Not like Americans are the only ones now dealing with the fallout from their stupid ass war.

14

u/Equivalent_Soft_2019 5h ago

And apparently EU pays way more per liter than US

14

u/CaptainPoset 4h ago

Or to phrase it differently: Americans complain that their fuel prices have reached European early-mid 2020 levels (the cheapest in two decades).

Current prices in Germany are about 2.90 USD per litre, which is roughly 11 USD per US gal.. So of course, we have little sympathy for those (USA), who caused our prices to rise by more than their total record price.

I wish my Prius had a gas tank half that big.

450

u/mwthomas11 10h ago

right! The ultimate road trip vehicle is a hybrid with a massive gas tank. My old 2012 ford fusion hybrid had a 16 gallon tank and I squeezed 600 miles out of it once. It was glorious.

56

u/legato2 5h ago

Subaru Outback has a 19 gallon tank and gets over 600 miles per fill on highway road trips. It’s a killer road trip car.

7

u/vabello 2h ago

My Impreza is killer on the highway. I’ve gone on a trip that was 90 miles. When I left home, my car said it had about 80 mile range remaining with the gas I had in the tank. I figured I should stop to get gas. I never did and my range went up as I was driving and I ended up at my destination 90 miles later with an estimated remaining 70 miles. I don’t normally drive on the highway, but if I do, it’s easily 35+ MPG.

→ More replies (15)

71

u/JonLongsonLongJonson 8h ago

I have a 21 gallon tank but I also get about 14-15 mpg so I get like 300 miles per tank :/

28

u/Useful-Artichoke-954 7h ago

I have the same size tank but I can get 550mi/tank, pure highway, CT to Chicago… 2 fill-up’s, with a little to spare.

8

u/depraveycrockett 6h ago

Craziest range I have ever witnessed was my buddy’s diesel Chevy Colorado. Over 700mi/tank on a road trip from TX to CA. Not sure the tank size.

Yeah sorry the ultimate road trip vehicle is a 2000s 1.9TDI Passat, its perfect happy going 160 (100mph) all day and uses about 5-5.5l/100km so you can get 1000-1200km (600-750 miles) from a single tank.

If you have restraint and only go 130 all day, you can get it as low as 4.5l/100km and almost 1400km of range.

15

u/PercentageNo3293 4h ago

I feel like the Honda Fit was close from being a great road trip car.

That 1.5L engine starts "guzzling" gas beyond 60mph.

7

u/theoneandonlygene 3h ago

My 2009 fit felt too shaky over 60 - like the wind resistance was going to blow it off the road

3

u/PercentageNo3293 3h ago

I've have a couple cars like that. Surprisingly, didn't have that issue with mine.

I have a 2017. It's well insulated, compared to my old car, so I've caught myself driving like 80mph when I thought I was going 70mph. I just noticed my "MPG gauge" floating somewhere in the low-20s MPG at those speeds, verses like 40 MPG at 60MPH.

I wish I had an extra gear, but I'm not sure that 1.5L engine could produce enough power to make it worthwhile lol.

I really wish that VW didn’t fuck up with Dieselgate in the US. A diesel hybrid would be insane for MPG’s. I also had a Passat but the 2.0 variant. I was regularly seeing 900 miles to a tank, adding a hybrid to that would be incredible.

Had a moment like this once. I inherited my grandparents Cat Eye Silverado, after my paps cancer and my gram breaking her left hip keft her unable to use the clutch. Came from a Buick car before this. So, as always I put the pump in and went into the store. Came back out, pump shut off at a similar number. Turns out their truxk had the tow package, a 34 gallon tank.

10

While I didn’t make fun of them (and not MAGA), the Prius was goofy looking for a while. The new models are pretty nice looking.

They’ve been psy-op trained to consume as much oil as possible. EVs and hybrids bad, gas-powered trucks good. I remember when then Prius was first released the backlash 9n right wing media against it. By the time the first Tesla launched, Fox was railing against it all the time.

Oil is not just a commodity but is important for national security. Conserving what we have should certainly be a priority. Even from the aspect of plain old personal virtue, why would it bother one person if another conserves that which he himself wastes? If nothing elise, it keeps a commodity of limited supply at a lower cost to all. The mantra to “hurry up and waste it” by the current US administration is vexing from every angle but that of oil company profits.

I’ve been driving an EV for 4 years now.

Anyway, I brought my EV in for scheduled maintenance, and they gave me a gas loaner (an Audi A6) for the weekend. When I went to fill up the loaner before returning it, just 10% of the tank cost me $18. Meanwhile, I spend about $30/month charging my EV.

Needless to say, I’m never going back to gas.

20

u/rjnd2828 3h ago

I can't imagine going back to a gas car for so many reasons

17

u/Electrik_Truk 2h ago

Yep. I've driven EVs for 7 years now and with as much as I drive, I've saved literally $30,000 in fuel cost. Crazy.

u/Sweet_Bypass69 51m ago

EVs are just vastly cheaper. These guys out here paying $172x26=$4,472.00 a year in just gas assuming every two weeks. I pay $30/mo so $360/year. Never going back

once you drive an EV, gas cars feels so clunky

9

u/ACoderGirl 1h ago

One of my coworkers has an EV and he's driven us to a few things. Every time, it feels so smooth. He's also shown off the insane amount of torque those things have when you accelerate. So they're silky smooth and insanely powerful when you need them.

I want my next car to be an EV. They seem a better fit for the lower amounts of driving that I do, need less maintenance, and while adoption isn't quite where I thought they'd be, they still seem to be the future of cars. Once BYD finally starts selling here in Canada, I have my eyes on them. Mostly I'm intending to drive my Prius into the ground first, as it works perfectly fine so far.

u/JCarnageSimRacing 56m ago

It’s not just the torque.  It’s the lack of hesitation when you press the accelerator, the lack of shift klunks, etc.  it’s a totally different experience.   My C8 under hard acceleration is how pretty much every EV feels

The truck my dad had in the late 90s, a Dodge Ram, I think had two 20 gallon tanks. He never let it go more than halfway empty because it cost so much to fill the thing all the way up.

My car only holds 13 gallons and its cost a shocking amount a couple times recently. I can't imagine what his newer, bigger truck costs to fill from E.

31

u/Maleficent_Sky7991 11h ago

I do that too so it feels cheaper even though it’s not haha

25

u/trainurdoggos 11h ago

Theoretically it costs more because you are having to make more stops at gas stations.

But they can't give up the truck, even though they have no practical reason to own or drive one. It's only purpose is to make them feel manly.

According to my calculations that is $5.39USD per gallon (or $1.426USD a liter)

Where I am Fuel is sitting at about $2.60AUD per liter or $1.86USD a liter.

That means for the same amount of fuel in Australia that would be $224.41USD or $313.69AUD for that amount of fuel.

Remember, it could be worse (and this is all thanks to that Orange twat y'all voted in)

74

That's rookie numbers compared to Europe.

In France we're currently at 2.10€/L for petrol and 2.25 for diesel.

You’re paying about $5.40 per gallon. At roughly $2 per litre here in Romania, that’s $7.57 per US gallon, about 40% more. That same fill-up would cost around $241 here instead of $172.

And honestly, I can’t get over how many people worshipped Trump and convinced themselves a spoiled billionaire gave a fuck about ordinary people struggling to pay their bills. He’s that rich, entitled douchebag from school who always got whatever he wanted. We all know the type. Somehow, people looked at that and thought, “Yeah, let’s give him an entire country to play with.” The people who cheered him into office need to own that choice.

How does America go from Obama to this fucking joke? It’s an unbelievable downgrade. Hopefully, next time voters wake up and choose someone who actually puts ordinary people first. New Yorkers choosing Mamdani was a step in the right direction, in my opinion. America deserves better than being some billionaire’s personal toy.

Billionaires support billionaires. The man spoke in simple sentences and promised the world to a large group of people.

This should be a stark reminder for EVERYONE how easily a nation and a people can slip into a cult like state.

If he maintains control after the midterms, believe it or not, things will becoming more unprecedented.

At least you’re not paying $9+ a gallon (Shell in San Diego). Diesel is more than $10 but the display only goes to $9.99.

The best part is that all the reasons for the price increase can be traced to the same inept idiots making horrible decision after horrible decision.

Hahahahha, you guys have no idea what's coming 🤣.

Middle east just hit 0% capacity and oil reserve is at minimum.

You guys? As if the USA will allow itself to suffer alone. We all in this boat together. Unless you live in a fishing village at top of the world, self sustaining fishing the baltic in your sailboat, milking the occasional narwhal, to which I ask, who got you guys internet?

Still can't figure out why 77.3 million decided this shit is what they wanted.

I mean record breaking energy bills, a new forever war, a massive oncoming financial meltdown, multiple trade wars, a depleted military, and an AI surveillance state.....

Can any trumpists explain it to me? Maybe I'm just gonna need a diagram with crayons to see how this shit is all awesome and I should be thankful for it.

if trump tossed a grenade into a small room with three maga idiots and three democrats, the three maga idiots would be thrilled because the democrats are getting blown up too. that's basically the sick psychology that drives his supporters, that and trump gave them permission to be racist and hateful out in the open.

I paid $164 for 21 gallons in California. Would have been more if I didn't have a 76 card and app.

Dang! I just filled up my F150 for $8.00 worth of electrons. Best truck I’ve ever owned even before gas spiked.

3

u/MeetingRecent229 2h ago

How long will that last? Like how many times a month do you fill up?

5

u/rennatav 2h ago

Are we great yet?

u/RelativeThese2634 12h ago

Is this a work truck or just a pavement princess? If it’s the later I have 0 sympathy for you. Why buy a truck if you’re not using it.

you need that truck though! who else is going to take up all the parking spaces and use up all the gas?
but you probably voted for this anyway, so you should be proud

7

u/INeedAUserName89 1h ago

Most people in my area use trucks for groceries in the back seat not even in the bed. Maybe they helped move something ONCE. But man do they love the space and feeling like they're moving around in a living room.

Though many people where I work (home depot) genuinely get a huge use from their trucks. Interesting to see which one is OP

What's infuriating is the person bitching about having to take care of the thing they purchased. If you can afford more than $20 at a time in fuel, you are doing better than a lot of people.

6

u/schakoska 5h ago

3

u/EndTheFed25 11h ago

I just got an RV with an 80 gallon tank. I went to fill it unknowing the size and ran in the station to use the bathroom. The pump stopped at $200 and I only had 3/4 tank.

3

u/Jackman1337 7h ago

Damn is Gas cheap in the US. In Europe we would have paid around $300 for that amount of gas.

3

u/Mundus6 7h ago

I just got an EV and you get employee discount on charging at work. So i pay about $20 months for charging that car. Here in Sweden thats like 2 gallons of gas.

3

u/EcvdSama 7h ago

Cheer up! That in Italy would have costed you 350$

3

u/ShrimpStuffAdmin 6h ago

Bargain. It would cost well over 300usd in the uk.

3

u/hvacigar 4h ago

Hold on, it is going much higher in the coming weeks.

3

u/Beneficial-Context52 3h ago
