He was charged with both. Acquitted on the shooting, convicted for discharging. Judge sentenced him to time served (about 8 months) and he got out same say as sentence:

I said it on the fucking McDonalds "prankster" video, I'll say it again- If you do pranks that involve illegal activity like assault (even phony ones like this) or trespassing, your punishment should be a complete shutdown of online activity, with prison sentences for those who break the conviction agreement. It's not hard to track the breach of conviction there.

Yeah, ha ha, remember when hacking was a federal crime in the US and convicted hackers weren't allowed to own or use computers for like 10 years or something? People wouldn't be able to function in society now. They couldn't even apply for a job, but in a way I think we do need to go back to that. I think it was because he carried his weapon onto property that was posted as "gun free". The mall is private property, the owner has the right to say weapons aren't allowed, so technically he broke that law.

Its one of those things that many legal CCW holders do and no ones the wiser unless you have to use it. And if you have to use it, its worth eating the lesser charge to protect yourself and/or family.

Yeah, its kinda fucked up, but thats how the law works sometimes unfortunately.

It doesn't stop at private property. States that allow open and or closed carry everywhere still carve exceptions so you can't carry in certain public buildings, State colleges are fine. Those public buildings you can't carry in are the state capital buildings where the lawmakers have offices and passed the law saying you can carry a gun anywhere, except near my office.

He should've been able to fight that out on bail. The bail system is broken in the USA. If someone has no money, they should have the same rights as a homeowner or a billionaire, who almost certainly fight their cases out on bail. And cases fought from outside jail have a much higher chance of being successful.

I have PTSD. I have unintentionally punched or kicked two friends who tried to jump scare me. At this point I just bring it up casually with friends that I don’t do well with being scared. Funny enough this does also mean that I can relax when I know there isn’t any actual danger, so I love haunted houses for that reason. It’s such a refreshing change to actually getting jumped and beaten up.

A taser requires a good spread between the darts and a good connection in order to have any significant effect. If you miss, which is fairly likely, you only have 1-2 shots with most taser models. Those aren't odds I would like to have in an actual self defense situation. And that isn't even mentioning how someone with a gun will likely still be able to shoot you regardless of being tased, unless you're causing NMI in both arms which is very unlikely. Or even how someone with a knife is still going to stab you if they're already close to you when you tase them, which is almost guaranteed since you're reacting to their initial attack.

I would never recommend a taser for personal self defense. There's a reason law enforcement is generally only supposed to use one when their friend is already pointing a gun at the person they plan to tase.

yep mine is not that cool. it is one of those jabby stabby shockers. it has an insane alarm button that I've only ever accidentally pressed in the grocery store and scared the sht out of everybody around me. i feel like it is mostly for scaring bad guys away. before I got any defenove weaponry, just threatening somebody with mace saved me from getting stabbed. i have mace as well but that loud taser is jarring for anybody tweaking hard and scared of the police.

I worked at a sporting good store that sold guns, but I don’t have one. A customer asked for help with a holster and I told him that I was not knowledgeable. He said “you must know kung fu or something.” I said no, and he asked how I defended myself. I told him I try not to do things that will get me attacked by strangers. He was still confused.

Always assume the other person is armed and make any decisions on action based on that assumption. I'll be 62 in a few weeks. Partially disabled. Walk with a cane and can't scratch my ankles to save my own life. My parameters have moved. I'm a little on the skinny side and 5' 10." If any bully within 40-50 lbs (and 6" taller than me or less) pushes me into a one-on-one, I'll still throw down without a weapon. On the other hand, if someone sucker punches me, or they want to try me with more than one guy on their side? They'll immediately find out what I'm carrying. I'll take a little ass-whooping if it's only one guy. I'll get some licks in too. But the shit I would wade into grinning in my youth I wouldn't even try nowadays. I'll walk off even with some really inappropriate shit being said, if it's only being said to me. Say it to my girl? That's a different story. But weapons should be for situations that are worse than one-on-one, women being attacked, or for really defenseless guys. Or if you're solely responsible for transporting family away from whatever situation or location you're in.

I used to go through the most druggie/homeless area of my city every week. now once a month. but I rode my ebike before it got fucked, and I had to park it down there for 10 minutes at a time. so I bought and carried a knife after a couple visits, thinking I scare off anyone who tries to steal shit or whatever. I was walking to work downtown one morning, and a rough looking dude just abruptly crossed the street without looking. A red car had to slam his brakes, so of course he laid on his horn. I ended up walking behind the drunk/high/whatever dude some distance back.

In a wild coincidence, red car then pulled over right in front of the dude to let his buddy out. I see the dude immediately pull a little knife out of his pocket, snap it open, a hide it behind his back.

I really thought I was going to see someone get stabbed on my morning commute. Luckily I think the guy was just worried he was getting jumped, and when the red car friend walked off, he out it away. But I'll never forget how there was no hesitation, he had that knife ready.

I remembered I got my mall security on me for my leatherman multi-tool that was clipped to my belt.

They walked me out of the store while I was shopping. It was either I go out and leave my leatherman in my car or they confiscate it.

Their security was telling me that the blade can be a weapon. But I been in that mall atleast 1-2x a month for years, and never got issues bringing my multi-tool.

Idk about that.  The puncher was assaulted from behind. Then, proceeded to fight until he was notified that the assailant was no longer a threat.

Unless youre a trained fighter... its reasonable to believe that you are still under threat even if your assailant is on the ground.

I'm also of the opinion that sucker punches to the back of the head is attempted murder, so someone positioning to attempt to kill you should be met with force meant to completely subdue the attacker.

F'n true. A friend of a friend of mine when I was young was a freckled redhead who wasn't very big and I always thought he seemed not too formidable. This day I was at the far end of the bar and he was at the other end right by the door and I heard a little commotion down there and heard him say "Do you want to go outside and talk about it?" to some guy who was giving him a hard time and obviously didn't think he was formidable either. He went out the door followed by the guy and I swear the door had just closed, less than 5 seconds, and he walked back in alone didn't even say a word about it. It was really impressive. Raise a glass to Pete.

There was a guy that used to make videos in grocery parking lots where he would put carts in the way of people's cars if they put the cart anywhere but in the cart return. Like a form of public shaming. To make them get out and move the cart again.

Except in the US obstructing a cars ability to escape a scenario and moving towards the vehicle counts as a lethal threat.

Eventually he found someone that knew this.

He stopped uploading after a guy put a gun in his face and said he had 2 seconds to move his shit or die.

The other day someone pulled up to the gas station I was walking out of, it was about 9pm and it had gotten dark. The lights on his car were turned off so in passing I just casually said “Hey bro don’t forget to turn your lights on when you get back” and he stopped in his tracks, turned to me, then said “Why don’t you mind your own goddamn business n*gga” and I looked at my friend who was with me (I’m white hes black) and we just stared at each other for a second. We are both from Dallas originally and this was in Colorado.

I was one of those dip shit 20 somethings who was too big and didn't know to keep his hands to himself. I would grab friends from behind, man handle them, etc. Anyway, this is how I learned my lesson.

I was at a party, actually I may have been throwing the party, anyway I see one of my friends dancing with some lady and I come up behind him and grabbed his shoulders and he punches me right in the face. I saw a look of absolute shock when he looked up at me, (I'm 6'4" and had a reputation for getting into fights), and I realized in that moment that I was completely in the wrong and that this guy did exactly what I would have done, and I told him, "dude, that's entirely on me. I'm going to go for a walk" and we man-hugged and I left and talked myself into being more gentle with people.
