Pretty sure these two are both professional dancers as well as a married couple.

KP and Bryn aren't married yet, and weren't when the video was recorded, but they are engaged now!

u/periodicallyBalzed 1h ago
I don’t know if they are married, but they are definitely fucking,
115
u/Street_Resident_4082 1h ago
Actually, in this community, it’s a very fun environment. They are actually married, but, Ken would’ve done that anyways lol.
Correction: engaged. For some reason I thought they were already married

u/notsooriginal 50m ago
KP has natural chemistry with most of his partners!

I used to dance salsa for six years.
There was indeed fucking. Dudes don't realise how you can go from conventionally attractive to 'hot' by just being an average dancer.
But what I really believe is that girls get to examine you up close for prolonged periods during dance classes and nights out and can then easier decide if you're a safe person or someone to avoid. And if you smell good

No. While dance can be a great way to find someone, it does not automatically mean people are fucking. I do this exact dance, and every night I go out and dance with a ton of people, young, old, men, women, and I'm married...
Granted to a dancer, but not all of those people.
Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollmann are retired from routine competition, but dominated the circuit for over a decade. Not a couple.
Benji Schwimmer and Heidi Groskreutz, Kellese Key, Torri Smith, and Nicole Ramirez - dominated the competition circuit and he was not a couple with any of them (he's gay).
Brandi Tobias and Ronnie DeBennedetta - champion level couple back in the day, not a couple.
PJ Turner and Tashina Beckmann (another viral WCS dance video pairing) - not a couple. Nor is PJ and his current partner Mia Pastor. There are plenty of couples who are actual couples, including the subject here. But it is not what Redditors who've never touched a member of the opposite sex think.

She seems to be in a completely different league from him technically. He clearly knows how to dance, but her movements are much quicker, sharper, and more precisely defined. She also looks more athletic and controlled. That said, they have great chemistry together, which makes the difference in skill level matter a lot less.

u/sputtertots 50m ago
There is a company (as in group) they play with called West Coast Swing, its on the tube. Its sorta typical in this genre that the woman have slightly more look at me moves and the men will feed off that or set them up for that and sometimes do their own little signature move. Its really about cooperation tbh.
I love watching the Jack and Jill competitions, its fun when they draw their partners which they may have never danced with before but probably know their signature moves and feed off that. Its a lot of fun, hubs and I used to west coast swing when we were younger.
Those two know each other really well tho.

I am currently taking dance lessons for my wedding and we are learning club swing. One of our instructors has shoes with suede bottoms for this purpose.

Yes swing dance shoes have suede on the bottom. Used to do east coast swing for nearly a decade.

Also, fun thing for people who aren’t familiar with Swing Dance, this is almost certainly unrehearsed. They each have a deep library of moves, and are putting them together on the fly by paying close attention to each other. It’s what distinguishes a lead dance like Swing from a pattern based dance like Ballroom.
Swing is done in sets of 6 or 8 counts. At the start of each set he’ll give her a bit of momentum and direction to tell her roughly where she’s supposed to end up, and then the rest of the counts are open for her to improvise within. Then at the end of the set they meet back where they’re expecting each other based on that initial lead. Since you always know exactly where the other person is going to be 5-7 steps in the future you can put together some wild stuff and make it look planned, particularly if you’re this good at paying attention to your partner
Which isn’t to say people never choreograph swing dances ahead of time, but in this case you can see that she’s just a blink behind him as she’s responding to his lead

u/tongfather 6m ago
You're absolutely correct about swing dancing but wrong at the same time. This is rehearsed. Those aren't regular swing moves.

What type of dance lessons do you recommend for an absolute beginner? Hip hop, jazz, swing etc. I’m extreeemely uncoordinated and awkward when dancing, but would love to improve just so that I don’t feel so awkward when I go out dancing with friends!

For those who aren't familiar with this dance, it's called West Coast Swing as it originated in California. When competing at an event like this one all of this is improvised on the spot with a random partner.
The couple here is KP Rutland and Bryn Anderson, two well-established champion level dancers (the highest level in competition). They've done more serious dances before but often times improvised dances get a little goofy. As someone who's been doing this for a few years now, it's a ton of fun!
→ More replies (1)39
u/KH10304 1h ago
Wow I would’ve definitely assumed that was choreographed
35
u/Casul_Tryhard 1h ago
There are a shit ton of tiny cues they give each other. It may also look like he's leading her around but she's actually subtly influencing what he should and shouldn't do. It's a big learning curve for beginners haha
17
u/QuotidianPain 1h ago
The majority of the dance is socially led (not choreographed). The move at the end is just a goofy move they both know that they decided to do at the end. It wasn’t led, but just them having fun.
4
u/dakoellis 43m ago
Really? As someone with absolutely no dance training it seemed obviously improvised. I feel like choeographed dance has a ton more simultaneous moves, whereas this seems to be a lot of back and forth

I believe it's swing dancing. I'm also hoping that it's improvised swing dancing. In some swing dance competitions they have improvised dancing with random partners, meaning that these two wouldn't have planned out any of this beforehand.

It’s west coast swing. Their whole dance is improvised. This couple is actually engaged, so they aren’t random partners.

It's called West Coast Swing, and this was from a competition where the couples didn't know what song they were going to get. It's all improv and the hand slap is a running gag for KP.
