All these animal experts about how thirsty the dog is.

That dog is healthy and is clearly loved by his family. I'm pretty sure he gets as much water as he wants.

Have you never seen those videos of people training their dogs with a stick and not treats? Yeah I’d learn fast to if I was getting hit.

Not saying that’s what’s happening here but that knowledge has given me skepticism of animals doing tricks

If you’re not saying that’s what’s happening here, what’s your point? Dogs love learning tasks and doing tricks and stuff, training them is required to give them a fulfilled life.

I know dude and I’m saying it’s sad that a couple of messed up videos have ruined an entire genre of cute video for you.

And it’s very ‘redditor’ behavior to look at a perfectly mundane video and go make a comment about how it actually might be terrible with no real info. Just pessimistic in general.

Oh I’m not making the assumption that this specific dog has been abused to do the trick, I was just pointing out my skepticism and my lack of ability to enjoy trick videos at face value because of the previous videos I’ve seen

I feel like you’re saying “I don’t think this dog is abused” and “I think the dog might be abused” at the same time.

And to be specific, I think the other issue is coming to leave a comment about it in blind skepticism to make sure others know this can’t just be simply enjoyed.

I mean it is a public form, it’s not explicitly for wholesome feel good content, im also not stating people can’t or shouldn’t enjoy it, just pointing out a very real reality even if you don’t want to believe it.

It sucks but that is life, you can’t just avoid the negative and blindly focus on positives all the time and vice versa, sometimes you need to be optimistic and other times pessimistic, it seems you and I are on opposites for this post

You are aware there is more than one way to view the world? I can believe in bad people while still seeing the good in prople first. You assume I pretend nothing bad could ever happen to a dog why? He's not doing tricks, he's doing his job.

If you knew ANYTHING about dogs, you'd know how important it is to train them and give them a "job" or sense of purpose like this. This maintains the dogs mental and physical health, and teaches the dog to behave in high stress or overwhelming settings.

Have you ever had a dog? Especially a working breed like the lab or lab mix shown here? They loooove to have a job, need it really, and actually thrive when they do and suffer when they don't. Work is play for them, and they don't just want it they need it to be mentally healthy.

Alright here's a little trick, works for most animals. Look at the fur, skin, feathers or whatever it has. Does it look good, shiny, etc? Then it's probably well taken care of. Not fool proof, but in most cases a very telling sign of general health and wellbeing.

Yeah I agree, dogs can be trained with treats too, that doesn’t mean there aren’t dogs out there being beaten to perform in videos.

If that’s an uncomfortable reality for you then that’s your problem.
