I mean, if you think about it, horses are the original self driving cars.

Actually dogs pulled carts all around the world. Your all around farm dogs hauled food/goods into villages to sell and trade. Your average subsistence farmer around the world could never afford large livestock. Newfies used to pull carts to bring fish to markets, German Shepards pulled vegetables/goods into markets.

I’ve heard, for their size/weight, that dogs are better draught animals than horses.

That’s interesting, I just thought it was more utilizing the animal they had for multi purposes. But what you said makes perfect sense.

But now that’s probably going to send me down a rabbit hole reading about cart dog lol.
