 3h ago

Yep Cyberpunk doesn't has it despite using AIgen voice acting for a decreased VA in the polish dub.

6

u/lonnie123 17h ago

why does this have negative 83 points? It seems like a completely valid concern

8

u/LightyShinane 16h ago

I think hoping is forbidden here.

131

u/AKluthe 22h ago

The head of Level-5 is very into AI and has been very open about the studio using it for everything.

Traditionally Layton games have had an outside team developing the actual puzzles.

-5

u/jsty3105 5h ago

They use it for generating concepts for their artists, developers and writers up create content

u/AKluthe 3m ago

If a writer can only get ideas by asking the machine full of everyone else's writing, I don't want to read it.

-14

u/zeelbeno 8h ago

OP said it's AI so it must be right?

Yet... it's so obvious that people are questioning if it is AI.

I heard curious village was made by AI as well... trust me bro

-45

u/afoolishyouth 21h ago

And of course gamers will still buy the game…. Because of the implication…

-31

u/afoolishyouth 17h ago

Lol I guess people in this sub don’t watch IASIP

29

u/dathunder176 17h ago

No, no we do, we got the reference. I just don't think you know how to use the reference.

7

u/racinreaver 12h ago

Using the reference is the most important part of the reference. The using. Anybody can just make them.

-29

u/afoolishyouth 17h ago

I don’t care

191

u/locke_5 23h ago

FWIW, the actual puzzles in Layton games are not developed by Level-5.

259

u/WrongLander 23h ago

This is accurate. Until the Katrielle Layton game, they were made by noted scholar Akira Tago. After his death, the puzzle duties have been passed around with mixed results.

16

u/Neutronium57 18h ago

Has there been other games after this one ?

I remember buying it on the 3DS because I was desperate for a new Layton game and it was okay. The story wasn't super interesting.

20

u/Kyleometers 18h ago

There are 6 Layton games in total. The first three are quite good, the fourth is ok, 5 and 6 are… bad.

51

u/WrongLander 17h ago edited 17h ago

There are actually about to be ten Layton games in total.

The six (soon to be seven) main games:

  1. Curious Village
  2. Diabolical Box
  3. Unwound Future
  4. Last Specter
  5. Miracle Mask
  6. Azran Legacy
  7. World of Steam (upcoming).

Then there's:

  • Layton Brothers, a phone game that's more Danganronpa-esque than a puzzler
  • Layton Vs. Ace Attorney, a big-budget crossover
  • Layton's Mystery Journey, which is effectively 'Layton 7' as it stars his daughter Katrielle and has the same gameplay style; was intended to be a soft reboot but didn't sell very well so the planned trilogy was canned.

Out of all of these, among the fandom 1-3 are considered phenomenal; 4-6 are considered pretty good; the crossover is dependent on your affection for Ace Attorney; and Katrielle's game is seen as a bit of a stinker. None are outright 'bad' though. They accomplish what they set out to do, which is be a compilation of brainteasers in a cozy British package.

1

u/walkswithfae 12h ago

Wasn't there another one that had Layton's adopted son as the main character? I think it was called Mystery Room, or maybe I imagined that

9

u/Hydride796 12h ago edited 12h ago

That was the mobile game, Layton Brothers: Mystery Room. The protagonists were rookie Scotland Yard investigator Lucy Baker and the detective Alfendi Layton, adoptive son of Professor Hershel Layton from the main series

2

u/walkswithfae 12h ago

Oh ok, I only remembered half the name.Thank you!

1

u/DoubleClickMouse 8h ago

You have that backwards. Alfendi is Hershel’s biological son, while Katrielle is his adoptive daughter.

1

u/WrongLander 6h ago

To be fair I don't think it's ever 100% confirmed one way or the other. The ending leaves it ambiguous when Barton phones Hershel, but of course that's a cliffhanger that was never resolved.

1

u/TheJumpingBox 11h ago

Closer to 11, I believe Spectre's Call has a minigame built in as a bonus that was basically an entire different game, it teased some of the upcoming characters for the movie :)

9

u/Neutronium57 18h ago

Never found the "regular" games bad. The story was interesting imo.

The crossover with Phoenix Wright was also interesting since I've never played an Ace Attorney game.

As long as the puzzles are good, I'm not going to find the game bad, but the last game with Katrielle came almost 5 years after the precedent. I think one of the reasons why I find it okay-ish is that the story is divided in several cases that have very little in common. So instead of trying to solve a single mystery throughout the entire game, you solve smaller ones. Also the tone is much more lighthearted, which can be felt when looking at those cases.

1

u/Kyleometers 17h ago

I mean fair if you liked them. I found the story in the last two WAY too contrived, and the puzzles were definitely much weaker. And I know I’m not alone in this, they reviewed a lot lower.

3

u/Neutronium57 17h ago

Tbh I've played them years ago when I was a teen, so I don't have every detail in mind. But now that you mention it, thinking again about the last game or two (with Layton, not his daughter), I have to agree the story became a kinda far fetched. The Miracle Mask's story was a bit like that, but I liked the fact they tried to somewhat explore Layton's past. However, I have to agree with your argument when it comes to the Azran Legacy.

2

u/WrongLander 6h ago

You found Miracle Mask contrived? That's (somehow) the most grounded of any of the plots in the series! It's just the classic 'childhood friend revealed to be the modern day villain' twist, whereas the original trilogy had stuff like villages populated with robots, hallucinogenic gas mines and time travel!

39

u/MrChocodemon 19h ago

Is the new game

All new games (I think 5 in total), all future games AND the last Level 5 "direct" had an AI host with AI written dialogue

Level 5 presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9nITMlt8Fk

They have proudly announced that their upcoming games are done 80-90% by AI

4

u/jsty3105 7h ago

That 80% to 90% claim is false and was a misquote. Not the first time a gaming publication ran with a sensationalist headline.

From Level 5: "the claim that LEVEL5 has AI write "80–90%" of our program code is a huge misunderstanding. Here is what actually happened: in an unreleased title we're working on that explores AI as a theme, one programmer deliberately experimented with using AI for the programming as well, as part of that exploration. That naturally led to a broader discussion about whether this could be the kind of era the future is heading toward, and the conversation expanded from there."

6

u/MrChocodemon 4h ago

Nice, but that doesn't really matter when they fired their concept artists, have unchanged ai assets in their game and just had their ai press conference. So even if that is actually false, which I believe you, it doesn't really change the fact that Level-5 are an ai-first company that doesn't care about art anymore.

188

u/WrongLander 23h ago edited 23h ago

At least in part. Yesterday Level-5 (a well-respected developer of such franchises as Yokai Watch, Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven and Ni No Kuni) held a livestream for their upcoming games that was stuffed to the brim with really bad, and really obvious, AI content.

97

u/No-Channel3917 20h ago

Wow never thought Level-5 (a well-respected developer of such franchises as Yokai Watch, Inazuma Eleven,Professor Lyton, and Ni No Kuni) would ever do such a thing

39

u/zgillet 19h ago

Are we still talking about the same Level-5 (a well-respected developer of such franchises as Yokai Watch, Inazuma Eleven,Professor Lyton, and Ni No Kuni)?

28

u/No-Channel3917 19h ago

Sadly it is the other Level-5 (a well-respected developer of such franchises as Professor Lyton, Ni No Kuni, Inazuma Eleven and Yokai Watch)

5

u/Hellknightx 18h ago

Unfortunately, L-5 has fully embraced generative AI content. They've said that all of their games moving forward will be using it.

1

u/leova 5h ago

Yes, 100%

1

u/TediousTotoro 21h ago

From what I’ve heard the new Layton isn’t but it’s definitely possible that future games in the series might be

-65

u/WolfpackConsultant 22h ago edited 22h ago

I watched a bit of the video. the games seem fine and well made. I think OP is just angry it was presented by an AI version of their CEO...

31

u/KickHimWhileIAmDown 22h ago

The games themselves are being made with AI, not just the trailers and promotional material. Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road was stated to not use any GenAI in the final product prior to the game's release, but Level-5 lied, as the end credits state that GenAI was used in the game.

Because of all this, people are rightfully mad at Level-5. That said, the company claimed that the Layton puzzles won't be made with AI... but since they've lied before, it's hard for many to trust them.

2

u/WolfpackConsultant 22h ago

Thanks for the context

u/Megalesios 22h ago

I used to love everything about Level-5. Yokai Watch, Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven etc.

The fact that the company that made freaking Ni no Kuni recently announced they were going "AI-first" is actually heartbreaking

244

u/WrongLander 22h ago

Agreed, I am head over heels for Yokai Watch, Layton and Ni no Kuni as well (they collabed with Studio Ghibli for that!) but I'd rather they stayed dormant than be treated like this.

85

u/Sola-Nova 20h ago

Their first game Dark Cloud was the first jrpg that really stuck with me when I was kid and I still myself humming and whilsting tunes from that game.

20

u/Sata1991 17h ago

Man I spent so long wishing they'd do something with the franchise but with the Gen AI obsession I don't think I'd like it.

22

u/Belgand 16h ago

I loved them before then: Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, Dragon Quest VIII. They made some great RPGs. Then they found cash cows making games for kids and easily-franchised series, White Knight Chronicles flopped, and they pretty much stopped making the cool, innovative RPGs that they used to.

Level-5 has shown me that they cared a lot more about making money than good games over a decade ago. I can't say I'm too surprised here.

10

u/Vincent210 15h ago

I mean there is a pretty big difference between pivoting genres and going AI-sellout

Sure they weren't making RPGs anymore but what they were making was very real, cool, and narratively involved still.

I wouldn't agree dropping RPGs for Layton and co. was solely about the money at all. They almost went under and dissolved entirely. Didn't exactly cash cow as a result of pivoting.

2

u/WrongLander 6h ago

They absolutely were still making RPGs. Yokai Watch and Fantasy Life and Ni No Kuni are bangers.

4

u/omfgkevin 12h ago edited 11h ago

WKC and THEN WKC 2 as well. Shame because I liked some of the core concepts and the combat system was fun if somewhat janky. Turning into big ass knights was sick too.

Was always hoping they'd eventually come around and with a better vision make a third but with the whole "AI AI AI everything of ours will be AI" I'm staying as far away as I can from anything they touch.

They are somehow STILL late and constantly delaying (while somehow announcing new stuff). With ai supposedly "helping" them make things smooth and fast god knows wtf they are even doing at this point.

2

u/Belgand 11h ago

Such a failure that the second game came with an entire copy of the first one for free.

It's a shame because before release it was looking like it would be their follow-up to their PS2 classics. Instead they pivoted harder to the DS and making kid slop.

1

u/Bretreck 10h ago

I was looking forward to the DLC for Fantasy Life i. As soon as I saw the stupid AI video I already planned on not buying it anymore. I loved all their games too, it sucks.

28

u/shadowedlove97 20h ago

It’s heartbreaking. I loved Ni No Kuni. I guess there’s no hope in them reconsidering.

33

u/IAmTiborius 20h ago

Same, and since Ni No Kuni was a colab with Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki is vehemently against AI, I don't think we'll see a new entry for a long long tjme

7

u/zgillet 17h ago

Probably because gen-AI literally has a "Gibli" setting that steals from him directly and without shame.

5

u/Avitas1027 17h ago

They might reconsider after a few flops. Whether they survive them is another question. Though they have enough of a track record that it'll probably take several flops for people to realize they aren't the studio they used to be, so there's a chance.

3

u/Parker8484 5h ago

Dark cloud 2 and ni no Kuni are amazing games!

7

u/Thomas_JCG 19h ago

End of an era.

1

u/Jim_e_Clash 12h ago

Wait what's ai first the art, the writing, or the coding. If just the coding, it's kinda hard to escape that today. And it's less of an issue given how much copy paste code already existed.

But art and writing is just shooting your self in the foot for no reason. I haven't seen any generative AI that is production ready.

1

u/SimonJ57 7h ago

You should have seen the recent Fantasy Life i paid DLC announcement.
Its dreadful.

1

u/holicv 3h ago

Is Ni no Kuni that good? I have almost bought it a few times but haven’t yet

1

u/JoeLikesMovies2007 1h ago

I feel like there some context missing here.

100

u/potatoqualitymemory 22h ago

As others are saying about the developers going into AI, you often see puzzles made unsolvable by how AI generates them. You see this on occasion in r/mildlyinfuriating when parents get unplayable word searches or mazes with no real paths.

66

u/Jimmyx24 22h ago

Generative AI was used in the making of the game

-1

u/ToTeMVG 21h ago

well that section that says "context: the developers did a stream showing off their upcoming games and they were stuffed to the brim with bad obvious AI" might be a decent context clue to the comic

16

When I made my comment The only thing I saw was "Artist credit: Verdimand"

0

u/kevshea 18h ago

Yeah, the * next to "x hours ago" (at least on old Reddit) shows they edited it.

If the new Layton game has AI I'm going to be heartbroken... I have all the mainline games + Wright vs. Layton. I love this franchise😭

37

u/TheReal9bob9 17h ago

Well we know the remake at least has ai use because the backgrounds have hallucinations. There was a staircase that just stops existing halfway up, some berries on bushes became moldy green blobs.

1

u/pupunoob 14h ago

There's gonna be a remake?

7

u/TheReal9bob9 13h ago

Yeah curious village is getting one. They seemingly waited a day to show it because the backgrounds are ai. Even ignoring the ai they took the 2d characters and made them 3d which is somewhat upsetting.

3

u/pupunoob 13h ago

Urgh. I really miss the old Level-5.

41

u/YuNuS097 21h ago

Every true gentleman knows a generated puzzle has no solution.

15

u/Chrononi 19h ago

Oh no, i was looking forward to professor layton

6

u/Beep_Mann 20h ago

Ni no kuni mentioned!

19

u/Metalienz 19h ago

As technology get smarter things get dumber

5

u/Warm_Parking_941 14h ago

This might also relate to the pictures parents post of their kids' AI worksheets that they do in school, many of which are nonsense with incorrect answers.

5

u/Radioactive24 9h ago

I spent way too long trying to solve the puzzle.

12

u/quipquest 20h ago

That’s just like Layton to take one look at a puzzle and instantly tell it’s bulls**t.

5

u/IllusionaryKid 15h ago

They already used AI to display the new character for the Inazuma Eleven sequel, oh Level 5, why?!

4

u/kle73 9h ago

So what im hearing is this isnt my starting point for professor layton games?

1

u/gingerbreadboi 19m ago

You'd probably be pretty confused anyway. The DS and 3DS games follow a different chronological order than release order, but I'd still recommend release order 👌 and apparently there's a remake of the first one, Curious Village, but looks like it uses some gen AI 😷

11

u/embunny1513 14h ago

NOT MY NICHE GOAT BEING SLANDERED ON THE MAIN GAMING SUB 💔💔💔

5

u/embunny1513 14h ago

I agree though fuck AI 😢 I just love the professor

5

u/Dimxtunim 16h ago

Level 5 made one of my favorite games of all time, fantasy life on the 3DS sad to see they got murdered by the same doohickey that killed shinzo abe and the ideia of shinzo abe at the same time

9

u/Art_student_rt 19h ago

Man level 5?? They made danball senki, my fav, it's just shitty they now stoop this low

3

u/mickmenn 17h ago

I just want a way to play all Layton games on contemporary devices

2

u/ShakenNotStirred915 16h ago

The original trilogy at the least is on the Apple App Store, for what it's worth.

3

u/LG3V 13h ago

They're on google play as well, free if you have play pass.

1

u/bramblebitch 6h ago

Plenty of handheld devices now that do that, there are even dual screen ones like the Ayn Thor for the DS/3DS games.

8

u/Kitakitakita 21h ago

i havf tweelv mechsteek

2

u/Hitei00 5h ago

Level 5 has been aggressively pro AI for years by this point, this shouldn't be surprising people.

4

u/maxis2k 20h ago

Considering they constantly cut corners in the earlier games, I'm not surprised. Level 5 are amazing at graphics. But really terrible at gameplay and story content. And constantly outsourced those things. If they can find a way to outsource it even cheaper (or free) they will definitely take it.

4

u/Thopterthallid 17h ago

I forsee poor sales and layoffs.

10

u/WrongLander 17h ago

Level-5 is hanging by a thread as it is. They bet the farm on Yokai Watch, which did succeed at first but then they milked it into the ground; then Covid and the failed multimedia initiative that was Snack World damn near finished them off. This latest batch of games is seen by many as their last chance to steady themselves, hence the lower budgets and reliance on AI.

7

u/D9sinc 16h ago

They seemed to have done well with Fantasy Life I and Inazuma (though Inazuma does use Gen AI for graphical assets and the VA that they are using is massively stilted and sounds awful so I would bet that the VoiceVox program that generated voice lines were the directors of the dub for the game hence why the performance sounds so bad.

3

u/Thopterthallid 14h ago

They should just port the Layton games to Steam.

2

u/WrongLander 6h ago

Apparently this is on the cards, the recent Steam leak showed a port for Layton Vs. Ace Attorney is coming, which is a title they've otherwise just sat on since it came out in 2014.

If they're going to port a game as obscure as that it's a logical bet the others are coming too.

-2

u/zeelbeno 7h ago

Sounds like they can't afford artists to cover the entire game then.

I'm fine if it means i get a new game... maybe everyone else who isn't can donate or offer their services for free if they want new games to enjoy.

I play for the puzzles and they will be made to be solvable either way.

The old games weren't ai and some of the puzzles made no sense.

2

u/SMKM 15h ago

Professor Layton more like Professor Layoffs

4

u/Valatros 20h ago

... Think I'll stop hoping for a Dark Cloud 3 until the AI bubble pops...

3

u/HawksBurst 17h ago

I was really looking forward to it, but man lvl5 flounting their love for AI doesnt sit good with me

1

u/enterthehawkeye 16h ago

1

u/No-Tennis3480 9h ago

Literally the foxy grid

1

u/pocketMagician 1h ago

Feels bad man.

-15

u/DulledBlade 21h ago

Is there a part of the Professor Layton trailer specifically that shows the use of AI?

In the livestream OP linked, the trailer's at timestamp 40:46. I watched it and couldnt see any obvious signs of AI generation.

I'm actually kinda excited for the game, seems like it'll be cool.

obv they should disclose whether or not AI gen was used, but if the game is as polished as the trailer, i wont care.

16

u/1967542950 19h ago

The Layton trailer is actually pretty cool, no signs of GenAI. If it were my type of game, I'd pick it up.

OP is referring to Level-5's yearly not-Nintendo-Direct that happened yesterday, which was completely filled with GenAI. The event was hosted by an AI avatar, they ran all the trailers through an AI filter (for some reason the Yo-kai Watch 2 trailer has a completely different art style than the version of the trailer that had already come out?), and the games themselves did not look very good quality.

A youtuber made a video covering AI use in the presentation.

0

u/lumbino 8h ago

I got so lost when I saw this but was very curious to understand what it is!!

-48

u/Regular_Ship2073 21h ago

Can we wait until it’s out before crying that it’s bad and made with ai?

8

u/TheReal9bob9 17h ago

This is what trailers are for though and what they showed off for the remake at least had ai. Its way more likely that the new game will aswell since they are using it in their other games and blatantly using slop in the presentation.

0

u/Regular_Ship2073 16h ago

Where

5

u/TheReal9bob9 13h ago

Background of almost every single shot from the remake. The stairs behind him that have floor until halfway up and vanish, the building with vague text, the bushes that previously had berries and now have weird blended together green and blue splotches where the ai couldnt decern the intent of the original.

1

u/Regular_Ship2073 4h ago

Imma be honest, i rewatched it all and the only weird thing i saw is the text in the letter at the start, i think it’s just a mix of the art style and confirmation bias (the buildings always had nonsense/garbled text for example)

Do you have timestamps?

6

u/ERedfieldh 19h ago

"Let's let the company use LLMs to do all their work and THEN tell them no"

Or how about we tell them now that we won't purchase anything by them or support them if they use it, yes?

1

u/Regular_Ship2073 16h ago

It’s already done, it comes out in 3 months, let’s wait for the reviews

-3

u/PonyFiddler 16h ago

I mean the % of people in the world that has bought into the anti ai properganda is 6% your such a tiny proportion that no company cares what you think.

Sounds like you have a source for this claim. Would you care to share it?

The best case scenario here is that the president/CEO Hino is using it just to try and make AI look appealing but the games themselves don't have any. That's literally best case scenario here

6

u/MonaganX 18h ago

I'd say that's about as likely a best case scenario as the games being released for free. Level-5 has been open about using AI in their game development for at least a couple of years, that ship has long sailed, this was just the pitch for them using it even more.

u/TheReal9bob9 17h ago

We already know they used ai on the backgrounds in the remake they showed off.

u/randomguy301048 18h ago

If the new game has ai why do we care? If it's bad then it's bad and will do poorly. If it's made well then great. Who cares if it's ai?

u/Tek_Freek 16h ago

I am an old (very old) gamer. I hate the idea of AI, - in most cases - but here is what I see, if I understand the comments. A once great game producer that is in financial trouble and trying to stay afloat by using AI.

Do I have that right? If so why the negativity? I agree AI sucks, but you're talking about a company that made great games trying to continue to do so.

What am I missing?

2

u/randomguy301048 16h ago

Thats what I've gathered as well. Honestly I don't really have a strong opinion on AI. If the AI works and I imagine they will also do QA checks to make sure things are not bad. Reddit is just insanely anti-AI

u/Tek_Freek 15h ago

See excellent explanation by ShakenNotStirred915.

u/ShakenNotStirred915 15h ago

You're missing that the ONLY way to keep AI from practically taking over and ruining the industry is to reject it fully and firmly. If we let New World of Steam pass because "oh no they're struggling," other companies are not going to understand that, hell Level 5 themselves will not understand that, they're just going to think the market finally gave in and accepted AI and it'll soon be everywhere in everything because labor and associated cost is basically THE limiting factor of games in the present day, and corpos will jump on a chance to slash those costs with two hands if they have so much as an inkling of an idea that what the slop machine craps out won't be a colossal flop.

Thank you. Excellent explanation.

Cause influencers have told them to be angry about it.

u/Tek_Freek 16h ago

Ever notice how influencer sounds like influenza?

Antis ruining another franchise. FUCK ANTI AI

8

u/meDeadly1990 17h ago

How does being anti AI ruin the franchise?

2

u/nish47 1h ago

Franchise wouldn't be ruined if they didn't use GenAI in the first place. This was one of my favourite gaming companies growing up. I love Layton, Inazuma Eleven and Fantasy Life. But I can't support them anymore for this

-2

u/Sir_Lanian 17h ago

Didnt they kill off the character?

3

u/WrongLander 17h ago edited 17h ago

No?

Well, technically... yes, in Azran Legacy. He and the entire rest of the cast (Luke included) sacrifice themselves by standing in front of energy beams to stop the army of doomsday machines. They all die after an almost perversely long cutscene where you get to hear them scream in pain. But then they get better a few scenes later thanks to some magical mumbo jumbo.

It could gave been funnier if the words were "No", "HALF-Life", "3" or any dead series. Now I'm sad.

What

1

u/ToTeMVG 21h ago

its a bot

5

u/andrix7777777 20h ago

im actually not so sure, looking at this guy's comment history. usually the bot accounts are new and they all have the same basic "Wow, this meme is so relatable! So sad to see Level-5 go down this way. 😢" structure

i think they just saw the lambda symbol as one of the letters and went "oho, half-life?" because this is r/gaming so people from all over everywhere see this, not necessarily people who know or care about layton

3

u/ToTeMVG 20h ago

the name just made me think bot so much i didnt even bother checking, though bots can also take over accounts, though typically you very clearly see the divide between the bot comments and the once human comments

-3

u/Sexy_Garlic 18h ago

I leave my comment history open so people can read my other cringe post. I'm not sure I'm proud I convince one think I am a CLANKER.

-2

u/Sexy_Garlic 19h ago

MY FELLOW CLANKERS (I CAN SAY IT CUZZ IM FROM TH3 CYBER HOOD) DONT LIKE CALLED "bots", WE PREFFER FUTURE HUMAN REPLACEMENTS.

5

u/ToTeMVG 17h ago

ngl i would have just pretended i was high rather than react like this, i mean maybe you're still high?

-7

u/Sexy_Garlic 18h ago

Look at the comic, the joke is the puzzle is too easy. I on the other hand wanted to use add the words to add a message. I struck a chord with gaming community and I made myself LOL CUZ PEOPLE THINK IM A BOT.

6

u/Daarken 18h ago

The joke is the puzzle is impossible, what are you smoking ?

-2

u/turkeypedal 16h ago

I mean, the joke is set up like it's supposed to be easily solvable. Layton's comment is set up as the punchline. And the first three are all easily found, so lots of people may not get down the last one. It's not usually necessary to solve puzzles to read comics.

u/Neuw 16h ago

???

None of the words can be found.
