True but seeing the mouse pointer move (which usually only happens on screens that don't need high refresh rates like productivity and messaging apps) is the easiest way to tell refresh rate differences.
That sounds more like a compression issue, either in the file itself, the video link between the computer and the monitor, or the monitor's controller itself.
I love watching movies on my 120hz tv and 240hz monitor because they can both display 24fps content without distracting pulldown judder, which a 60hz display can't. There's a reason all but the most basic budget TVs are 120hz nowadays, and it's because it's the LCM of all standard NTSC content framerates (24, 30, 60).
I think you can also set your 144/165hz monitor to 120hz to achieve the same effect, for those who don't have a native 120/240hz monitor.
You'll likely need to use CRU to add a 120hz profile to windows since most 144/165hz monitors don't have a 120hz profile available in windows by default.
Why do I need a 4k 180+ ghz(lol) hz refresh rate monitor for something I'm only putting notes, guides, and background noise on? The 1080p office monitor that pivots and adjusts to whatever weird angle I put it at is fine.

The little monitor in the bottom right cornor can be turned into a second screen and another one inside the pc rn the screen is set to temps and usage for the pc
now that i remember, i used a lg tv oled 48" 120hz (inspired by linus) for a while, was like having 4 monitors tbh, but i usually only had browser, discord and a game open, all at the same screen
That's what I do. Main monitor in landscape and two side monitors on either side of it in portrait. Discord and video on the right (discord top half, YouTube bottom half) OBS and whatever else on left.
I never understood the portrait rotated 16:9 monitor. Whenever I did that for text, I'd just end up looking at the very top line and scrolling anyway, instead of tilting my head up and down to read the whole page. I'd rather have more text I can read horizontally than multiple lines of vertical text. I think it only really makes sense for coders but has been co-opted by gamers who thought it made them advanced users or something.

Both my kids. One 1080 monitor for obs or whatever, and one wide screen 1440 for actual gaming. I have 2 identical 1080 monitors because my OCD will not allow the difference 🤣😂
I have 3 of the same monitor. I bought them for playing racing games, was gonna make a racing sim rig, but never got around to it. Being I work from home, the monitors are being used there for multiple screens instead more so atm.
One 20 year old monitor that still works well despite being lugged to and from college, and between apartments, and one 3 year old monitor that's the same brand
Me. Why spend more money for a monitor that you only use for secondary function? As long as the panel is same then it's fine because different panel type will look weird
Yea I got a Samsung G8 oled ultrawide as my main and to the side is a really old square aspect ratio 20" monitor I took from my school when they were throwing stuff out.
I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. Two identical meh monitors.
The reason is that I change the brightness several times during the day (from the OS) and with two identical monitors I don't have to fiddle around each time.
I bought two identical G7 monitors to replace my mismatched pair. Didn't like the way they looked together, but kept one and my "good" older ASUS monitor became my secondary. Ended up dropping the other G7 to my wife to use as their primary monitor.
I think I just prefer having a native 1080 monitor as my secondary.
I had a 27 inch 1080p monitor I had as a main one and then I found a nice deal on a Dell G3223D 31.5 inch 1440p monitor I use as a main one and kept the old one at the side for discord or videos.
I might downgrade my ultrawide + 16:9 setup to 2x 16:9 due to space constraints here at my place.
Heck, before I moved here I could have an ultrawide (35 inch) + 2x 16:9 displays (27 inch), but because my desk is now smaller, that no longer fits. I do still have that other 16:9 monitor though so I can easily swap it. 3 displays was already overkill, haha.
1 expensive one, then buy second monitor, ultra wide, great for cad work aswell, lack of symmetry gets annoying, buy decent third one to balance it all up.
I’ve got a 1440p 240hz OLED monitor as my main and my secondary is a shitty 1080p 60hz dell monitor. I wanna upgrade it at some point to a 1440p or 4k so that I can do work a little easier
My new setup is going from my 34" UW + 27" 4K monitor to the 34" UW + a 15" "tablet" that I can touch scroll through Spotify. I think it'll be much cleaner looking and user friendly.
I used to have one good, one cheap, but now I got twice the same 1440p IPS 200Hz model, because I can’t deal with OLED flicker and the chromatic abberation while writing, I work more than I game. They were 230€ each and I like how they line up and how clean it looks. I’m happy with a HQ IPS.
When you use different monitors it usually defaults to capabilities of the least monitor for both monitors. For example if you have a monitor that is 60hz and one that is 240hz both will display at 60hz. Usually, since I can't know all set ups.
Wife got me a curved wide screen for Christmas and it’s been a blessing and a struggle. My zephyrus g15 is actually a bit too much machine for its own sake, but getting it to play nice with the monitor has not been easy.
Newer games give this wierd lag every second or so where it feels like my monitor cant quite keep up with my graphics card. Makes me sad. :(
I have two of the same but they’re from when I first built in 2018. One will become the cheap monitor eventually mostly for comms and research as a second screen when I replace one of them with a 4K display. It’s a lower priority tho still atm
I refuse to use two monitors that aren't the same models lol. Even at the expense of productivity. I just upgraded to UWQHD, but couldn't buy 2 at the same time due to budget. So it's just that single display when I had three 16:9s before lol.
I do alot of pinning and use workspaces now.
My wife, who doesn't have this hang up, gladly took my old ones and has a hodge podge set up haha.
Yep. Got a Gigabyte GS27QA as my main, and my undying Asus VX239H of almost or more than a decade old. It survived having ants inside. Both on a dual monitor arm with the Asus on an adapter for non-VESA monitors. The Gigabyte one isn't my first 27" high refresh rate monitor. I used to have a Legion y27 something but the panel on that started showing weird artifacts which was due to overheating maybe. I liked the built in USB hub in that one though. Wish the gigabyte had one.
i have 2 monitors, 1 on top of the other. the first is an alienware 3423DW ultrawide QD-OLED on top and the main is an alienware 3425DW ultrawide QD-OLED. so different monitors. but only because they have different models for different model years. only real difference between the 2 is the 3425 is 240hz. that’s cool i guess
This just reminded me that I have three monitors and I'm only using the two oldest ones while the newest one sits in my closet because it doesn't fit on my desk.
On the plus side, that means I always have a spare ready.
Why would I need two of the same monitor? One is an IPS panel for gaming, high contrast, good colours, low latency.
The other one is a TN panel with the same resolution so Windows doesn't fuck up the alignments completely but it's smaller, 60Hz, more energy efficient and in its darkest setting.
I used to have 3, all different. The middle was a curved 27" 120hz monitor for gaming on, the right was a 27" flat 75hz for some websites and watching video on whilst doing other stuff, and the left one was an old 24" 60hz in landscape for some other websites that I liked to have open, usually news based ones and sites that for some reason used to have a small centred layout and didn't scale to the screen res, so trying to view them on a 1440p screen was just awful and increasing size to 130% just made the text too big and looked stupid.
Now, I just one 32" HDR, but it's large enough that I can run two browser windows side by side.
